With P’X5, Migros-Genossenschafts- Bund (MGB) in Zurich with its ten coope-ratives and around 700 supermarket branches is launching a software pro-gram for 3D visualisation of branches as well as the efficient assembly of all the necessary product display parts and mounting parts. P’X5 Store Solution supports both macro planning and micro planning of a branch, thus from the rough area distribution to placement of shelving layouts as well as the neces-sary product display. After completion of the project in spring of 2018 the lar-gest retailer in Switzerland expects,

among other things, higher efficiency and lower expenses in the planning of around 60 branch renovations per year as well as the option of being able to display all parameters visually with re-ference to branch space.
The project started in 2014 when the MGB carried
out an evaluation process to determine the most sui-
table software solution for retail outlet planning.
With the assistance of a detailed requirements cata-
logue several providers were invited to present their
solutions. Subsequently workshops based on the de-
tailed specifications were carried out with the two
front runners: „The broad performance spectrum, in-

tuitive design of product displays as well as its flexi-
bility to be adapted to Migros-specific requirements
convinced us of the P’X5 Store Solution”, reports
Petra Bernhardsgrütter, project manager at MGB. Af-
ter that, various clarifications had to be made with
the collaboration of all cooperatives both from the
standpoint of business as well as that of IT, until in
spring of 2016 the final decision for the implementa-
tion of the P’X5 Store Solution in Migros was made.
Since then the furnishing library has been designed
to meet the requirements of all ten cooperatives. It is
being filled with all the relevant product display
parts and mounting parts for a branch, which current-
ly corresponds to around 1,300 individual parts. The
next step involves the building of the interface to the
existing shelving layout software, to be able to use
the planogram information created in it efficiently.
Integration into the existing IT environment
By the end of the year the various CAD systems being
used in the ten cooperatives should all be connected.
Then not only complete ground plans, but also geo-
metric information about racks and shelving systems
constructed there will be able to be imported. CAD
designers will also have access to the furnishing in-
formation in the catalogues. „The consistency begins
with importing the ground plans to the designing
branches”, says Petra Bernhardsgrütter. „At the end
we will set the shelving layout to the exact same
planning basis, thus reducing coordination expendi-
tures between the persons involved in the process.”
Significant savings
In the planning of a retail outlet an average five work
days can be saved for determination of the corres-
ponding product display requirements. Today this
work step is still executed manually. With the linking
of the master layout information from the centrally
fed shelving layout software, adjustments on the
part of MGB can be reflected and updated in the co-
operatives and branches, resulting in considerable
efficiency gains. The cooperation of the various per-
sons involved in the process (CAD designers, space
planners and merchandisers) should be optimized
and simplified with the support of the system th-
rough the various interfaces and process links.
Consistent from concept to controlling
Up to now, assortment concepts developed by MGB
for the cooperatives can only be communicated in
tables and in the form of presentations. In the future,
new concepts together with the required furnishing
components and article information can be displayed
three-dimensionally in P’X5. These modules are
then available for the planning process. „In the fu-
ture, this makes it easier to communicate national
concepts in detail and without errors”, says Andreas
Bettler, Director of Space Planning at MGB. With the
return flow of exact sales figures, the performance of
the concepts at specific branches could easily be vi-
sualized in the future. Up to now the productivity
calculations in the Controlling Dept. are carried out
separately from the respective merchandise place-
ment in the branch. Assortments that attract attenti-
on in the customer loop will thus be measured with
the same standard as those in less frequented re-
gions of the branch. In P’X5 Store Solution producti-
vity calculations in the future will be applied to the
placement of the products and reproduced on the 3D
model. The results then affect directly the planning
of new concepts and branch optimisations.
Successful project flow
The complex structure of Migros with extensive auto-
nomy of the regional cooperatives requires above all
a high flexibility of the software, because uniform
standard solutions for all parties involved would not
work. The P’X5 Store Solution has proven itself as an
integration platform for different, existing system so-
lutions in Migros and thus ensures a consistent retail
outlet planning process. Already in the selection pro-
cess Migros employees were convinced by the high
adaptability of the Perspectix software. „During the
project, we received many proofs of this flexibility”,
says Petra Bernhardsgrütter. Through regular work-
shops with the developer, located in close proximity,
numerous details can be rapidly clarified and interac-
tively developed.
Perspectix AG in Zurich implements sophistica-ted software solutions for technical sales and store planning. Since being founded in 1996 the company has continuously developed into a cutting edge solution provider for the distributi-on and project planning of multi-variant pro-ducts.
Users of the P’X5 Sales Solution benefit from the experiences from complementary user bran-ches: Mechanical engineering, plant enginee-ring, electrical engineering, furnishing, store building, warehouse and logistics systems. With P’X5 Store Solution users get a tailored solution for store planning, product range configuration and branch evaluation. Due to the combination of sales optimisation, graphic project planning and product lifecycle management in a fu-ture-oriented technology, today Perspectix is a strategic supplier of well-known manufacturers and chain stores as well as partners of leading IT companies.
Perspectix AG is a company of the BORM Group.
