The reason, of course, was the PANIC which Governments and Media have spread about the WUHAN [CHINA] Corona Virus developed in Wuhan (Hubei Province, Communist China) at the bitter-end of Last Year, 2019…

BUT… Does this Justify Trashing Our Economy?

Obviously, it does NOT! Panicked Over-Reactions will be much more harmful than CoViD-19. We slammed the door on our own Well-Being. Plus: …the “unprecedented level of coordination between the Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve” is a terrible mistake! … “But understand this—for good and for bad—the Fed’s balance sheet is headed to north of $7 trillion. That will not mean “actively intervening in the market.” That will make them the market”. This is Intolerable. Epicenter was Wuhan, now the Black Hole of New York!

THE Biggest Danger from Corona has been a PANICKED Government shutting down a $22 TRILLION-economy on account of a very minor illness. THE Biggest Danger going forward is a PANICKED Government implementing a sick policy of rewarding those who broke the rules and were exposed to Corona [by allowing them go back to work], while punishing those who kept the rules and were NOT exposed to Corona (by keeping them all in lock-down indefintely). The latter punishment has no end. It is like a “House-Arrest” [-A|G Bill Barr] sentence for us!! We can't have any Corona-antibodies while kept in Quarantine, and we can't leave Quarantine until we have those antibodies. Wrong Answer!! At least 99% of those who are exposed to Corona will thrive/survive. Don’t punish those who’re Corona-free.

In The Philippines, everyone has a face-mask. As in Japan/East Asia, they are routinely worn whenever you have a cold or cough, so as not to spread your germs to anyone else. You also see them on motor-cyclists (to keep the bugs off their teeth?!). In Manila, I found this humor-ous mask & brought it back as a souvenir after Graduation 2019. Now, in our CoViD-19 iso- lation, the grim mood, accumulated stubble, & T-shirt telling of not getting to travel/mingle… all seem to describe people’s depression and feeling trapped by governmental restrictions! No school? Un-heard-of! Quarantine those not infected? Ridiculous! Close all our Churches? Not in the Land of the Free! It’s UN-Thinkable!

Rev. Levi C. Williams was one of my Preaching/Greek Students in Liberia in 1979. He has used the frequent complaint that "Christianity in Africa is a mile wide and an inch deep!" as the title of his book. I remember Levi rubbing the little-finger-side of his hand on the back of a pew when he listened to a boring/wandering/ rambling sermon in class. That was our signal to "Sharpen your Cutlass [machete]! It meant the preacher was saying things which should have been left "On the Floor of his/her Study" ... not preaching God's Word, but un-related ideas. The antidote was to review your sermon manuscript & discard extraneous passages, leaving them on the floor = not taking them into the Pulpit! The best way to DEEPEN the Faith & Practice of your Congregations is Deep Exegesis, followed by on-target Hermeneutics. Verse-by-verse Expositional preaching is a great habit. ONLY preach what the Bible says & apply it in your Context! Levi's title has also been used to the Platte River, a river in my [Nebraska] Conference. To the traveller in a covered wagon [1800's] it looked un-crossable... but it is SO shallow that at some times in the year, a wagon could be safely driven right across its imposing River-Bed!

Medical Isolation prevents those are INFECTED with a Epidemic from mingling with general populations. It originated with Leviticus 13, forbidding those diagnosed as Lepers from living in any village or city. Each individual was responsible for getting a diagnosis whenever they thought they might be contagious! “Quarantine” refers to a Plague Ship being isolated for 40 days, to prevent asymptomanic crew/passengers coming from a place over-run-by-disease mingling with people living in a new area still Plague-Free. In the Corona-Pan-PANIC, those who‘ve been infected are free to roam around, while the HEALTHY are Isolated & Quarantined! On April 25, we’ll reach 40 Days of Lock-Down. Everything is Up-side-Down in our ridiculous ”through-the-looking-glass” USA States!

