Crushing hard rock in mines and quarries, no matter if in opencast or underground applications, is a challenge where both jaw crushers and gyratory crushers have proven themselves for decades. But the downside is that their large installation height means they require extensive and costly structures and caverns.

With its new eccentric roll crusher (ERC®) thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions has developed a groundbreaking solution for the primary crushing of hard rock and ore. The ERC® is particularly compact and robust, ideally suited for underground and surface operations. Its innovative design with an integrated screen offers significantly higher efficiency and capacities than conventional primary crushers.

Fines are screened out by means of an integrated grizzly and bypassed through the crusher housing.

The coarse particles are transferred into the crushing chamber.

The rotation of the drive motor is transmitted via V-belt drive to the eccentric shaft of the roll. This is generating the oscillating motion of the freely rotatable roll with constant large stroke in the entire crushing cavity.

Consequently, the crushing gap between the roll and the jaw in the crusher housing changes constantly and the feed material which has not been screened out is continuously crushed between the roll and the jaw as it falls by gravitation until the product exits the crushing chamber at the bottom.

A patented fully hydraulic gap setting/retraction system allows for automatic adjustment of the gap, compen- sation of liner wear and release of tramp metal or other-wise uncrushable material content.

Advantages – How you benefit

The particular compact design and less number of components simplifies transportation, installation and maintenance.

The integrated grizzly with efficient bypassing of fines boosts crusher capacity, reduces energy consumption and increases liner lifetime.

A particularly effective kinematic of the oscillating roll with constant stroke in the entire crusher cavity allows for higher reduction ratio and more effective use of crushing energy.

Under load, the freely rotatable roll slowly turns backwards which distributes the loads over the entire roll circumference and ensures uniform wear and maximized lifetime of the roll liners.

The high moments of inertia of the roll and flywheels contribute to accumulated crushing energy and effectively compensate for the load peaks that occur during comminution.

The symmetrical arrangement of the roll allows the crusher to be balanced with great precision, which significantly reduces machine vibrations and loads on surrounding structures and makes the crusher also ideal for use in mobile and semi-mobile crushing systems.

A patented fully hydraulic gap setting/ retraction system for the jaw offers a wide range of gap setting for safe and simple adjustment of product size, compensation of liner wear and release of tramp metal or otherwise uncrushable material content.
