awareness about breast cancer and domestic violence.

The one-mile walk began at the institution’s entrance

and ended at the staff training center. Twenty-three

staff participated in the walk and attended an

information session given by FWP Manager Sandy

Rogers and FWP Alternate Manager Amy Carraway.

The program provided an opportunity for staff to gain

information on the causes of breast cancer, the

importance of early detection, and the need to report

domestic violence.

and Correctional Officer Jennifer Garcia provided

participants with an educational pamphlet created by

FCI Mendota staff titled: “Drugs: A Road to Prison.”

The pamphlet provides local resources for drug abuse

treatment, information on the negative effects of drugs

and alcohol, inmates and drugs, and life in prison.

MCC New York Holds LGBT Program

On October 27, MCC

New York held a

program to celebrate

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,

Institutions Serve the Community

FCI Bennettsville

Following a recent computer system upgrade, FCI

Bennettsville had 100 excess computers. On

November 7, the institution donated the computers to

the Marlboro County School District which will

distribute them to schools with the greatest need. This

donation will help students and members of the

community (who also use the school facilities) by

providing increased computer access for education

programs, counseling, and job training.
