Project history – The “what”

eFolio Minnesota is a statewide electronic portfolio infrastructure that permits eligible users the ability to create and administer their own education/career web-based repository.

Eligible eFolio Minnesota users include:

Minnesota students of any age and at any institution (K-12, two-year, four-year, etc);

Any Minnesota resident;

Any employee of a Minnesota political sub-division

Project history – The “why”

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities received federal funding through the Department of Education to enhance our e-learning programs and services with a focus on the needs of the 21st century learner. The service aspect of the project provided the financial support for eFolio Minnesota.

There are/were a number of reasons for the success of eFolio Minnesota: Project structure – student, worker and

educator groups; Project assumptions – one-size does not

fit all, nothing but “net”, KISS, and yours for a lifetime;

Key partnerships – Avenet, CareerOneStop

eFolio Minnesota today As of October 1,

2003 we have 8,391 registered users (5,273 of them students).

Double digit monthly growth in the number of users.

Over 1 million hits a month

Getting started on your eFolio Every site has two

“views” Public side - this is the

side that users can view your information

Administrative side – this is the side that you as the site administrator uses to manage content

Click on the word “Home” Click on the “edit” button

“on” and “off” buttons identify whether content may be viewed (“on”)

The “edit” button allows you to add or change content

These tools allow you to add, sort and configure sections

Basic navigation – adding text and images

Adding text – click into the text book and go ahead and include any amount of text.

Adding an image – click on the text “image” then click on “browse” select the image file then hit upload. You can place a title and description of your image (ADA consideration).

When you are done you must hit the green “Finished” button.

“Word processing” type interface with the ability to include HTML

These tools allow you to add multi-media documents and manage text.

Managing content

Click on the “Content Tools” tab and select (click-on) “Education”

Click on “add item” Add text where appropriate (the only required item is “School” To add a document click on “Document” then “Browse,” select

and “Upload” the document. Click on “Finished” to save your work.

Different sections have different templates. “Education” looks different from “Honors and Awards”.

Help can be customized.

Managing content – Design Center

Click on the “Site Management” tab. Select “Design Center” To see the different designs available click on the numbers. Select a design by clicking on the thumbnail. A larger image

appears in the center of the screen. Some designs have different color schemes.

Click the green “Choose this one” button.

“edit” allows you to place your name, slogan, footer, etc in the banner

at any point in time. When you are done click on the green

“finished” button.

Managing content - Security

Click on the “Security” tab. The security section is where one would modify/ maintain

their own user name and password. In addition users can establish accounts to allow individuals access to password protected portions of their eFolio. The example in our case is your “Reference” section.

Managing content - Security

Click first on “Users”. Click on “permissions” by the user name “test”. Click on the box by “References” then click “Save” To activate the user “test” click on the red “off” button.

The button should now be green and “on”. You can explore this functionality by going out to the “Live Site”.

Content sections

Identifies whether a view is “Public” or restricted access a checkbox

For advance users one can allow others to have rights to modify or publish into the site

Support tools – Help!!!

There are a variety of ways that help is provided: One can click on the “Help” tab on top of the screen; Help is available within the “Quick Tips” these tips can be

linked out to a “Quick Tip Help Site” that contains additional information;

In Minnesota, there is a partnership available through the CareerOne Stop Service Center and they provide 1-800 phone support six days a week.
