Our Pastor

Rev. John J. Dougherty, CSC was born in Niles, MI and raised in nearby Buchanan, MI. He was the 6th of 8 children. He first came to know Holy Cross through his uncle, Br. Fulgence Dougherty, C.S.C. who served in Bangladesh, Africa and for over 30 years at the University of Portland. As well, Holy Cross priests from Notre Dame served regularly in his home parish of Saint Anthony. Upon graduation from Buchanan High School, Fr. John attended the University of Portland where he graduated with degrees in History and Philosophy. After graduation from the University of Portland, he attended the American Graduate School of International Management in Glendale, AZ earning a Masters in International Management. After several years of employment with Chase Manhattan Bank, Fr. John entered the Candidate Program at Moreau Seminary and proceeded to go to the Holy Cross Novitiate in Cascade, CO. After the Novitiate, Fr. John did his Theology in Berkeley, CA at the Jesuit School of Theology earning his Masters of Divinity degree.
Fr. John’s first assignment was at St. Pius in Granger serving first as Deacon and then Associate Pastor. After three years in Granger he was appointed Director of André House in Phoenix, AZ where he served for 3 years. After one year in the Admissions Office at University of Portland, Fr. John returned to Phoenix as Pastor of Saint Gregory’s parish where he served for 9 years. Fr. John then returned to Portland as Pastor of Holy Redeemer Parish where he served for the last 8 1/2 years. Fr. John joined St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church in January 2018.

GOLDEN NUGGETS
Golden Nuggets is a group of mature adults in their golden years who meet monthly for fellowship, spiritual input, learnings important for our safety and wellbeing. We would love to have you join us at our meeting and the noon Mass afterwards. We meet from 10:00 a.m. until noon in the church office building the first Monday of the month. Parish Outreach & Social Justice JUST FAITH
Just Faith offers an intensive education and formation program for people who are interested in social ministry and social justice. This committee is about transforming the dominant culture of our society from one of materialism and individualism to one of relationship and justice. PRISON MINISTRY
The Prison Ministry provides one-on-one visitation to the incarcerated, as well as re-entry support for those re-entering society. This ministry introduces gospel values into the lives of those incarcerated and their families in an attempt to break the cycle of recidivism. RESPECT LIFE
The Respect Life Ministry is committed to the preservation of all human life through promotion of the dignity and sanctity of all life. It provides education and information regarding life issues from conception to natural death and the quality of life each individual deserves to receive. ROSARY MINISTRY

ST. IGNATIUS MARTYR FOOD PANTRY
The Food Pantry provides food and hygiene supplies, infant food and diapers, assistance paying for medical prescriptions and distributes Capital Metro day bus passes to homeless men and women and those who reside in area zip codes 78704, 78741, 78744, 78745 and 78746. STEPHEN MINISTRY
Stephen Ministry provides one-to-one Christian care to the bereaved, hospitalized, terminally ill, separated or divorced, unemployed, relocated, or those facing any other life challenge. NEW LIFE PRAYER GROUP
The New Life Prayer Group praises, honors and worships the Lord Jesus Christ through prayer, song and worship. Worship ALTAR SERVERS
Altar Servers assist the clergy with the prayerful celebration of the liturgy. Adults and children at least 10 years old (or 9 in 4th grade) are eligible to join. Servers should have made their first Holy Communion, may have to carry up to 15 lbs., and must be willing to attend occasional workshops. ARTS & ENVIRONMENT

Lectors are a very important part of the Mass by proclaiming the word of God, announcements and general intersessions. ACTS RETREATS

To schedule your event on the parish calendar, submit your request via our website at: st-ignatius.org/facilityscheduling - Once you receive approval and confirmation of your event, get your event out there by submitting a bulletin announcement, Mass announcement, and social media requests. WEEKLY BULLETIN

MASS ANNOUNCEMENTS
Mass announcements are due by 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Any announcement received after that time will not be included in the weekend announcements. Mass announcements need to be brief and concise, two to three sentences max. Announcements that exceed this will be shortened or reworded. All Mass announcements are normally approved by the Pastor.
