With a little help from Fun-Bobbys music machine, the relaxing day was beginning to pick up. Looking back on these affairs, most do not re- member the food, the service, and certainly not the beer. They remember the people, the conversations, the music, and the dancing. The highlight then of the picnic I think was the announcement of the top 5 placing groups. (I will now channel my inner Emily.) The announcer welcomed everyone, and called the name of the 5th place club. Bayern Verein Newark, NJ!came across the convention cen- ter sound system. The cheers were festive and we applauded our friends for their accomplish- ments. Then the silence took over as the mem- bers of our team linked arms and the SuperFans braced for the impact. At that moment in the announcing, anything could happen or nothing at all. The announcement came. —AMONG OUR MEMBERS— BY EMILY FRICKER

The summer is almost over (officially Sep-tember 23) and that means kids back to school and vacation time is over and of course September means OKTOBERFEST. I should not say vacation time is over; because our seniors travel all year long and actually so do our other members whatever age. It is actually almost four months since I broke my upper arm near my shoulder and it will never be 100% but I am hoping. I am still going to therapy, am able to take care of myself in most areas, and am hoping for a bright fu-ture. Although the club has not had many events during the summer, our members, the soccer teams and the dancers, have been very busy. Last month’s newsletter had much information about our various teams and now they are preparing for the fall and win-ter months. Our dancers have had a very busy spring and summer preparing for the Gaufest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the Landestreffen in Los Angeles, California. About 40 people attended the Gaufest and about 30 attended the Landestreffen. All had a good time and the photos of the various events are just terrific. Those who attended both traveled through some interesting areas of the USA and I am sure it was a memorable trip. By this time, our new college freshmen along with their fellow older students have begun a new adventure and our younger members will soon be returning to school. We will miss those who are unable to return to us often and we wish all a successful year. Many of our recent college graduates cel-ebrated with parties at their homes with many friends recently. Among them, Andrew Weyershaeuser who graduated from LaSalle University, Michelle Paul graduating from Bloomsburg, Jennifer Lineman from Chestnut Hill College, and Michael Fricker from Temple University. Congratulations to Matt and Michelle Av-rich who recently became parents to a sec-ond daughter, Isabelle Claire. Big sister Gene-vieve promises to teach her all our dances as soon as she is old enough. Congratulations to all! Adelheid Enderle of Philadelphia died on July 9, 2015. She was 91 years old and was born in Europe on May 31 1924. Adelheid was the wife of the late Frank and is survived by her children, Frank and Heidi, their spous-es and six grandchildren. She was born in the

with 16 Couples in Milwaukee As with most Gauverband related events, the attending clubs are invited to perform an “Ehrentanz” at some time over the weekend. The German Hungarians are no exception. The honor dance is both an opportunity to thank the host as well as entertain the attendance with something special from up your sleeve. Our dancers and friends per-formed a favorite, the Inntaler. The following couples performed:

Alex Blank & Kyra Malofiy

Werner Fricker III & Michelle Paul

Bob Walter & Janet Malofiy

Erik Hugel & Allysa Reiter

Eric Schoellkopf & Karina Fricker

Josh Meck & Mikaela Malofiy

Gerard Hugel & Kristen Reiter

Stefan Hugel & Emma Walter

Stevie Paul & Sofi Walter

Paul Ulrich & Lisa Fricker

Michael Fricker & Anna Martini

Nick Walter & Jenn Lineman

John Reiter & Connie Reiter

Dan Galgon & Brianne Galgon

Sasha Malofiy & Nichole Deely

Mike Cramer & Marlene Fricker

It was a wonderful feeling to fill the dance floor on Friday evening of the fest with so many couples. It is a testament to what the people of the club are capable of. I think also that everyone had fun and that is an achieve-ment on its own. We need to thank the friends of ours for their help in this performance. We were hon-ored to have them. Thank you to Eric Schoellkopf and Josh Meck of the Auerhahn Schuhplattler Verein, Erik, Gerard, and Stef-an Hugel of the Schlierachtaler Stamm, and Paul Ulrich of Bayern Verein Newark, NJ. We could not have performed without you. Thanks again for your help and friendship! To all of the dancers, great job and con-gratulations on the weekend’s success! U.S.L.P.A.

—DANCING AROUND— The German Hungarian Cultural & Schuhplattler Groups will be taking part in the following events during the remainder of the year. If any member wishes to have more information about these dates and affairs, feel free to ask any of the dancers when you see them at the club! They will be happy to answer any questions they can, or they will point you in the direction of the person who can answer you. We know from experience that most of them have shining and happy faces and would love to talk to you. Be social, after all we are a social club! —MAJOR DIVISION SCHEDULE—

Sun. Sept. 13—vs. Danubia SC (In GH Stadium)

Sun. Sept. 20—at Montgomery United (Zehr Park | 1235 Stump Rd., North Wales, PA)

German village of Lenauheim in western Banat, Romania and immigrated to the USA in 1950. She worked as a seamstress for many years and was a resident of the Lawndale section of Philadelphia and a mem-ber of the Presentation BVM parish in Chel-tenham for over 50 years. She was also a member of two German social clubs, - the Donauschwaben and the United German Hungarian. Adelheid and her husband en-joyed attending many events at both clubs. They were often seen at our club with their friends enjoying our dinners and dancing together and with their friends. Her funeral mass was held at her church on July 14. We offer our sympathy to her family and we will miss Adelheid as well as Frank. Ingrid Schickling (nee Ertl) of William-stown, NJ died on August 1, 2015. She was the wife of the late Edward who died in April of 2013. They were both members of the BVV Club and attended many BVV events and our events throughout the years. Many of our members probably do not know her name, but if you would see her, you would remember her as a very friendly and attrac-tive woman. She especially enjoyed our dancers. We offer our sympathy to her fami-

ly, friends, and members of the Bavarian Club. Dr. Frank A. Welsch of Doylestown, died on August 8, 2015 after a long and coura-geous battle with cancer. He was 68 years old and was the only child of Frank and Su-sanna Welsch. He was raised in Kensington and worked at his parents Neighborhood Grocery and Meat Market. He attended St. Joseph’s Prep High School and received a degree in chemical engineering from Drexel University. He later enrolled in medical school at the University of Pennsylvania. Frank is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 43 years and his daughter and son and their families. His funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Doylestown. Frank was a well-known and successful physician until retiring in 2014. He was an avid gardener and loved cooking. He was known as “pop-pop” to his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time at Long Beach Island with his family and friends. He lived his life as “a man for oth-ers.” Our members especially the old timers will recognize his parent’s names, especially Susanna Welsch who was a most dedicated member of our club. Our sympathy goes to Frank’s family.
