U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
FEDERAL BUREAU OF PRISONS
MONDAY MORNING November 14, 2011
HIGHLIGHTS
Bureau’s Collaborative Reentry Efforts Highlighted
The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) has developed partnerships with the U.S.
Probation and Pretrial Services System on all levels – national, regional, and
local. Recently, the Office of Probation and Pretrial Services (OPPS)
published a special issue of its “News & Views” newsletter highlighting the
collaboration between the two agencies on reentry. The publication addresses
a range of topics relevant to the BOP that include evidenced-based reentry; a
staff training exchange program between the BOP and OPPS at FCC
Victorville; attributes of the federal location monitoring program; updates on
the BOP’s regional and institution Reentry Affairs Coordinator and
Mentoring positions; and video visiting, which is taking place at USP
Leavenworth, FCI Waseca, and FCC Forrest City. Other related topics
include an update on the Second Chance Act and reentry efforts from a
judge’s perspective. The September 26, 2011, issue of “News & Views”
emphasizes the importance of the BOP’s continued collaboration with its
federal partners to improve offenders’ chances for a successful community
reentry.

awareness about breast cancer and domestic violence.
The one-mile walk began at the institution’s entrance
and ended at the staff training center. Twenty-three
staff participated in the walk and attended an
information session given by FWP Manager Sandy
Rogers and FWP Alternate Manager Amy Carraway.

Institutions Serve the Community
FCI Bennettsville
Following a recent computer system upgrade, FCI
Bennettsville had 100 excess computers. On
November 7, the institution donated the computers to
the Marlboro County School District which will
distribute them to schools with the greatest need. This
donation will help students and members of the
community (who also use the school facilities) by
providing increased computer access for education
programs, counseling, and job training.

Maurice Graham, Computer Specialist; John Ray,
Inventory Management Specialist; and Mr. Quick,
Marlboro County School District representative.
FCI Tallahassee
On October 29, FCI Tallahassee inmates participated
in their 4th
annual Cancer Awareness Program.
Twenty-eight inmates, along with 30 staff, worked on
the planning of the event, and an additional 60 inmates
