Please notify the parish office when a friend or loved one is in

need of prayers, Eucharistic Minister, or is in the hospital.

Last year, over a dozen St. E parishioners put their faith into action and got the ball rolling on a new ministry to ease the loneliness of homebound seniors and people with minor disabilities living within St. E parish boundaries. Today, Caring Visitors has over two dozen volunteers and is actively seeking homebound “clients” who would like regular weekly visits or phone calls. With more elderly adults staying in their homes longer—often without family nearby—loneliness can be a real problem. What better way to live our faith than to be present to those who just need some human contact and a listening ear? Volunteers are screened and complete a brief online training module for working with vulnerable adults. As requests are received , volunteer coordinator Doug Kinney pairs “clients” with a Caring Visitor volunteer and joins them for an in-home meeting to determine a schedule of weekly visits or phone calls that works best for both. The ministry offers four different levels of service: weekly companionship visits (1 – 2 hours each); weekly companionship phone calls (30 mins – hour each); daily check-in phone calls to remind to take medications (30 seconds each); or brief transportation for nearby errands (scheduled at least 48 hours in advance). Volunteers choose what level they can provide; clients choose what they need. If you are interested in volunteering or know of someone who would appreciate a caring visitor, call the parish office at 816-523-2405.

Each month we highlight the Christskill attributes of organization, faithfulness, stewardship, responsibility, hard work, forgiveness, patience, generosity, initiative, cooperation, integrity, love, curiosity, problem-solving, sense of humor, perseverance, flexibility and humility. Of all the achievements of students at St. Elizabeth, earning the Christskill Award is the most significant. This award is voted on by classmates and directly reflects the image of Christ we value at St. Elizabeth. The following students received the 2018 Christskill award at the recent year-end assembly. In an effort to increase awareness and understanding of

our parish’s finances, each week in this column we will

provide updates and information regarding a variety of

topics:

The end of our fiscal year is just around the corner. Now is a good time to check on the status of your pledge and, if needed, bring your contributions up to date. Please contact Vicky Kinney in the parish office if you have any questions. While some parishioners and ministries take a vacation over the summer, we are called to participate in Sunday Mass and share the gifts that God has entrusted to us. We encourage you to stay connected to STE, even when you are out of town by reading the bulletin online and/or the This Week at STE email, and continue to give in gratitude for your blessings. If you plan to be out of town, please consider sending your contribution to the parish office before you leave.

New $5K Match!

We have just received a brand new matching gift for the next $5K donated to the Heritage Fund. If you have been thinking about donating this year NOW is the perfect time to double the impact of your gift! Donate online today at www.stekc.org (or by check at the PMC) to support the legacy of outstanding Catholic education that is St. Elizabeth Catholic School. With your help, we can reach our $70K goal and this new matching challenge.

10TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Please notify the parish office when a loved one is serving in and

returning home from the military.

We remember in our prayers the loved ones of our

parish family who serve in the military:

Jeffery Dougherty, grandson of Connie Dougherty; Jacob

Giwa, son of Kathleen Giwa; Major James Harris, son-in-

law of John and Kieran Cullinan; John Kelly, son of Joe Kelly

Dear Parishioners,

Summer slows the pace of our community in some

noticeable ways. School's out. Some committees cease

meeting for a month or two. The Parish Office closes

at noon on Fridays. But there are still busy days. For

example, I am involved in the celebration of five

Sacraments on June 9! A friend is being ordained a

permanent deacon for our diocese that morning at the

Cathedral. I have a wedding here that afternoon. Following

that are Confessions at 3pm, then 4:30pm Mass. Right after

Mass is a Baptism. What a day! As a priest, it is good for

me to pause and give thanks for the privilege of being in

the middle of so much good and graced activity.

Unfortunately it's much easier to worry about it all getting

done: arriving on time, getting to the next thing, doing

what I need to do to prepare, conserving energy for what

remains. I have to keep reminding myself on such days of a

little mantra that came to me years ago: "Don't forget to

enjoy it!" These are joyful, beautiful, saving events that

deserve and cultivate a spirit of joy. Sacraments are sacred

moments in the life of a community as well as in the lives of

individuals. So with a grateful, disciplined spirit, I tell

myself: "Don't forget to enjoy it!"

I know there is eagerness among us to see external,

tangible progress on our building projects. People ask me

frequently when we are going to break ground. I love the

enthusiasm we all have for it! Our Building Committee is

working faithfully with the design team from Straub

Construction and Hollis + Miller Architects. We are making

progress but the amount of groundwork, as well as

consultation with the city and the diocese, paces the project

rather slowly at this point. There are so many facets to an

undertaking of this magnitude, and to do this work well, we

need to attend to those. We also can only build what we

can afford, and what we are allowed by diocesan policy to

begin. A project must have 70% of the total cost pledged,

and 50% of the total cost on deposit, before

groundbreaking can happen. We are making great

progress, and I know it's difficult to be patient, but things

are happening and moving in the right direction. I hope to

give an update soon!

Peace,

Fr. Greg

In today’s second reading Saint Paul argues that a community’s journey of faith culminates in the thanksgiving expressed in the Eucharistic meal, when the bread is broken, the cup of salvation is lifted up and the covenant with Christ is affirmed. In fact, he maintains that the entire community’s “inner nature” is constantly being renewed in hope through this thanksgiving meal. Good stewards understand that the weekly celebration of the Eucharist is a communal gesture by which the gathered community reveals its faith and hope in the risen Lord. Moreover, that it is a profound communal act of faith that Christ is present and active in the world at this moment. Given that understanding, what responsibilities do we take on to lift up the faith of our community? What part do we play in giving it hope?

~International Catholic Stewardship Council

Stewardship Shout-Outs:

• To everyone who heard and answered the call to help

stock our food pantry last weekend

Pledged: $5.55 Million

Total Collected: $1,461,629 We continue to receive new pledges, each one getting us

closer to our next goal of 6 million dollars. If you have not

completed your commitment card yet you can do so online

or there will be cards and envelopes in the pews. We

would like every household in the parish to be part of

this campaign. Pledge online at www.stekc.org.

Have you been wondering when we will be starting

construction on the first project? According to diocesan

policy, we can't break ground on each project until we

have 50% of the money collected (and 70% pledged).

Based on pledges received to date and projected

collections we expect to reach this by the end of the year.

Straub Construction and the Building Committee are

developing a construction schedule to align with this

projection and the many logistical factors of major

construction on an occupied site.
