Total ProductionIn 2010, $434.2 million was generated through the county’s agricultural and forestry production sector.
Agricultural Production Mobile County ranked first in the state in greenhouse, nursery, and floriculture production. It contributed 40.8 percent of the county’s total agricultural and forestry production, making it the largest agricultural commodity.
Mobile County also ranked first in the state in commercial fishing. It contributed 20.9 percent of the county’s total agricultural and forestry production, making it the second largest agricultural commodity.
The third largest was cotton, which contributed 2.2 percent of the county’s total agricultural and forestry production. Mobile County also ranked second in tree nut farming, and fourth in dairy cattle and milk production.

Forestry ProductionTimberland accounted for 63.3 percent of the surface land in Mobile County. Total forestry production contributed 5.9 percent of the county’s total agricultural and forestry production.
Overall Contributions to Mobile CountyMobile County’s agricultural, forestry, and related industries generated 52,757 full- and part-time jobs, representing 23.3 percent of the county’s total workforce (226,719 jobs).
The total impact of agriculture, forestry, and related industries was $6.4 billion, which was 23.0 percent of the county’s total economic activity ($27.9 billion). The indirect business taxes impact was $255.1 million, 24.6 percent of the county’s total indirect business taxes.
