A Typical Adcote Sixth Form Timetable

Each lesson is 1hour long and there are 25 in a school week

Usually four AS subjects are chosen with 4 lessons each

One or two lessons of games based PE are also included as well as one lesson of PSHE when the Head of Sixth Form will give support and guidance

It is advised that for every hour spent in lessons you should be completing another hour of independent, self-directed study

You will have a generous allowance of six study lessons within the school week alongside the option to stay for Prep for further private study

All Sixth Formers will have use of the Sixth Form Centre and the Sixth Form Study Room which has dedicated networked computer access

Boarders may also study in their rooms in the Boarding House

Adcote offers a wide range of A Level subjects with flexible timetabling to allow the freest possible choice:

BTEC

• This is a flexible course that encompasses all aspects of dramatic performance and back stage production

• It can lead to the equivalent of between one and three A Levels depending on the number of units completed.

• Our flexible timetable allows for the best possible combination of qualifications for each student.

Keeping a track on student’s progress

• Small classes ensure specifically tailored targets are set• Use of the ‘Engage’ Information Management System to

produce Academic progress sheets four times a year and a full written report in the Spring.

• Targets and progress are thus closely monitored.• The Head of Sixth Form monitors feedback from subject

staff to ensure that academic progress is on track and discusses progress with the student.

The Importance of Year 12

• AS level examinations equate to 50% of all A level qualifications (AS + A2 = A level)

• AS level results are used to inform the predicted grades required for UCAS applications

ISI Inspection Report

• The school was praised for its teaching, with lessons rated as good, with some outstanding lessons observed.

• The curricular and extra-curricular provision was rated as "good". The report found that the "pupils are well educated".

• The inspectors reported that the school's recent examination results have been significantly better than the national average, and where "the vast majority of pupils achieve places at their first choice of university".

• The report further mentions that this "this success owes much to the pupils' positive values, the good opportunities provided by the curriculum and the quality of the teaching they receive".

• The "excellent" pastoral care was commended so that the pupils become "independent and well-motivated individuals", whose "manners and behaviour are exemplary". The report also praises the of links between the school and parents, which are rated as "excellent"
