Future plan

Study of timing and spectral characteristics of x-ray emission from black hole x-ray binaries systems and to probe General Relativity in the strong field region very close to a black hole.

For this I will use the data of XMM-Newton, Suzaku and RXTE.

● My current work is related to the study of behavior of X-ray Pulsars during torque reversals . We have studied in detail the pulse profiles of X-ray Pulsar 4U 1626-67 during its eras of accretion torque and have established clear correlation between torque reversals and its pulse profiles. ( Submitted MNRAS)

● We have also done the Pulse Phase Resolved Spectroscopy of 4U 1626-67 to study the flux variability of low energy emission lines seen in its spectrum. ( In Preparation)

● We are trying to probe new ways to constrain neutron star mass and radius relation (EOS) using thermonuclear burst sources.

● We aim to determine the orbital parameters of HMXB source H 1417-624 (with Dr. Harsha Raichur).

● We aim to study a Black Hole Binary source GX339-4 more carefully. ( Work under guidance of Prof. Michael Nowak, Prof. Tomasso Belloni, Prof. Mendez Mariano)

Future Plans

● We plan to study both timing and spectral properties of many more sources in order to investigate the spin evolution, accretion and angular momentum transfer mechanisms.

● We aim to determine the correct and precise orbital parameters of more HMXB sources in future, in order to understand their geometrical structures.

Current work: Transient black hole systems. Looking for geometrical and physical structure of the accretion disc giving rise to QPOs. Pulsars. Looking for pulsation evolution of pulsars of various kinds. Looking for similarities in the various types of pulsars (Be binaries, HMXRBs, etc.). Studying the quasi-periodic emissions from pulsars. Radio counterpart of unidentified Fermi sources. Radio observation of possible counterparts of unidentified Fermi discovered sources also visible in the TeV regime.

Page 10: MIT-IUCAA workshop on X-ray Studies of Transient ...astrosat.iucaa.in/~astrosat/MIT-IUCAA_workshop/home_files/MIT...X-ray Studies of Transient Astronomical Sources ... The&energy&dependentBme/phase&lags&of&

Short term future (coming 1-2 years):- 1.  Investigation of geometrical structure of accretion discs during the various classes of quasi-periodic emissions in all types of X-ray binaries. Explore the possibility of the various regions of the quasi-periodicity in the system. This would involve correlated study of the spectral features. 2.  Assimilation of data on pulsar evolution, both the timing and spectral features. Long term future (1-5 years):- 1.  Simulation of accretion and related phenomena and obtaining of observational features from the theoretical study of the various types of accretion processes. 2. Multi-wavelength study of Blazar sources in the gamma-ray and radio regime.

I am currently working on Low mass X-ray binaries. Basically, I am studying Timing and spectral properties (studying the X-ray variability as well as X-ray spectroscopy of the source) of the black holes in our own galaxy using RXTE data.

I worked on the hydrodynamics of accretion flow around black holes and studied the accretion disk model to explain the observed spectral and temporal evolution.

Future Interest and Plan:

I want to study the accretion flow model to interpret the common accretion behavior of the Galactic black hole sources such as Phase/Time Lag variability and variability in Power Density Spectrum during outbursts.

This can be achieved by analyzing the observational data (archival) from various X-ray missions (RXTE, XMM, Suzaku, Swift etc.). This study includes the study of PDS, Phase Lag spectra of photons in different energy bands, Coherence, time variability of observed flux, evolution of accretion parameters and study of spectral parameters etc.

Future  Interest

In   many   Neutron   star(NS)   and   Black   hole(BH)   binaries,   the   X-‐ray  telescopes  XMM-‐Newton  and  Chandra  have  detected  relaBvisBcally  broadened    Fe  K-‐α  emission   lines  at  6.4  keV.  These  emission   lines  are   important  probes  of   the  dynamics  of   the  mater   in   the   strong  gravity  region  near  the    NS  and  BH.  The   Bming   analysis   of   these   sources   have   revealed   that   the   flux  varies   in   a   Bme   scale   as   short   as   millisecond.   The   typical   radial  distance  of  the  mater   inferred     from  the  dynamical  Bme  scale     is  about    15  –  100  km   from  a  1.4   solar  mass  NS  and  nearly  100  km  from  a  10  solar  mass  BH.  This   implies  that  a  spectroscopic  study  as  well  as  a  Bming  analysis  will   be   helpful   to   understand   the   dynamics   of   the   parBcles   in   a  strong   gravity   regime   and   may   also   be   used   to   test   theories  involving    gravitaBon.

Future Plans

● To understand the nature of X-ray reprocessing in transient X-ray binary

sources by studying the correlations between X-ray and optical profiles.

● To explore the possible reprocessing sites and their dimensions,

temperatures and orbital evolution.

● To probe the structure and geometry of regions close to the compact

object.

CURRENT WORK

I have done project on the effects of thermonuclear burst on QPOs in NS LMXR Binaries. The Light Curve and

Power Density Spectrum of the 4U 1636-536 (well known low mass X-ray Binary) suggest that there is clear relation

between QPOs and Thermonuclear Bursts.

FUTURE INTEREST

1. X-ray spectroscopy at different orbital cycles so that one could detect the various emission lines in the spectra. 2. Detailed spectral and timing analysis of X-rays so that nature of the sources can easily be known.
