Sunday, March 19th 10:45am
First Communion for our fifth graders will
be celebrated on Sunday, March 19th at the
10:45am worship service.
The Seder Meal will take place on Saturday
evening, March 18h at 7:00pm. This is an opportunity for parents and students to
experience the Old Testament historic meal
at which Jesus shared the First Communion
with his disciples.
Those receiving First Communion are:
Sophie Anderson Julia Bradley
Hailey Greenleaf Mya Grunlund
Madison Jungles Elijah Reed
Matthew Richer Gino Shinderle
Wyatt Scott Garret Veale
Mya Watkins Nolan White
Adyson Weber
The Vanderbloemen Search Group pre-
sented a candidate to us on Tuesday, Feb-
ruary 21. We had an opportunity to watch
an “introduction” video the candidate re-
corded specifically for us along with a re-
cent sermon video. Our consultant, Tracey
Smith, reviewed his interview notes with us and fielded questions we had relative to
resume topics and discussion. We plan to
watch a few more sermon recordings and
reconvene to discuss our next steps.
We ask that everyone in our congregation
pray for the person God is Calling to be
our pastor, listens and acts on God’s guid-
ance. Also pray for a sense of peace and
patience as we wait for the candidate.
Accepting a Call to OSL is pure faith in
God’s will. Easy to say...hard to do. God
bless our church.
We received sad news yesterday that our
former custodian, Dana Johnson, passed
away from cancer while down in Florida.
Our sympathy and prayers go out to his
wife, Deb and son, Dan and wife, Leslie.
A memorial service will be held at Our
Saviour’s at a later date.
At the Crossroads
Many of those involved in the story of the
Passion of Christ came to a crossroads and
had to decide which way to go. Some chose
well, some did not, and the stories of each
of these experiences at various crossroads
helps us to know what to do and what not
to do when we encounter similar crossroads
in our own lives. In the end, each service in
the series reveals in some way how Christ
and his cross help us to decide which path is
in line with God’s will for us.
Ash Wednesday Confession • Psalm 32:1-5
As a model for us, the psalmist David
reaches the crossroads of confession and
confesses his sins to the Lord. We are called
to confess our sins to the Son of David and find forgiveness in him.
Week 1 - March 8th Betrayal • John 13:21-30
When Judas Iscariot comes to the point
where he must either listen to Jesus or listen
to the devil, he chooses to betray Jesus.
When we are tempted by Satan to betray
our Lord, we must gain strength from our
Savior to say, “No” to the devil.
Week 2 - March 16th Judgment • Matthew 27:11-26
When Pontius Pilate is called upon by the
crowds to make a judgment call about Je-
sus, his decision not to decide results in the
death of Christ. We look to the cross of
Christ to make definitive judgment calls in
our lives.
Week 3 - March 22nd Compassion • Luke 22:47-51
When Jesus is taken into custody, he
chooses to show compassion to a wounded
participant in the arrest. We are called to
show compassion, not anger, even to those
in our midst whom we might consider our
enemies.
Week 4 - March 29th Declaration • Luke 22:54-62
When Peter is asked to declare whether or
not he knows Jesus, he decides to deny his
Savior. When questioned about our Lord,
we are called to boldly declare our faith in
Christ.
Week 5 - April 5th Obedience • Matthew 26:36-46
When Jesus nears the time when he must
die for our sins, he asks his Father if the cup
might pass from him. But when the time
comes, he obeys his Father’s will. When we
are called upon to follow God’s will, we
must obey.
Tuesdays - 5:15pm Gathering Room

tions, inconsistencies, losses, or anguish over

Sunday School
In Sunday School we learned all about
Samuel. We learned we need to quiet our
hearts and listen to hear what God is saying
and that he uses everyone, children and
adults alike.
We also did a rotation on Pente-
cost. We discussed that Jesus
sent the Holy Spirit to live in our
hearts and give us strength to do
God’s work. Also that God wants
us to tell others about his love. To do this
the children made cards for the church’s
World Vision child, Asha. We also made commercials that we are going
to post on Facebook.
Last week we had our Family
Lenten Gathering. We learned
that Lent is the 40 days before
Easter and it’s a time to
strengthen our relationship with God and
to think about the sacrifice that Jesus made
for us. We then gathered as families to
spend time playing games, coloring and mak-
ing a Lenten box that will help each family
grow closer to him during the Lenten
season.
Next we will start our rotation
on Zacchaeus. The Sunday School
children will sing in church on
March 18th at the 10:45 service
and the 5th Graders will make
their First Communion that day. We will
not have Sunday school March 26th and April
2nd because of Spring Break.
Ms. Monica
ALL confirmation students are expected to
attend midweek services and turn in sermon
notes during Lent. Confirmation classes will
resume Wednesday, April 19th following
Easter.

