HENRY FORD'S QUOTE OF THE MONTH
WORDS OF WISDOM FROM THE CREATOR
Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.
SEQUOIA CLUBDate: May 17-20

PREZ SEZ
First of all, I'd like to thank everybody for putting your faith in me to guide the club for the next year.
I'd also like to thank those who volunteered to help me with the various officer positions, Katrina for
V.P., Elaine as treasurer, and Jim R. for stepping up as secretary. Thanks also to those who offered to
fill the appointed positions that help keep the club running. We face several challenges in the
upcoming year, with possibly the most pressing being filling the last of the appointed positions
especially the newsletter. While Katrina was kind enough to step up with a mailer for this month, but
she already does so much for the club and it would be nice if we could find a new editor. While I'm
sure Katrina will be reminding everyone, our meetings are the real foundation of the club and road
trips can enhance the friendships between members. If you are able to help out by arranging for a
place to have one of our lunch meetings, it will be really appreciated by the entire membership.
Road trips, especially overnight trips, are more work to arrange, but leave great memories for those
who can participate. If you are interested in setting up a trip, but find the idea of arranging
everything overwhelming, there is usually a more experienced member that would enjoy helping
with the planning. A final task we have to address this year is to begin getting ready for our next
QC, which will come much too soon if we don't start planning for it now. I would like to get a small
group of members together to help decide on a location and activities, and hopefully start finalizing
things toward the end of the year.

Editor’s Note: The Thunderbird Agency is a murder mystery
story written by Modesto’s Rubén Porras. Every month you will
be able to follow along with private eyes, Jack Long and Eddie
Gibbs as they try to solve a case that neither of them were
expecting to end up on their desks in a rundown Chinatown
building in San Francisco. I hope you enjoy it! - Katrina
The Case of the Scoundrel and the Bar Maid
It had been a long and uneventful night for Jack Long and his
partner Eddie Gibbs. The duo spent hours in a cold car on a
cold pier watching for what was supposed to be a major
shipment of illegal contraband from Venezuela but nothing
ever materialized. As a matter of fact, the only eventful part of
the evening was when their trusty Thermos finally gave up its
last cup of hot java. Sadly this happened way too soon into
their shift, leaving both of the partners tired, frustrated and
irritable.
There had been too many nights like this since the retired San
Francisco detectives and best buddies started their post-cop
gig, Thunderbird Detective Agency and the usually fiery duo
was getting bored. They needed a spark. They needed some
action.
Named after their choice of transportation, their office was located in Chinatown over a Chinese restaurant
because it was really all they could afford to get started. Long needed the gig to pad his pension and Gibbs
needed to get out of the house because his wife wasn’t used to him being home as often. The two were
slowly driving one another insane even after over 30 years of wedded bliss.
Six months had passed since the agency opened and so far the duo had managed to find a few missing
pets, bust up a small illegal basement casino ran by incredibly stupid Russian mobsters, solve a case
involving a missing taco truck, and help to give a few ladies the evidence they needed to land huge divorce
settlements from their sleazy cheating husbands.
After a meeting of the minds one foggy day, Long and Gibbs decided to give the project six more months to
get more interesting and lucrative. After that they would likely end up being regulars at a wharf-side coffee
shop that spent their days fishing and polishing their cars. That wouldn’t be a bad life for many but for two
gritty ex-detectives used to gun fights and car chases, it simply wouldn’t be much fun.
It was a Tuesday afternoon when things changed for the pair. A Tuesday afternoon that neither one of them
could see coming. A Tuesday afternoon that would change their lives forever.
Changing of the GuardPapapolloni Mediterranean Bistro and Bar was a
great place to celebrate the holiday and greet our
new officers!
