Teen Story Chester the Benevolent Dictator by The Storyteller Book Once upon a time there was an evil dragon that resided in the library. He was known as Chester the Ma-levolent Dictator. He would kidnap and eat a Maiden Book every single month. The poor books of the Teen Shelves of Library Land were devastated, as every month they would lose one of their beautiful daughters. So the King Book sent out all of his finest knights to battle this dragon. They would sneak up to his cave behind the purple, green, and yellow mountains, and find him perched on top! He would destroy every knight that ever approached. Chester the Malevolent Dictator was a very sad dragon, really, and he felt that no one understood him. He was also very angry at his Mommy and Daddy dragons, which had named him Chester. They had ruined his aspiring dreams to become a terrible, rampaging dragon, simply by naming him something as silly as Chester. But poor Chester had been deceived for all of this life! It wasn't really the Mommy or Daddy dragon that had named him; it was real people who visited Library Land!

Upon realizing that his whole life had been a lie, Chester slunk into his cave and stayed there for many, many months, thinking. The Knight Books who approached his cave found the roof dragonless and left, as Knight Books can be rather stupid. The King Book was rather upset about this and shook the walls of the Teen Shelves, causing all of the poor citizens of Library Land to fall on to the floor, and the poor shelvers were forced to spend their time putting back to-gether the whole library. Not once did they realize that Chester was missing. After much contemplation, Chester mysteriously reap-peared, and his fiery, red eyes were sparkly and shiny, and he announced to all of Library Land that he was no longer Ches-ter the Malevolent Dictator, and that he was now Chester the Benevolent Dictator. The King Book was so shocked that he fell out of his Shelf Throne! Some hapless, meander-ing, library-goer wandered by and saw the King Book lying sadly on the floor, and they picked him up and took him home, where they promptly lost him! The poor Library Land was kingless, and were forced to submit to Chester's rule, and they all lived bookily ever after. (Chester had, by now, forgotten entirely about the Maiden Books, being Benevolent and all.)

Teen Advisory Board Are you interested in volunteering at the library? You can take care of some of your community service hours by joining the Teen Advisory Board (TAB). What is TAB? TAB members are teens in grades 6-12 who volunteer two hours a month to help us make the library a teen-friendly place. They share their opinions and ideas about library-sponsored teen events at TAB meetings and help to create this newsletter. TAB meets every 1st and 3rd Monday from 4 to 5 p.m. in the first floor meeting room of the library. If you’d like to join TAB, stop by the Teen Zone Desk to fill out an application. Questions? Knitting Rocks! Ever wanted to learn how to knit? Drop by the Teen Zone and hang with other teen knitters. All levels of knitters are welcome. If you don’t

have supplies, we’ve some to lend you. 1st Saturdays, 10 - noon. (3/3, 4/7 & 5/5)

Anime Showings Looking for something cool to do? Grab some friends and watch Anime on the library’s big screen. Anime showings are on the 1st Tuesday of each month. Registration is required. 1st Tuesdays, 6-8 p.m. (3/6, 4/3 & 5/1)

Dance Get your groove on! In the first part of this

program, you’ll learn basic steps and contemporary dance moves. Instructor Hugo Sayle will show you how to move it and shake it.

In the second part of this program, you’ll see the elegant side of dance. Learn classic partner dances like the waltz, tango, salsa, and swing. Fabulous!

Kite Making & Flying Go fly a kite! You’ll be able to after creating one here

at the library, then heading outside to test it in the wide open spaces. Kite making instruction will be provided.

Manga Art Contest Results

Throughout November and December, you may have seen signs for the Manga Art Contest open to all teens. The entries are in, and the winners have been chosen. Who were the judges? Teens! All entries were on display in the Teen Zone, and ballots were available to everyone in grades 6 through 12. The voting ended on February 5, and these were the choices. That’s right, during Teen Tech Week, the Teen Zone will install three listening stations. One station will contain audio versions of popular teen novels, and the other two will have music. Teen Stories The First Comprehension By Trevor Hoyt

Prologue It was bone chilling. The sky was ominous during midnight in the city of Kwaad, a grey and gloomy place of sor-cery. A raspy voice with a tall, thin body raised his arms, as if to hug Hades, and cried out, “Twelve past and four gems awaken! Twelve past and four gems awaken!” Across the lush forest, all time was halted.

Chapter 1– Time Revels In the forest village of Fleiss, 15-year-old Emyrys awoke. He felt a tingling sensation crawl through his entire body, as if he were going numb. Launching himself out from under his unique, turquoise patterned covers, he thought, “It’s quite windy for a night, especially since there’re mountains all around us. This has never happened before.”

As he jogged downstairs to look at the 12-hour can-dle, he noticed the flame was not flickering one bit. There was no sound, no sign of life anywhere in his family’s cottage. The candle seemed to have frozen in time. “That’s weird,” Emyrys said aloud. He turned back. Nobody was in his little cottage, and perhaps even in the whole town, he realized. He instinctively sprinted out his oak door. The town was silent. Strange. He suddenly scolded himself, “It’s midnight! None of the people are bound to be awake.” There was a faint echo in his head. The hoarse, pos-sessed voice chanted again, “Twelve past and four gems awaken; twelve past and four gems awaken…” The same voice as in my dream. Then the realization hit him. “Time has stopped!” Emyrys screamed.

Flaming Stone By Victoria Zheng

And so it begins, that the life on the new space, far away from the spinning vortexes, far away from the evil ones that con-trolled half of the earth and sun, and far away from the part deep inside that he is rarely aware of , and the part that sometimes controls him.

A busy, bustling activity stirs the boy named Acheolean Gerimo HabMeekerraa from his sleep. It rouses him. It is still dark, but he slowly walks to the door. For a moment, he is straining not to grab hold of the knob and turn. The noise faded. The busy, busting activity noise that always is around actually faded. His hand automatically went to the doorknob, and turned it. Then, he silently walked down the

stairs, across the hall and unlocked the door to the outside. The cool, night air filled his lungs as he jogged toward his neighbor’s house, dressed in his pajamas, and stuffed with a delight that he hadn’t had before, but another part of him did-n’t want it, it said it was evil.

Something glittered in the grass, a little light sparkling joyously, and he had a feeling he had to touch it. He did. It was warm from the light that surrounded it, and unusually bright. Then, it turned back into a worthless, dull rock, so he disposed of it and threw it at his neighbor’s house. The light suddenly flared up again, as it stuck next to a window, and the house burst into flames. He screamed. Suddenly, he was awake, back in his own bed sweating, and the very same neighbor’s house on fire.
