Mongolian Traditions

A tradition in Mongolia at the beginning of every year is called Tsagaan Sar “ White Mountain” is a 3 day holiday. This is a time where family and friends get together and renue there plan for a new and successful year. The first day is Bituun. The second day is Shiniin Neganand the third day is when the Tsagaan Sar feast takes place.

Music

The most traditional instrument in Mongolia is the “ Morin khuur” . Most families will try to have one of these instruments in their possession.

Mongolian Way of Life

Dairy products in Mongolia are very important to a persons status. Goat milk dominates this country and is a away of life. Milk stands for unselfishness, kindness and purity.

Clothing Traditionally worn clothes in Mongolia are

called Dell. Dell is made out of a variety of materials like cotton, silk, wool, suede, cashmere and other materials. Different ethnic groups in Mongolia have their own unique design to Dell. Along with traditional dress there is also a traditional headwear. There are 400 different designs for headwear. Then there are the Mongolian boots, which are always pointed at the tips. There are many different explanations for this.

Mongolia is located in Asia and is surrounded by Russia and China.

Mongolia has had three different historical flags but the most current one is the one showed above. This flag was adopted February 12, 1992. The strips of red represent liberty and progress. The blue strip represents the sky and is a traditional color. The yellow symbol is Mongolia's national emblem. The yellow symbol represents sire, sun, moon, water, earth and has the yin-yang symbol located in it.

Some popular sports in Mongolia are Horse racing, archery which is a tradition in some families and Wrestling
