Students will complete Morning Work, which is a review of reading and math skills, and then select a book to read.

After morning announcements, we will check Morning Work!

This is a new time added to every student’s schedule. It is a time to focus on the individual needs of each student providing intervention or enrichment as needed.

During guided reading I will teach reading strategies through mini-lessons and focus on skills and comprehension. Students will read leveled books individually, with partners and in small groups.

This year the students will be indoors for morning recess. During this time the students will eat a snack, use the restroom, and have a choice of activities in the classroom.

Please send a HEALTHY snack to school with your child daily

Fruit, vegetables, yogurt, bagels, cheese and crackers, cereal bars…

No sweets please!!!!

During writing workshop, students will learn strategies for developing personal narrative and fictional stories. We will emphasize writing from our own life experiences, using model texts as examples. I will conference with students during this time to develop their individual writing skills.

• The students will begin to work on cursive writing as part of the Fundations program (reading decoding program from K-2)

*** Fundations is new this year in grade 3

• There will also be a focus on grammar skills

• Students will be learning about parts of speech and ways to make their writing more meaningful.

•Cursive will also be integrated into these lessons

Students will read self-selected books independently during this time. I will conference with the students to assess their reading comprehension.

The third grade math curriculum emphasizes problem solving skills, basic facts, measurement and basic algebraic and geometric concepts.

This year the third grade math class will be focusing on mastering the third grade math common core.

Students will be going to Mrs. Grantham for all social studies instruction. This year will focus on communities with an emphasis on the history, geography, economics, government and citizenship of our local area. Each unit will last for 4 weeks.

I teach science to my class and Mrs. Grantham’s class. I will start by teaching the first unit to my class for 4 weeks and the other 4 weeks your child will have social studies with Mrs. Grantham. The third grade science units include animal lifecycles and classification, composition of rocks and soils, and matter. Our first unit will be plants and animals.

Students will write in their agenda at the beginning of each week. Please see your child’s agenda daily for assignments and due dates! Every Friday they will bring home their Green folder with their mail. Please empty this folder and return it to school every week.

Every student in the class will have the opportunity to be the student of the week. They will:

•Your child will have a week to work on the poster at home and bring in the following Monday.

•You are welcome to take your child out to lunch sometime during that week if you would like to!

filled with exciting learning activities!
