MINUTES OF THE COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
HELD TUESDAY, AUGUST 7, 2018 AT 5:02 P.M. IN THE COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS
CITY COUNCIL CONFERENCE ROOM LOCATED AT 2277 EAST BENGAL
BOULEVARD, COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, UTAH
Present: Mayor Mike Peterson, Councilmember Mike Shelton, Councilmember Scott
Bracken, and Councilmember Tali Bruce.
Present: Assistant City Manager Bryce Haderlie, City Attorney W. Shane Topham, City
Recorder Paula Melgar, Police Chief Robby Russo, Public Works Director Matt
Shipp, CED Director Michael Johnson, Assistant Fire Chief Mike Watson, Public
Relations Specialist Dan Metcalf.
Excused: Councilmember Christine W. Mikell and City Manager John Park.
WORK SESSION
Mayor Peterson called the meeting to order and welcomed those present.
1. Public Relations Report - Dan Metcalf
Public Relations Specialist Dan Metcalf provided the Cottonwood Heights’ media reports
with Staff follow-up, where needed.
2. City Council and Staff Reports
This report is available on the internet at www.ch.utah.gov. This agenda item is set aside to allow
council members to ask questions or for staff to bring the council up to date of any changes since
the report was made.
Councilmember Scott Bracken – School Construction and Parking
Chief Russo - Next week Truth in Taxation presentations.
a. Video Streaming City Council Meetings - IT Matt Ervin and Assistant City Manager Bryce Haderlie
IT Matt Ervin and Assistant City Manager Bryce Haderlie updated the council on options to
video stream city council meetings.
b. Five Year Road Maintenance Plan – Public Works Director Matt Shipp
Public Works Director Matt Shipp shared the maintenance plan with the council and answer
questions.

3. Discussion on the Upcoming Truth in Taxation Open House and Public Hearing – Bryce Haderlie, Assistant City Manager
Assistant City Manager Bryce Haderlie led a discussion with city council on the presentation
and the open house scheduled for the Truth in Taxation.
4. Review of Calendars and Upcoming Events
Councilmember schedules for the next week:
a. Monday nights in August – 5 pm-8 pm – "Food Truck Night" at Mountview Park b. August 9 – 5:30 pm Reception and 6 pm Ceremony –Brighton High School
Groundbreaking
c. August 14 – Noon – Teacher Recognition Luncheon d. August 14 – 5 pm till 7 pm- Truth in Taxation Open House e. August 14 – 7 pm – Public Hearing on Truth in Taxation f. August 24 – 11 am till 4 pm - Blood Drive at City Hall g. September 4 – 5 pm – City Council Canyon Centre Tour h. September 4 – YCC Dinner – No City Council Meeting i. Sept. 8 – 6:45 am till 1:30 pm – Big Cottonwood Canyon Marathon j. Sept. 12-14 – All day - ULCT Annual Convention k. Sept. 15 – 10:00 a.m. – Bark in the Park at Mountview Park
5. Closed Meeting to Discuss Litigation, Property Acquisition and the Character and
Professional Competence or Physical or Mental Health of an Individual
At 7:11 pm Councilmember Bracken made a motion to move to a closed meeting to discuss
the character and professional competence or physical or mental health of an individual.
Councilmember Shelton seconded the motion. All “Yes”. The motion passed unanimously.
The recording was turned off at 7:11 p.m.
6. ADJOURN
At 8:03 p.m. Councilmember Bracken made a motion to close the closed meeting, resume
the work session and adjourn the work session. Councilmember seconded the motion. All “Yes”.
The motion passed unanimously.
The Work Session adjourned at 8:03 p.m.
