IntroductIon

the DePuy Synthes Spine MIS Lateral Platform was developed in conjunction with experts in the fields of neurosurgery and orthopaedic surgery to provide surgeons with a complete package optimized for minimally invasive access to the spine via a lateral approach. the components described herein allow for controlled distal expansion and simplified cage insertion. neuromonitoring may be considered when performing a lateral surgical approach. this innovative platform is composed of the cougar® LS Lateral Interbody Instrument System, cougar LS Lateral cage System, and PIPeLIne® LS Lateral access System. additionally, this integrated platform can be used in concert with the VIPer® MIS Spine System which offers versatile rod insertion options for complex and degenerative pathologies.

INDICATIONSThe PIPELINE® LS Lateral Access System is intended for use with the COUGAR® LS Lateral Cage System, which is indicated for use in the thoracolumbar spine (i.e., T1 to L5) to replace a diseased vertebral body resected or excised for the treatment of tumors, to achieve anterior decompression of the spinal cord and neural tissues, and to restore the height of acollapsed vertebral body. The Cougar LS Lateral Cage System is also indicated for treating fractures of the thoracic and lumbar spine. It is designed to restore the biomechanicalintegrity of the anterior, middle, and posterior spinal column even in the absence of fusion for a prolonged period. When used as a vertebral body replacement device, this system isintended for use with DePuy Spine supplemental internal �xation. The Cougar LS Lateral Cage System is also indicated for intervertebral body fusion with autogenous bone graft inpatients with degenerative disc disease (DD) at one or two contiguous levels from L2 to S1. These DD patients may also have up to Grade 1 spondylolisthesis or retrolisthesis at theinvolved levels. DD is de�ned as discogenic back pain with degeneration of the disc con�rmed by history and radiographic studies. These patients should be skeletally mature andhave had six months of non-operative treatment. These implants may be implanted via an open or a minimally invasive lateral approach. When used as an interbody fusion device, thissystem is intended for use with DePuy Spine supplemental internal �xation.

The EXPEDIUM® and VIPER® Spine Systems are intended to provide immobilization and stabilization of spinal segments in skeletally mature patients as an adjunct to fusion in thetreatment of acute and chronic instabilities or deformities of the thoracic, lumbar and sacral spine.

The EXPEDIUM and VIPER Spine Systems are intended for noncervical pedicle �xation and nonpedicle �xation for the following indications: degenerative disc disease (de�ned as backpain of discogenic origin with degeneration of the disc con�rmed by history and radiographic studies); spondylolisthesis; trauma (i.e., fracture or dislocation); spinal stenosis; curvatures(i.e., scoliosis, kyphosis, and/or lordosis); tumor; pseudarthrosis; and failed previous fusion in skeletally mature patients.

When used in a posterior percutaneous approach with MIS instrumentation, the VIPER Spine System is intended for noncervical pedicle �xation and nonpedicle �xation for the following indications: degenerative disc disease (de�ned as back pain of discogenic origin with degeneration of the disc con�rmed by history and radiographic studies); spondylolisthesis;trauma (i.e., fracture or dislocation); spinal stenosis; curvatures (i.e., scoliosis, kyphosis, and/or lordosis); tumor; pseudarthrosis; and failed previous fusion in skeletally mature patients.
