Direct entry to Monash UniversityMonash College diploma programs are ideal for bridging the gap between current qualifications and the academic qualifications accepted by Monash University.
Diploma – equivalent to first year of a Monash University degreeA Monash College diploma teaches students how to succeed at university at the same time as completing first year of their degree.
Once students have successfully completed a Monash College diploma, and achieved the required results, they will move directly to second year* of their chosen degree at Monash University.
A global networkMonash College programs are offered in five countries. Student can study in Australia or through licensed partners in China, Indonesia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka.
Students also have the opportunity to complete their chosen degree at Monash University campuses in Australia, Malaysia or South Africa.
*Some destination degrees in the Faculty of Art and Design offer partial credit to first year university study.
Small classes and individual supportMonash College’s small class sizes help students move to tertiary study in a supported environment. Students receive personalised attention from teachers and have access to English language and well-being support systems.
Flexible start dates and progressionStudents can tailor the start of their Monash journey to coincide with their forecast entry into university. Monash College diplomas begin in February, July and October each year.

Faculty-designed diplomasMonash College programs ensure that students acquire the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their tertiary studies and beyond. They are fully endorsed and recognised by Monash University and designed in collaboration with the University faculties, leading educators and industry experts.
Credit transfer Credit transfer gives recognition for any relevant previous study and can further accelerate student entry to Monash University.
Monash College may grant credit for subjects (units) passed at other recognised institutions if they are considered equivalent in content and standard to those offered by Monash College or are relevant to the planned course of study.

Your pathway to Monash University
Diploma to degreeMonash College diploma programs provide a pathway into second year* of selected degrees in the Faculties of Art and Design; Arts; Business and Economics; Engineering; Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences; and Information Technology.
Diploma structureEach Monash College diploma is structured in two parts consisting of two trimesters each^.
The Monash College academic year is divided into three trimesters. Each trimester is approximately four months long with intakes in February, June and October.
Diploma program entry points
Students may enter the diploma program at either Part 1 or Part 2, depending on their highest education qualification and results.
Diploma Part 1Learning studies and e-learning
The Monash College Diploma Part 1 is for students with qualifications equivalent to an Australian Year 11. The diploma helps students make a smooth transition to successful university study. The Part 1 program is eight months in duration.
Students will be given insights and tools to help them become an independent learner with strong skills in critical, analytical and creative thinking and will foster a deep understanding of research techniques.
Diploma Part 2Equivalent to first year university
Students with a qualification comparable to Australian Year 12 may be accepted directly into Part 2 of a Monash College diploma.
In Part 2 of the Monash College program students undertake the equivalent of first year university studies. Successful students progress to the second year* of their chosen Monash University degree on completion of their diploma.

* Dependent on entry level, country of study, Monash College results and destination degree entry requirements.
^ The Monash College Diploma of Engineering Studies, Part 2 is of three trimesters (12 months) duration.

IntakesStudents finishing their Monash College diploma program can start at Monash University in February or July. Plan ahead to allow for any gap time between diploma course ending and university starting. Typically a diploma is completed over four trimesters (two trimesters per Part).

Entry requirementsTo commence at Monash College and go on to Monash University, you first need to meet age, academic and English language proficiency requirements.
1. Age requirementDiploma Part 1 – Students must be at least 16 years of age when they first enrol at Monash College.
Diploma Part 2 – Students must be at least 17 years of age when they first enrol at Monash College.
Monash College may offer a deferred place if a student does not meet the age requirement.
2. Academic requirementsEntry into Monash College at Diploma Part 1 or Diploma Part 2 depends on a student’s:
• academic results
• highest education qualification
• prerequisite subjects.

Diploma Part 1 – The minimum level of schooling required is Australian Year 11 or equivalent.
Diploma Part 2 – The minimum level of schooling required is Australian Year 12 or equivalent.

3. English language proficiency requirementsInternational students must be able to demonstrate English language ability before being admitted to Monash College.
English language requirements can be met if English was the language of instruction in secondary studies or an approved English language subject was completed.
Applicants who fall short of the English requirements are encouraged to undertake an English language program through Monash University English Language Centre. Refer to page 26 of this guide for more information or visit www.monash.edu/englishcentre.

Monash University campuses On successful completion of a Monash College diploma, students have the opportunity to enter second year of selected undergraduate degrees at Monash University campuses in Australia, Malaysia and South Africa.
Monash University in AustraliaMonash has five campuses around the city of Melbourne, which is consistently recognised as one of the most liveable cities in the world.
The Berwick, Caulfield, Clayton, Parkville and Peninsula campuses offer outstanding facilities including sporting amenities, accommodation and excellent teaching and study resources, as well as a wide range of relevant degree options.

