Larry

Happy New Year! I am looking out my office window at the cold and dreary weather that has greeted us these first few days of 2013 and I can’t help but remember my

grandfather whom we called Daddy Bill. He was a farmer by profession and was a staunch believer in the annual predictions of the Farmer’s Almanac. I remember him

reading it almost as faithfully as his Bible and taking great hope in the fact that if it was cool and rainy on January 1, it meant we would have a “wet” year. He relied

heavily on the annual predictions and by most accounts was a fairly successful farmer, so perhaps there was some reliability to his beliefs and method. Let’s hope for a

wet year nonetheless!

As I look forward to the year ahead of us, I wonder where we will get our facts; what annual predictions will we place our hope and trust and faith in. Upon what will we

rely in 2013? I am not one to make New Year’s resolutions, but I think all of us deep down desire to do better than we did the previous year. Maybe this is the year we

stop that bad habit, or start that new exercise regimen. Maybe this is the year we put aside differences and seek to be truly reconciled to one another in grace and love.

Maybe this is the year we stop relying on gossip and innuendo and listen to the whispers of the Holy Spirit instead. Just maybe this is the year we truly open our lives to

receive God’s calling upon us as a faith community in this time and place.

2012 was a good year for FUMC Beeville. A lot of changes were implemented across the board and we are beginning to see the payoff for risking something new and do-

ing something different. Our financial giving was strong and looks to be even stronger this year; our worship attendance is growing, especially at the 9AM service; mem-

bership increased significantly with the addition of 36 new members; the creation of The Table Fellowship, Worship on Wednesdays (WOW) and a renewed focus on

Christian Education is reaching many new people in our community; a successful Confirmation journey and the hiring of a Director of Student Ministries has all had a

huge impact on the mission and ministry of the church and our community is taking notice. Even my colleagues comment, “There is always something going on at your

church!” It makes me proud to be the pastor of a church that is not afraid to step out and step up.

By now you have probably seen or been told about our goals for 2013. They are printed in this copy of the newsletter as well. You will also begin to see them posted

around the church at strategic points and it is my hope and prayer that you will begin to avail yourself of how you can be the best disciple of Jesus Christ in this new year.

How will you exercise radical hospitality? How will you participate in passionate worship? How will you practice intentional faith development? How will you get in-

volved in risk-taking mission and outreach and how will you give extravagantly and generously? How will you best serve God’s kingdom by serving God’s church?

Maybe this will be the year….

God’s blessings upon you and yours! See you in church!

As part of our 150th Birthday Celebration in

October, 2012, Beeville FUMC families

our church family united in the call of Christ

in our community and the world.

If you are new to our congregation or have

not yet brought your family cross, there is

always room for more. The crosses should

be approximately 3 x 5 in. Mark and Debbie

Pastor Larry McRorey and the Stephen Ministry Leadership Team wish to congratulate and welcome David Morgan, George

Schinn, Sandy Benavidez, and Stacey Morrison as the first ever Stephen Minister Trainees at First United Methodist Church,

Beeville. We believe that the ministry these gifted individuals are preparing for is one of the most important in our congregation.

David, George, Sandy, and Stacey will be serving others in Jesus’ name by bringing Christ’s care to those who are hurting. We

thank them for answering this call. Jesus said “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of

my family, you did it to me” (Matthew 25:40 NRSV). What a high privilege it is to serve our loving Lord in this way. Stephen

Minister Training will begin during the second week of January, 2013, and continue for approximately 20 weeks. Your Stephen

Leaders ask the congregation of FUMC to be in constant prayer for both the Ministry Leaders and the Trainees, asking that God

will make us worthy of His call and will fulfill by His power every good resolve and work of faith, according to the grace of our

God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14

First United Methodist Church Beeville

Goals for 2013 Primary Focus on the Five Practices of a Fruitful Congregation

Radical Hospitality – We will strive to continue and strengthen the minis-tries already in place at FUMC. These include 1. The Table Fellowship on the 3

rd Saturday of every month

2. WOW (Worship on Wednesdays) 3. The annual Fall Festival, open to the community 4. The annual Pumpkin Patch, open to the community including schools

and other church groups

Passionate Worship – We will focus ourselves toward reaching the un-churched and the de-churched through relevant worship and work toward a 20% increase in worship attendance in both Sunday morning services.

