    I'd personally like a Cave Story mod. Kobolds already remind me ofmimigas. Some people already build fortresses in the sky, and if you

    turn off caveins theoretically you could suspend them up there entirely.

    You can also theoretically breed dragons, although I've heard DF

    dragons can't fly (so, mod them into the sky dragons... in addition to

    flying, see if you can make them take a long time to hatch from their

    eggs, and make it so your civ is likely to start with tame ones), and it's

    conceivable for old witch women to herd packs of dogs in the middle of

    the desert. If we could figure out how to make a type of red flower and

    an artifact crown give off a kobold/mimiga-enraging syndrome, we'd be

    nine tenths there. Also make more of the races playable... Make the

    humans all researchers... Change the demons to be little angry cupids...

    Replace elves, dwarves and goblins with the funky green guys who

    refuse to speak except cryptically and robotic Soldiers From the

    Surface...

    In fact, you could call the mod that. "Soldiers From the Surface". Maybe

    subtitle it "Fortress Story".

    Oh yeah, and name all titans/megabeasts/FBs Balrog, but replace their

    available body forms with "lunchbox" and "toaster".

    If you say Dwarf Fortress only lacks graphically versus all other games,

    then I would have to go with one of the best games graphics-wise:

    I'd pay money for that.

    Needs more !!FUN!!, though. Terrible disease outbreaks, experimental

    superweapons that could flood the world create a galaxy consuming

    singularity, and something to serve as the HFS.

    I was actually working on the project already we're billing it as a

    Multiplayer Sandbox 4X Space Sim. Me and a programmer I've workedwith in the past are trying to assemble a proof of concept/alpha right

    now, and hopefully Kickstart it so we can hire a larger team that can

    tackle everything we want to do. I've been doing graphics design and

    crafting rough game mechanics for it for a few months now.

    One of the foundational principles of the game's design is that ship hulls

    and space-stations are created and customized fully by players, who can

    save the plans locally, or export them as in-game items which can be

    copied and traded between players. This means you can standardize

    ship construction across your empire, sell your services to other players

    as a shipwright, or even have an evil empire that has planned and built

    a giant Death Star, whose design specs you must keep secret lest an

    opposing faction find those plans, smuggle them out of your territory,

    and use the statistical information on its power supply, shield systems,

    etc. to exploit its weaknesses and destroy it.

    Ships also have an interior, procedurally determined by the shape of the

    hull, which allows crew members to repair damaged systems from

    within. Hull breaches, explosions, and boarding parties can kill your crew

    members. Players can also access construction facilities and research

    labs from within your ship, launch in a support fighter from your docking

    bay, or even join you in the bridge/cockpit to copilot the vessel with you(gaining control of certain weapon or tactical systems you designate

    during the Design stage). This means you could get together with a

    bunch of friends and recreate the bridge crew from Star Trek as you

    explore deep space.

    and spread to new planets and sectors, etc.

    It's a work in progress, and probably overambitious, but I'd like to see

    how far we can take it with the resources we have.

    Design and assemble your spaceship and staff it with your hand-picked crew.

    Explore a procedurally-generated universe which has its own living economy that

    is tracked in real-time.

    Work your way up from meager salvager, mercenary, or trader to commanding a

    space empire or mercenary fleet that has whole galaxies begging for mercy.

    Stations are now modular - start by deploying a docking bay, then ship minerals

    and resources mined from asteroids, salvaged, manufactured, or traded for, and

    design your space station piece-by-piece. Go from outpost to bustling space city.

    Contract managers to run your stations, and keep civilian populations happy and

    fed, and you can turn profitsss on a monopolized market.

    Battle enemy space ships through dogfighting prowess while simultaneously

    commanding your fleets through the radial menu as a strategy game where you

    play as one of the ships from the cockpit view, even while pirates are crawling

    through the halls of your own ship!

    Keep damaged ship parts in good repair, an !!Oxygen Recycler!! leads to quick

    Fun.

    NPC corporations rise and fall in real time, trading the goods NPC stations

    produce - make bets on which ones will last in the stock market, and use your

    fleets to ensure that your bets pay off!

    Diplomacy means you can spark wars between the sentient races, or broker

    peace, whichever most benefits your profitsss.

    The space economy grows dynamically in response to population growth - foster

    greater profitsss by ensuring that population rises in neutral space colonies, and

    they will have an abundance of wealth to trade with you. Or. Kill. EVERYONE!

    Yeah, so I'm basically making this game. It's going to happen.

    I think the "Star Titans" link in Soli's sig is about this, even if the

    website is empty.

    But, as I see this, it would be better staying a "private" project for now,as showing too much may attract more hype than interest, and people

    who would like their ideas in it, even if they would weigh it, that early...

    (for exemple, I think a standardized ship system would require different

    types of each part, working only with some others, but there is no point

    for this now, and listing everything that could "improve" the game later

    would be a drag...)