Monash University in MalaysiaMonash established its first international campus in Malaysia in 1998 at Bandar Sunway, about 18km from central Kuala Lumpur.
Now located at a A$80m purpose-built site, the Sunway campus has almost 4000 students and is on track to become the University’s second largest campus.
Monash University Malaysia offers a state-of-the-art teaching and learning infrastructure, specialised laboratories, library and student centre. The University provides financial assistance for intercampus student exchange between Malaysia and Australia.

Monash University in South AfricaThe South Africa campus is located on a 100-hectare site in Ruimsig, a growing suburb 23km from the Johannesburg city centre.
Students at the campus benefit from small classes, advanced facilities and state-of-the-art technology.

ClimateMelbourne has a temperate climate with spring and autumn recognised as the best times of the year. Temperatures can be hot in summer and cool in winter. The mean maximum temperature in Melbourne is 19.8 degrees Celsius and the mean minimum temperature is 10.2 degrees, but maximums can be in the 40s in the summer and minimums can be below zero in winter. Mean rainfall is 649mm.

Apartments (flats) and houses
Private rentals vary in cost depending on size, quality and furnishings. Agreements are normally for 12 months with one month’s rent and a security bond payable in advance.
Rental agreements cannot be made before you arrive.
Before commencing your studies, it is a good idea to prepare your budget.
You should think about the costs of accommodation, food, personal expenses, books, stationery, clothing, travel and entertainment. These expenses are not included in your tuition and study fees.

Course packagingInternational students can go from Monash College to Monash University without having to reapply for a new student visa.
Monash can provide international students with a packaged offer of two or more Monash courses. A packaged offer enables students to commit to a study pathway and apply once for a student visa that lasts the duration of their studies.
If not packaged, the Australian Government requires each student to apply for separate visas for each course.
Students may have to return to their home countries during processing of applications and pay additional fees.

Commonwealth supported place (CSP)Full-fee university places are not available to domestic students.
In order to gain entry into their desired Monash University degree, students will be required to compete for a Commonwealth supported place.

Monash Coursework Scholarships Monash Coursework Scholarships provide financial support to eligible students who might otherwise be able to go to university.
To be eligible, a student must be:• an Australian or New Zealand citizen,
or holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa, and
• a commencing or continuing undergraduate student, and
• enrolled or intending to enroll in an undergraduate degree at a Monash campus in Australia, and
• from one or more of Monash University’s defined equity or personal disadvantage groups.

How to apply
VTAC applicationsThe VTAC application process is open to:
• an Australian citizen
• an Australian permanent resident
• a New Zealand citizen
• students currently studying an Australian Year 12 or International Baccalaureate in Australia
Applications are open from August to November of each year for entry the following year.
Please note that Australian citizens and holders of an Australian permanent resident visa applying from overseas, should apply to Monash College through VTAC.

Direct application to Monash CollegeStudents should apply directly to Monash College if:
• they are international students residing outside Australia and are not currently studying Year 12 in Australia
• they are domestic or international students applying for the Monash College June or October intakes
• the VTAC rounds have been completed for the February intake.
Step 1
Complete the Monash College Application Form including:
• a certified academic transcript of your most recent qualifications
• evidence of English language proficiency
• an application for credit transfer (if appropriate) and
• A$100 application fee.
Step 2
If successful, you will be sent an offer pack including:
• a letter of offer
• acceptance documents
• offer documentation
• an accommodation guide and
• under 18 guardianship/caregiver details (if applicable).
Step 3
Forward acceptance of your offer with your initial payment. Include:
• 50 per cent of the full tuition fee for your nominated course†
• Overseas Student Health Cover (applicable to international students only)
• completed under 18 guardianship/care giver documents (applicable to international students only).
+ The remaining balance of the tuition fee is payable on a trimester basis. You must pay tuition fees in full before the beginning of each trimester.3432
Step 4 (international students only)
Monash College will issue your pre-departure pack including:
• a welcome letter
• a Confirmation of Enrolment Form
• a copy of our Passport to Monash booklet (an information guide for international students), and
• a Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) Confirmation of Accommodation and Welfare Form for under 18 year olds (if applicable).
Step 5 (international students only)
• Arrange your own travel and student visa^
• Inform Monash College of your plans by returning the Airport Reception Form and Accommodation Form (if required).
^ Visa applications can take up to three months or more depending on your nationality and what country you are in.

If on a student visa, students must study full-time as per government regulations except in the finishing stage of a course or where repeating failed units.
