If you’re installing a modem for the first time, start at Step 1. If you’re replacing an existing modem, disconnect everything from your existing modem and start at Step 4.

1 Keep your main cable line connected to your wall outlet, but disconnect the other end from the TV or digital cable box(if you have one).

2 Connect the open end of the cable to the IN end on the cable splitter provided as shown here.

3 Now, using both coaxial cables provided, connect each one to the OUTends on the cable splitter as shown here.

4 Connect the open end of one coaxial cable to your digital cable box (if you have one) or TV, and the other open end of the coaxial cable to the back of the new modem.

5 Plug your modem’s power cord into the electrical outlet.

6 Connect the Ethernet cable provided from the yellow port on the modem, to your computer. Don’t connect the router just yet.

7 Wait five minutes for the modem to start up before moving on to Section 2. You’ll know your modem is powered up when the four lights are solid.

Use the wrench provided to ensure all your connections are tightly secured.

2 Connect the yellow Ethernet cable from the modem to the red WAN port of the Smart Router.

3 Plug the power cord back into the back of your modem and reconnect the battery backup if you’re using one. You’ll know your modem is powered up when the four lights are solid. This may take a few minutes.

4 Plug the Smart Router into the electrical outlet. Don’t see the power light? Press the power button on the back of the Smart Router.

5 Wait five minutes while the router checks for updates. You’ll know the router is done when you see the alternating green lights. If you’re using a wireless device to set up your router move on to Section 4. If you’re using a wired computer go to Step 6.
