Rally on Soil Erosion
The NSS units and the NCC wing of TBML College, Porayar, Nagapattinam
district organised an awareness rally to avoid soil erosion by planting trees and to
save the good qualities of soil by using the bio fertilisers. The rally was flagged
off by the principal of the college, Dr. Jones Gunasekaran. The Rally started
from the college campus and ended at New Bus Stand.

Blood Donation and Blood Group Identification Programmes
1. A.V.C. College, Mayiladuthurai
The NSS units of A.V.C. College, Mayiladuthurai and Kali Blood Bank,
Thanjavur, conducted a blood donation camp on 7.7.2014. Principal of the
College, Dr. M. Varadharajan and Lions club president, G. Renganathan presided
over the function. Mr. J. Manikandan, Chairman and Secretary in-charge
felicitated the programme. Dr. S. Subulakshmi of Kali blood bank and her team
offered the technical assistance and helped in the smooth conduct of the camp.
Dr. A. Arokiyaraj, NSS Programme Officer, Dr. Rajan Babu, Coordinator, Leo
Club of A.V.C. College, Senthilli Nayagam Librarian, Dr. S. Asokan Controller of
Examinations, NSS Programme Officers, Dr. S. Mayilvaganan, Karthikeyan,
Morthy, Elavarasi and others were present on the occasion. 150 NSS Volunteers
donated 150 units of blood and Blood grouping was done for 1000 students
during the camp.

The NSS units of A.V.C. College, conducted another blood donation camp
on 9.7.2014 in association with Lions Club and Leo Club. About 100 units of
blood were collected from as many NSS Volunteers during the camp. Dr. M.
Varadharajan, Principal of the college inaugurated the camp in the presence of
Mr. J. Manikandan, Chairman & Secretary of the College, Mr. G Renganathan,
President, Leo Club, Dr. K. Senthilnayagam, Secretary, Lions Club, Mr. P.
Paramasivam, Treasurer, Lions club, Dr. R. Rajan Babu, Coordinator Leo Club,
Dr. A. Arockiyaraj, NSS Programme Officer.

2. Special Medical Camp Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Special Medical Camp was organised by the
Health Department on 12.07.2014 at R.C. Middle School, Patavarthi of Kuttlam
Taluk. Mr. D. Munusamy, District Collector, Nagapattinam presided over while
Mr. K.A. Jayapal, Minister for Fisheries, Tamil Nadu inaugurated the special
camp. Twenty NSS volunteers of A.V.C. College, Mayiladuthurai participated in
the Special Medical Camp held and donated 7 units of blood during the medical
camp.
3. A.R.C. Visvanathan College, Mayiladuthurai
The NSS units of ARC Visvanathan College, Mayiladuthurai in association
with JCI Club organised a blood group identification and blood donation camp on
17th July 2014. Dr. N. Sathiyabama, Principal of the college inaugurated the
camp. Blood group identification was done for all the I year students admitted in
the college and 26 units of blood were donated during the camp. Dr. Selvam,
Doctor, Govt. Medical College, Tiruvarur along with his team conducted the
camp. NSS Programme Officers, JCI Coordinator, Rotary Club Coordinator and
Professors were present during the event.

4. Holy Cross College, Trichy
The NSS and NCC wing of Holy Cross College, Trichy jointly with Doctor’s
Diagnostic Research Centre and Blood Bank, Trichy organised a blood donation
camp on 18th July, 2014. The guests of honour, Dr. Jesuin Francis, Principal
Holy Cross College, Trichy and Dr. L. Ganesan, NSS Coordinator, Bharathidasan
University spoke on the importance of donating blood and of creating awareness
among students. Nearly 110 NSS Volunteers registered themselves to donate,
but only 58 students and staff donated. A Team of medical personnel with Dr.
Uma Maheswari from the Doctor’s Diagnostic Centre were present.
5. Srinivasan College of Arts & Science, Perambalur
The NSS units of Srinivasan College of Arts & Science, Perambalur in
association with the Departments of Microbiology and Biotechnology organised
the blood group identification camp on 18.07.2014. Dr. G. Vadivalagan,
Principal of the college inaugurated the camp. Blood group was identified for
around 650 I year students. The camp was organised by the NSS Programme
Officers, Mr. Saravanan, Ms. Yogeswari, Mr. Karthikeyan and Mr. Mohanraj.