God Club
February found us focusing first on Love.
We started with The Greatest Commandment
from Matthew 22:37-39
“…love the Lord your God with all your
heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind… love your
neighbor as yourself.”
We sang a beautiful Jesus Loves Me medley,
starting with the lyrics:
“You can build a wall or
you can build a bridge.
It all depends upon the love you give.
If you build a wall the world is small,
But the bridge of love will conquer all.
We wrote, recited, and crafted 1st John
3:18—“Little children, let us not love in
word or talk but in deed and truth.”
On the Wednesday before Valentine’s Day
we started with 1 Corinthians 13:13:
“And now these three remain:
faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love.
We read Jesus’ Feed My Sheep conversa-
tion with Peter and made some really cool
3D sheep.
In an effort to share God’s love this month,
we formed a Thrivent Action Team. We
wanted to do something special for the folks
coming to the Light at the Inn, so we put to-
gether two nice activity kits packed full of
puzzle books, inspirational reading, games
and art supplies to help them pass their
time. We also purchased 24 pair of stretch
gloves. We attached tags with Bible verses
and called them “Gloves for Love.” We gave
half to the LATI and half to the V.A.
Finally, we purchased 3 big grocery bags full
of kid’s favorite foods. We included stickers with Bible verses and handwritten notes and
then brought them to Our Saviour’s grocery
cart for First Lutheran’s Food Pantry. We
are most thankful to Thrivent for giving us
the opportunity to love our neighbors in this
way.
Finally, we took time
in February to say
“God Bless Amer-
ica!” We learned
about Presidents’ Day
and prayed for pro-
tection, guidance,
world leaders, ene-
mies and peace. We sang some patriotic
songs and learned about the red, white and
blue of the flag – along with the red, white
and blue of Jesus. We made God Bless Amer-
ica mobiles.
Don’t forget, God Club meets in Our Sav-
iour’s Creation Station right after school until
5:00pm every Wednesday. Here all students
from grades 2 through 5 are welcome to
gather together to learn about, practice and
celebrate God’s love. New students are
always welcome – so bring your friends too.

Each week the
Day1 radio broadcast,
hosted by Peter
Wallace, presents an
inspiring message
from an outstanding
preacher.
March 5th - Wilderness Time
In his sermon for the first Sunday in Lent,
Dr. Stephen Cook suggests that Jesus had
to die first before we could have the resur-
rection celebration. And if we’re going to
be serious about following Jesus, then we
had best be ready to go some places we
might not otherwise choose on our own.
March 12th - On Beyond
In his sermon for the 2nd Sunday in Lent,
Dr. Stephen Cook says God is forever call-
ing us--as God did Abraham and Sarah--to
keep going on beyond, beyond the truth we
think we know, the places we never
dreamed of being, the opportunities to min-
ister we never considered.
March 19th - It Was About Noon
In his sermon for the third Sunday in Lent,
Dr. Brian Coulter takes a look at the back-
story behind Jesus' encounter with the Sa-
maritan woman at the well, and finds an
abundance of water--foreshadowing the
living water Jesus promises us all.
March 26th - The Chosen One
As we see in the story of Samuel's anointing
of David as King of Israel, God's criteria for
God's servants may not line up with our
own--which, Scott Seeke tells us, means
God may even use us.

The 3/4 year old class are making a lot of
progress with the new skills we've been
practicing. They are becoming more inde-
pendent using scissors and some are able
to write their names. We've been working
on letter recognition and learning letter
sounds through movement and repetition.
Many students are able to identify num-
bers 0-10 and can assign the correct value
to each.
In February we celebrated Valentine's Day
and took part in Dental Health Month by
learning about our teeth and how to keep
them healthy.
Our Bible stories taught about Jesus' love
for us through some of the miracles he
preformed. We learned how Jesus healed
the 10 men with leprosy (Luke 17:11-19)
and the Centurion's Servant (Luke 7:1-10).
The students learned that we can pray to
Jesus and ask him to heal us when we are
sick, worried or troubled too. And, like
one of the ten men with leprosy who Jesus
healed, it's important to thank Jesus for
the blessing he gives us as well.
Ms. Sarah
The 4/5 year old class is able to identify the
alphabet and know the letter sounds. We
have done this through a variety of songs
and small group activities. They practice
their names by signing in when they enter
the classroom and putting their names on
their projects.
We are focusing on identifying numbers 1-
20. We use numbers in our circle time. At
small group we use a variety of exercises to
practice writing numbers, counting, sorting
and estimating items.
We celebrated Valentine’s Day with a
party. Children wrote their friends names
on Valentines and put them in the appropri-
ate boxes for a small motor and sorting ex-
ercise.
Our Bible focus is on Zaccheus. We have
learned that Jesus will love us even when
we aren’t always worthy of his love. We
also discussed ways to make our families
and Jesus proud of our actions.