Dear Friends of Missions, From INSIDE a NURSING-HOME in “Corona-Tide” -5/13/2020 I have received a rare gift. Because I sold our old Family Home last Autumn, when I returned to the USA after Wesley College was closed by the Tanzanian Government 3/18, I moved into my apartment at Wesley Towers in Hutchinson, Kansas. I first spent 14 days in full Quarantine, never setting foot outside of my rooms, having contact only with the NURSES who checked my vital-signs twice each day & brought meal-trays up for me. Thus I was able to share, from the inside, with the people most endangered by Corona: Health-Care Workers. I still see these nurses at least once each day as they monitor me. Then, from Easter Monday to the present (and for the Foreseeable Future), I am back in contact with the OLDEST in our Society, the most vulnerable people in the USA. I eat meals with them (one to a table, spread out across a Conference Room), I converse with them (maintaining Social Distance of "4 Cubits"), and I always wear my Mask or a bandana when I am out in public/grocery-shopping (here in town, for basic necessities). It is not inappropriate for me to be here and checked so continuously: I am nearly 70 & a life-long sufferer of severe chronic Asthma. Since the Wuhan-Contagion primarily attacks the respiratory system, I am personally very much "At-Risk" myself these days. So: I find myself in a place where the great majority of Christians (even close Family) "cannot tread"--- and sharing the same vulnerability as both these groups do--- YET without Fear! I guess my most powerful rôle is to reassure Hope & dispel Fearfulness. I know that very few [so far NONE] of us here at Wesley Towers will suffer from the Co-ViD-19 Pandemic personally... yet perhaps the most tragic dimension of this Lock- Down is the way Death has swept through the closely-confined ranks in these Homes. I ask for your prayers! May Jesus Christ help me to minister faithfully in these days! I am also able to attend the only Worship Services being held in our whole city (which seems incomprehensible [with our Constitutionally Guaranteed Freedom of Religion]). Back in Tanzania, all the Churches continue to meet together for praise & prayer / guidance from God's Word. Corona is Increasing People's Faith and Trust in God! But here in the United States (& the United Kingdom as well, I think), dear Readers, the Christians are almost totally isolated by these TWIN Threats: Fear of Sickness & Fear of Governments which are OVER-STEPPING their Authority as never before!! I have never seen Christians so IMMOBILIZED, reduced to worshipping on Screens without any somatic experience of the wider Body of Christ beyond their Household. No. Holy Communion can't be shared electronically [forbidden by UM Discipline]. UN-fortunately, the majority of our congregations have shrunk so they CAN while practicing "ANTI-Social Distancing" within Our Large Sanctuaries, yet, IN-explicably, and UN-Faithfully, petty-potentates persuaded MOST Mainline Churches to "Forsake Gathering Together" (a habit condemned in Hebrews 10:25)! Co-ViD-19's approaching three-tenths of 1% of global deaths expected in 2020. Please, realize how INSIGNIFICANT that death-toll is (I'm sure in most US Deaths "attributed" to Wuhan Virus it's merely a minor "co-morbidity-factor" … NOT actual cause of death (this fake-news is exacerbated by Financial Rewards given to Hospitals which will pretend that Corona is THE Killer when it, in fact, is not). The British Methodist Church preserves a vital tradition of The Wesleys which we in the US have lost: vestiges of the Class Meeting. EVERY Methodist is VISITED EVERY MONTH. Pastoral Visitors/Class Leaders extend the Pastoral Ministry of congregations to keep these vital links & Spiritual Evaluations of each one's Walk. At least, these can continue without Violating Prohibitions against Large Groups. How much stronger our UMC Churches could be IF we had also preserved these "Ecclesiolae in Ecclesia" (Small Congregations within the Main Congregation)! It would still be allowed (in most jurisdictions) to meet through Small Groups.Japanese Christians endured centuries of extreme persecution through the means of Five-Family-Units [ 五 家族 ], since not every parent is ardently Christian! Pass on the Torch of FAITH!
