The Solution MailerBAG made of one-ply Advantage ONE or two-ply high-performance sack kraft features a double adhesive strip with a release liner on the flap. The patented solution is available with a folded or pinch bottom, with or without gusset. With its wide range of colour printing possibilities and optional laminated outer ply, MailerBAG offers higher-end branding opportunities. Moreover, its variety of size options make MailerBAG ideal for a wide range of products.

The ResultMondi successfully created the patented paper mailer with the know-how of industrial paper sack manufacturing to replace plastic alternatives. MailerBAG is a sustainable paper packaging solution, which is suitable for waste paper recycling streams – even in countries with the highest-level requirements.

Apparel accounts for the most popular online shopping categoryworldwide, and e-retail sales are expected to reach 17.5 percent of global retail sales in 2021.* Today’s online shoppers are increasingly using their purchasing power to seek alternatives to single-useplastic mailers.

To support this growing industry, and to help mitigate plastic waste, Mondi’s research and development team proactively set out to design a flexible paper mailer that is easy to open and suitable for product returns, if so desired.

Using Mondi’s EcoSolutions approach, our team of experts collabo-rated with key stakeholders throughout the value chain to determine sustainability aspects such as packaging lifecycles, recycling and CO2 reduction through optimised transportation. We focused on designinga high-strength paper bag that is producible on industrial paper sack machines. In alignment with the needs of the e-commerce industry, we agreed the bag would feature a double adhesive strip and an easy opening strip on the flap. Our research and development facilities tested several paper strengths and release liners to find the ideal adhesive strip.

At Mondi, we believe packaging should be sustainable by design – paper where possible, plastic when useful. The next generation of packaging requires the col-laboration of the entire value chain, from responsible sourcing to next life circular recycling.