6. TBML College, Porayar
The NSS units of TBML College, Porayar in association with the Youth Red
Cross, Porayar and Lions Club organised a blood group identification and blood
donation programme on 30.07.2014. Dr. S. Gnana Soundari, Doctor, Blood
bank, Government Headquarters Hospital, Nagapattinam along with her team
conducted the blood group identification and blood donation programme for the
college students. Dr. Jones Gunasekaran, Principal of the college inaugurated
the programme. Blood group identification was done for 300 students and 63
units of blood were donated to the blood bank. The NSS Programme Officers, Mr.
G.V. Pandiyan, Mr. J. Selvaraj and Mrs. Breeta Jasmine organised the
programme. Mr. D. Devadass, president, Lions Club was also present in the
programme.

The NSS team of the TBML College was appreciated and felicitated by the
District Health Department for organising the Voluntary Blood donation
programme with the District Blood Bank to save the dying patients. The NSS
Programme Officer Mr. J. Selvaraj received the appreciation certificate from
Dr. Sampath Kumar, Joint Director, Health Department, Nagapattinam on
31st July 2014.

7. TUK Arts College, Thanjavur
The NSS units of TUK Arts college, Thanjavur in association with Govt.
Rajamirasudhar Blood bank, Thanjavur organised a voluntary blood donation
camp on 07th August 2014 at the college campus. Dr. R. Rajamani, Principal of
the college inaugurated the camp. About 61 NSS Volunteers from various
departments donated their blood during the camp.
8. Thanthai Hans Roever College, Perambalur
The NSS and RRC wing of Thanthai Hans Rover College, Perambalur in
association with the Nehru Yuva Kendra organised a blood donation camp on
14th August 2014 in the college campus. Dr. K. Varadharajan, Chairman of the
Roever Educational Institutions and Dr. V. Ayothi, Principal of the college
inaugurated the camp. About 42 units of blood were donated to the Govt. Blood
bank, Perambalur. Certificates were presented to the donors.

9. D.G. Govt. Arts College for Women, Mayiladuthurai
The NSS units of D.G. Govt. Arts College for Women, Mayiladuthurai
organised an awareness programme on Blood Donation on 16th July 2014. Dr. G.
Hemalatha, Principal of the college presided over the function while Lion. M.
Kannan was the chief guest for the programme. He emphasized about the
importance of blood donation, blood groups, etc to the college students.
10. Meenakshi Chandrasekaran College of Arts & Science, Pattukottai
Blood Group Identification Programme was conducted by the NSS units of
Meenakshi Chandrasekaran College of Arts & Science, Pattukkottai, Thanjavur
district on 31.07.2014. Mrs. S. Sheela, Vice-Principal of the college presided over
the programme in the presence of Prof. C. Sivajothinathan. NSS Programme
Officers, Ms. S. Saranya, Ms. M. Karthika and Ms. M. Sathya along with the
department of Microbiology organised the programme for the college students.

Tree Plantation Programmes
1. A.V.C. College, Mayiladuthurai
The NSS unit of A.V.C College conducted a Tree plantation programme on
17.7.14 on the theme “Green Campus”. Dr. M. Varadharajan, Principal of the
college presided over the function. Mr. J. Manikandan, Chairman and Secretary
in-charge felicitated the programme. Mr. M. Mahakrishan ESHT, Director, Forest
Department, Tiruchampalli-Sembanarkoil delivered the special address. Dr. A.
Arokiyaraj, NSS Programme Officer welcomed the gathering. Dr. S.
Mayilvaganan, Programme Officer proposed the Vote of Thanks. Librarian
Senthil Nayagam, Programme Officers, Kartikeyan, Morthy, and Elavarasi were
present. The NSS Volunteers were involved and planted around 500 saplings in
and around the college campus. The planted saplings were donated by the
Forest Department, Thiruchampalli-Sembanarkoil.