Intentional Faith Development – We will move toward the creation of new small groups with specific target populations (for example, reaching peo-ple with full time jobs and busy lives through the use of the Right Now in-ternet study series for a more efficient delivery). We are also developing a comprehensive discipleship model with a goal to involve 50% of our mem-bers in small group study.

Risk-Taking Mission Service – We would like to see 10% of our members involved in mission activities outside the physical walls of FUMC (Mission Trips for example), and 25% involved in “in-house” Mission Projects.

Extravagant Generosity – We will examine the Missions Budget of FUMC to ultimately approach 20% in giving outside of the church.

Mission Statement:

First United Methodist Church will fulfill the mission of the Church by expressing God’s love in Jesus Christ through effective, Bible based ministries of worship,

education, service and fellowship that will meet the spiritual needs of God’s peo-ple in our church and community. We will share the joy of our faith and raise the

expectations of each other as disciples of Christ.

This past month of December has been an interest-

ing one.

We began advent with a gospel liturgical text from the Book of Luke (21:25-36)

which consisted of apocalyptic proportions and holding faith.

It has so seemed adamant and important because this month has been a month of

destruction, we saw our middle school get broken into, we have heard whispers a

flurry about the upcoming end of the world via the Mayan apocalypse prediction,

we have felt pain the shooting of Newton.

This has been an interesting time for us and no doubt our fellow friends, have

felt a sense of uncertainty about the future. Maybe this uncertainty is from ques-

tions of the coming to the end of the world, maybe this uncertainty is from the

pain and suffering that they feel that our country has recently felt, maybe we are

starting to realize that we do not control as much as we think and we cannot pro-

tect everything.

We as Christians have faith, hope, and love.

As the gospel text said to begin advent. “Now when these things begin to take

place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

We may not know when exactly our King will return to make things right, but is sooner

than it was yesterday. Let our faith stand out, and redeem a scared community.

I need midwinter registration by the 22th, the earlier the better.

You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14

My name is Nathan Brewer, and I am a local worship musician. Over the past several years God has placed a

passion in my heart for deep, intimate worship. God has given me a vision of a community of believers coming

together to dig deep and seek God’s face in a place that is relaxed, comfortable, inviting, and not restricted by

time constraints. I know that at times it can be challenging to find the spiritual balance between ministering to

the believer and nonbeliever in a Sunday service. That is why the design of this event is geared towards the be-

liever. Please understand, however, that ALL are welcome!

This vision is to facilitate a night where God can take the reins and everyone can come together and worship

through different avenues.

· Music

· Communion

· The Word

· Personal repentance

· Surrendering and leaving things at the foot of the Cross

· Reconciliation and restoration

The night will revolve around music, but there will be areas set up to facilitate each area of ministry that I men-

tioned above. People will be free to sit, stand, sing, and spend time in any of the worship areas as the Spirit

leads. We are surrendering the night to God, praying and expecting Him to really work in the lives of those who

are there in such a way that Beeville would begin to change and bring glory to His Name--breaking down walls,

healing hurts, and bringing restoration to broken relationships.

As I have shared this vision with some of my family and friends, I am encouraged and feel confirmed that God

is saying, “Go. Now.” So with the support of my family and friends, we have been planning and letting God

lead us as we put together this Intimate Night Of Worship—Intimate N.O.W. I would love to see the whole

Greater Beeville area come and worship in one place outside of any single church denomination, but simply as

the body of Christ, therefore we will be using the Beeville Community Center building to hold the event. We

have people involved from several churches in the area, and our desire is that everyone feel welcome. There is

no other agenda other than loving our Abba Father intentionally and intimately.

Friday, January 4th, will be the first of hopefully many more nights like this. We would love to see you and

your congregation there to begin the New Year seeking God together and igniting a passion for Jesus that can't

be contained. We plan on starting at 7 p.m. and continuing in worship as the Spirit leads. Everyone will be free

to come and go as they feel led.

I am not asking for you or your people to commit to anything. What I am asking is simply that you help spread

the word to your congregation and others, and that you prayerfully consider supporting this endeavor with your

presence and helping us bathe the event in prayer.

There is more information online at http://www.facebook.com/IntimateNow. Feel free to contact me for any

additional information or if you would like to be involved. I would love to talk with you if you have any ques-

tions or concerns.
