CAREER NOTES

LAST TIME OUT: July 2 at Kansas City, Gibson earned his second consecutive win after going 8.0 innings without allowing a run on four hits with four walks and seven strikeouts in the Twins 2-0 win...he gave up eight baserunners (four singles, four walks), but held the Royals to 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position...here are more notes from his start: • It marked the third time in Gibson’s career that he went 8.0-or-more innings without allowing an

earned run...coincidentally, in all three starts he allowed exactly four hits, but this was his first time doing so on the road...this was also the third time this season a Twins starter has gone 8.0-or-more shutout innings, with Gibson’s May 1 start at Chicago-AL and Mike Pelfrey’s June 7 start vs. Milwaukee being the others.

• Gibson has now worked 6.0-or-more innings in 10 of his last 13 starts...in that time, he is 5-4 with a 2.53 ERA (85.1 IP, 24 ER), 24 walks, 62 strikeouts and a .226 opponents average; his 2.53 ERA is the sixth best in the AL.

• The win was Gibson’s fifth career against Kansas City, his most against any team...he lowered his lifetime ERA against the Royals to 2.20 (45.0 IP, 11 ER), which is the tied for the lowest among AL Central opponents (Chicago).

RISP-Y BUSINESS: After holding the Royals hitless in five at-bats with runners in scoring position, opponents have now hit just .181 (15-for-83) in that situation against Gibson this season with a .622 OPS...the .181 average against with runners in scoring position is the fifth lowest in the AL and the eighth lowest in all of baseball...in Gibson’s previous two seasons, batters hit .302 (65-for-215) off him in that situation.

DENIED IN JULY: Gibson hasn’t allowed a run over his last 22.0 innings on the road in July, a stretch that dates back to his final road July tilt in 2013 at Seattle...in 10 career July starts, Gibson has a 5.08 ERA (56.2 IP, 32 ER) with 20 walks and 31 strikeouts...only three of those starts came at Target Field, where he has a 12.51 ERA (13.2 IP, 19 ER).

GROUNDED: After inducing another double play in his last start, Gibson has now induced double plays in 14 of his 16 starts this year, including a season-high three on May 30 against Toronto...he now has 18 on the season, which is tied with teammate Mike Pelfrey for the major league lead...after getting 11 ground ball outs in his last start, he has induced 171 total ground balls this season, which is the most on the team, tied with Felix Hernandez for the third most in the AL and ninth most in baseball...his 2.55 ground ball/fly ball ratio is fourth best in the AL...in fact, since the start of last season, his 2.40 ground ball/fly ball ratio is third best in the AL and 10th highest in all of baseball.

AGAINST THE ORIOLES: Gibson will be making his second career start against the Orioles...in his previous outing, August 30, 2014 in Baltimore, he went 5.0 innings and allowed just one run on four hits (three singles, one double) with three walks and six strikeouts, not factoring into the decision of the Twins 3-2 defeat...the only run he allowed came on a Jimmy Paredes RBI double in the fourth inning...he retired the final six hitters...this will be his 12th career start against the AL East.

NO IN BETWEEN: The Twins have won 27 of Gibson’s 57 career starts...in those 27 games, Gibson has a record of 21-0 with a 1.72 ERA (177.2 IP, 34 ER), 52 walks and 105 strikeouts...he has given up just five home runs in the Twins last 22 wins when he has been on the hill, a span covering 152.0 innings...conversely, in the 30 losses, Gibson has a 7.40 ERA (153.1 IP, 126 ER) with 58 walks, 96 strikeouts and an opponents’ average of .310...however, in the eight losses the Twins have this year in his starts, his ERA is down to 5.44 (44.2 IP, 27 ER).

HISTORIC MAY: In six May starts, he went 3-1, 1.36 ERA (39.2 IP, 6 ER), nine walks and 24 strikeouts...his previous best month came in June of 2014 when he had a 3.16 ERA (37.0 IP, 13 ER), 3-2 record, seven walks and and 21 strikeouts...Gibson’s 1.36 May ERA was the best in the AL and the fifth best in baseball...he has made 11 career starts in May, going 4-3 with a 2.43 ERA (66.2 IP, 18 ER), 15 walks and 38 strikeouts; the 2.43 ERA is the best of any month of his career.• His May was even one of the best in Twins history...his 1.36 ERA is tied for the third best May ERA

in Twins history with Scott Erickson (1991), and only Jim Hughes (0.87 ERA in 1975) and Jim Kaat (1.24 ERA in 1972) had lower ERAs in May since 1961.

2014 RECAP: Gibson finished his first full major league season with a record of 13-12, the second most wins on the staff (Hughes - 16)...finished second in starts (31), innings pitched (179.9) and quality starts (15), and third in strikeouts (107).• Won each of his first three starts to become the first Twin since Livan Hernandez (2008) to make the

Twins starting rotation and begin the season with three consecutive victories...he became one of just three pitchers in Twins history to start the season with a record of 3-0 while posting a sub-1.00 ERA, joining Bill Krueger (1992) and Francisco Liriano (2006).

• Recorded a career-high eight strikeouts twice: June 18 vs. Boston and September 23 vs. Arizona.

GIBBY IN THE COMMUNITY: Gibson will welcome student athletes from all over Minnesota to games this season. The students, from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes program, will receive game tickets paid for by Gibson and the chance to watch batting practice from the field. Gibson, a strong supporter of FCA, will also visit with the athletes during their visits.