Faith…Takes A Licking And Keeps On Ticking!
2 Peter 1:1-9
(This is a Bible study for Lent, so take out your
Bibles and study. It will bless your Lenten
Journey.)
Years ago, Timex had a slogan about their
watches: “Timex…takes a licking and
keeps on ticking.” The idea was simply
that no matter what you did to a Timex
watch, it would keep working. If I remem-
ber correctly, they even had a commercial
that showed a barren wasteland after a
nuclear explosion. Lying on the ground
was a Timex watch…ticking away!
Faith is a lot like that…it takes a licking
and keeps on ticking! So many things try to
disrupt our faith. But, it seems that we as
the church, just keep ticking away. Oh, Sa-
tan and the world try our faith, but they
often push us right into the arms of God.
This is the catch: Even though our faith is
shaken at times, even though our faith is
disrupted…we understand that behind it
all…God is at work ... and our Faith
keeps on ticking!
Faith is more than just believing in some
facts. It is also the power to grow as fol-
lowers of Jesus. So how do we grow in
true faith? How do we become all that
God's wants us to be? Good questions for reflection as we step into the season of
Lent.
Saint Peter gives us some guidance: "In view
of all this, make every effort to respond to
God's promises. Supplement your faith with a
generous provision of moral excellence and
moral excellence with knowledge and knowl-
edge with self-control and self-control with
perseverance and perseverance with godli-
ness and godliness with brotherly kindness
and brotherly kindness with love for everyone.
The more you grow like this, the more produc-
tive and useful you will be in your knowledge of
our Lord Jesus Christ." (2 Peter 1:5-8)
1. Moral Excellence. Since you have a
relationship with God…be a person of
character. Character is the reality of who
you really are and what you really do. Perhaps this old quote is familiar to you:
“Your ideal is what you wish you were.
Your reputation is what people say you are.
Your character is what you really are.”
2. Knowledge. If you want to “keep on
ticking” for God…you must add knowledge
of God to your faith. Please don’t tell me
that you want to grow in God…love
God…serve God…and then not show up or avail yourself to every training opportu-
nity that you can possibly attend in our
church: including Worship, Bible Study,
Confirmation, BASIC Training, Sunday
School, School... After meeting you, are
people left with the sense that they have
just encountered a follower of Jesus Christ?
Grow in your knowledge of Jesus and his
ministry.
3. Self-control. Since you have faith…add
self-control. You might say, “Pastor
Stephen, I just can’t control myself.” Is the
word really "can't" or is it "won't"? In Christ
we can do all things. Paul wrote in Gala-
tians 5:22-23: “But the fruit of the Spirit
is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-
control; against such things there is no
law.” Next time you're tempted to lose
control…remember, that through God you
have the power to walk in self-control…it is
in you already. Access it and add it to your
faith.
4. Perseverance. Since you have faith…
persevere. It is our faith and our trust in
God that helps us to endure under trial.
Charlie Brown is at bat. STRIKE THREE. He
has struck out again and slumps over to the
bench. "Rats! I’ll never be a big-league player.
I just don’t have it! All my life I’ve dreamed
of playing in the big leagues, but I know I’ll
never make it." Lucy turns to console him.
"Charlie Brown, you’re thinking too far
ahead. What you need to do is set yourself
more immediate goals." He looks up.
"Immediate goals?" Lucy says, "Yes. Start
with this next inning when you go out to
pitch. See if you can walk out on the mound
without falling down!"
Point of the story? Do the next thing…
persevere through the next storm. Hang in
there and don’t worry about all that is to
come…God’s grace is sufficient.
5. Godliness. Godliness is a spirit of rever-
ence and respect to God in all matters. It
understands that He is a Holy God. We
must add Holiness to our faith. Not outward
compliance to certain rules, but inward pu-
rity of heart. That will happen as you hon-
estly and passionately seek after a deeper
relationship with Jesus.
6. Brotherly Kindness. Because you have
a relationship with God, because you have
faith…exercise brotherly and sisterly kind-
ness to others. We so often judge one an-
other and act in ways inconsistent with the
Christian life. Let’s be like the Thessalonian
Church: "... you yourselves are taught by
God to love one another; for indeed you
do practice it toward all the faithful ...
But we urge you to excel still more…” 1
Thessalonians 4:9-12
7. Love. This love is the highest form of
love. It is agape love. Love that doesn’t add
requirements to it (I’ll love you if… I’ll love
you when…) This is unconditional love. And we must add it to our faith. Faith and love
go hand in hand. St Paul wrote "if I have
faith that can move mountains but do
not have love, I am nothing." 1 Corin-
thians 13:2
We need to add these seven things to our
faith if we are to take a licking and keep on
ticking. A closing thought: Character with-
out faith is cheap veneer.
Knowledge without faith is useless
information.
Self-control without faith is straining
unnecessarily.
Perseverance without faith is empty at
the end.
Godliness without faith is mere religion.
Brotherly kindness without faith is self-
serving.
Love without faith is not true love.
Now that is a Faith that takes a licking
and keeps on ticking!

Our Saviour’s has just completed our third week of hosting the Light
at the Inn Homeless Shelter. We had 1-2 guests throughout the week.
We would like to thank everyone for supporting this new ministry.
Whether it was through providing and serving meals, working intake and
night shifts, riding along or driving the van, laundry or through donations -
the guests were so thankful and appreciative. You have made a difference
in their lives.