2. A.R.C. Visvanathan College, Mayiladuthurai
The NSS units of A.R.C. Visvanathan College, Mayiladuthurai in
association with the Rotary Club organised a Tree Plantation Programme on 18th

July 2014. About 50 saplings were planted in the college campus and in the
adopted villages. Dr. N. Sathyabama, Principal of the college inaugurated the
programme. The Saplings were donated by the Rotary Club. Total of 50 NSS
Volunteers participated in the programme.

3. BDU Constituent College, Lalgudi
The NSS units of Bharathidasan University Constituent College, Lalgudi,
Trichy district organised a tree plantation programme on 25th July 2014. NSS
Programme Officer, Dr. R. Jaisankar and Dr. T. Ashok, Dr. R. Gunasundari, Mr.
Augustine Christopher spoke about the importance of tree plantation. NSS
Volunteers planted 15 tree saplings during the programme.
4. D.G. Govt. Arts College for Women, Mayiladuthurai
The NSS Units of D.G. Govt. Arts College for Women, Mayiladuthurai,
Nagapattinam district organised a tree plantation programme on 7th July 2014 in
the college premises. Dr. Bernis Benett, Principal (i/c) of the college inaugurated
the programme. Around 25 saplings were planted by the NSS Volunteers in the
college premises.

The NSS units of Chidambaram Pillai College for Women, Manachanallur,
Trichy district organised a legal awareness programme for the college students on
17th July 2014 at the college premises. Ms. Gomathi, Lawyer from the Trichy
Court delivered a special address to create awareness about among the college
girls. She pointed out about the important laws such as the Right to Education,
Right to Property, Marriage Act, etc. Dr. K. Sekar, Principal of the College
welcomed the gathering. NSS Programme Officers, Ms. Akilandeswari, Ms.
Senthil Kumari, Ms. Suganya, Ms. Nivetha and Ms. Sarala organised the
programme.
Eye Camp
An eye camp was organised by the NSS units of Cauvery College for
Women, Trichy joining hands with Vasan Eye Care Hospital on 25.07.2014. Dr.

M. Javid Hussain, M.S.D.O of Vasan Eye Care Hospital, Annamalai Nagar, Trichy
diagnosed the first year students and staff to check their eyes for any disorder.
The doctor and his team examined the eyes of the student and gave a follow of
prescription for wearing spectacles.
Inauguration of NSS Activities
1. Cauvery College for Women, Trichy
The first year students of Cauvery College for Women, Trichy had their
orientation on NSS so that they receive a holistic approach on serving humanity
and stretching their hands to the downtrodden ones. The objective of this
orientation is to enhance the personality level of the students and to live by the
NSS motto “NOT ME BUT YOU”.
The Principal of the College Dr. V. Sujatha welcomed the gathering and
motivated the students to take up the responsibilities by giving a new life to the
helpless ones who need help. The President of the College Governing Council Mr.
R. Murugan in his Presidential Address urged the students to be more conscious
of the needy ones in the village and in the society. He stressed the fact that the
students must first identify the feeble and the frail ones around one and serve
them who need help. The Treasurer of the College, Mr. R. Gopinathan offered
felicitations and entrusted the students to play an active role in the Special Camp
by setting up new goals to change for a better environment.
The Chief Guest of the day Dr. L. Ganesan, NSS Coordinator of
Bharathidasan University in his keynote address lauded the volunteers’ efforts of
reaching higher levels in NSS in the Trichy city. He expressed the fact that the
new students must come out their shell and work for the upliftment of the society
giving a new lease of life to the helpless ones. In his Keynote Address, the Chief

Guest Dr. L. Ganesan felt that service to man should not be seen to others but
done out of love.
The five NSS Programme Officers Mrs. Agansia, Dr. A.R. Gomathi, Mrs. A.
Sahaya Jenitha, Mrs. M. Neela and Mrs. Rita Shanthakumar took care of the
units in order to orient the students on NSS and gave information on the NSS
symbol, motto and the aim of NSS to 250 new volunteers.

on 30th July 2014. It was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Sr. Jesuin Francis, Principal,
Holy Cross College, Trichy and Dr. L. Ganesan, NSS Programme Coordinator,
Bharathidasan University. Dr. L. Ganesan spoke about the importance of NSS
and how it gives a way to the students to be one with the society. The students
also took oath by promising that they will do their duties well. The Inauguration
was ended with a vote of thanks.

3. Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Trichy
The inauguration of NSS activities of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Trichy
was held on 9th August 2014 in the college campus. Dr. L. Ganesan, NSS
Coordinator of Bharathidasan University was the chief guest for the programme.
He spoke about the vision, mission and the motto of National Service Scheme in
the presence of Dr. S. Vidhyalakshmi, Principal of the college.

ToT on Youth Employability Skills by RGNIYD
The Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD),
Sriperumbudur is organising a 5 days Training of Trainers Programme on Youth
Employability Skills for NSS Volunteers from 21st to 25th July 2014 at RGNIYD,
Sriperumbudur. This training was to impart employability skills to the youth to
prepare themselves to face the emerging challenges in the job market.
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University deputed 20 NSS Volunteers
(10 male & 10 female) for attending this training programme as per the
requirement of the organisers.

Health & Sanitation Programme
An awareness programme about the Health & Sanitation was conducted by
the NSS units of Chidambaram Pillai College for Women, Manachanallur, Trichy
district on 31st July 2014. Prof. U. Sivapriya, Head, Department of Social Work
of the college mentioned about the importance of the maintaining good health
and sanitation especially in their Menstruation days. Dr. K. Sekar, Principal of
the college offered felicitations. The 5 NSS Programme Officers of the college
jointly organised the programme. All the NSS Volunteers participated in the
programme.

NSS Coordinators Meeting
NSS Programme Coordinators meeting was convened by the NSS State
Liaison Officer of Tamil Nadu, Mr. S. Rajasekaran on 5th August 2014 at the
SLO’s Chamber, Directorate of Collegiate Education, Chennai. The NSS
Coordinator of Bharathidasan University, Dr. L. Ganesan attended the meeting.

Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme
An Anti – Ragging Awareness Programme was conducted on 07.08.2014 by
the Chidambaram Pillai College for Women, Manachanallur, Trichy in the college
premises. The Head, Department of Social Work, Prof. Sivapriya addressed the
students accompanied by a power point presentation. She appraised the students
about the penalty of 10,000/- and imprisonment for those indulging in these
activities and also told about its ill-effects. The students of NSS numbering 100
attended the programme and were felicitated by Dr. K. Sekar, Principal of the
college. The Students had benefitted from this programme and cleared their
doubts with the speaker.

Muthukumar was the chief guest for the programme. Dr. L. Ganesan, RRC
Coordinator (i/c) welcomed the gathering. Mr. P. Madhavan, District Programme
Manager, Thanjavur briefly explained about the Red Ribbon Club objectives and
the motto of this Programme.
Dr. V.M. Muthukumar, Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University
released the RRC Manual & RRC CD and delivered the presidential address.
During his address he said that the RRC is doing a major contribution to the
society in creating awareness about HIV and AIDS especially among the youth.
He appreciated the NSS & RRC Volunteers for their community work during their
education. He also said that the NSS & RRC volunteers will be the good citizens
of the country undoubtedly.
Dr. G. Ramesh, Syndicate Member of Bharathidasan University received
the first copy of the RRC Manual and delivered the Keynote address. Mr. R.
Selvanayagam, Syndicate Member of Bharathidasan University received the first
copy of the RRC CD and offered felicitations. Mrs. M. Neela, RRC Programme
Officer of Cauvery College for Women, Trichy proposed the Vote of Thanks.
110 RRC Programme Officers and more than 220 RRC Volunteers as Peer
Educators from RRC implementing colleges in 8 districts under the jurisdiction of
Bharathidasan University were participated in the programme. This programme
was coordinated by the Dr. L. Ganesan, RRC Coordinator of Bharathidasan
University.
During the Technical Session Mr. D. Gopalakrishnan, District Programme
Manager, Pudukkottai spoke about “History of HIV/AIDS & HIV Programmes in
India & Tamil Nadu”, Mr. R. Senthil Kumar, District Programme Manager, Trichy
delivered a talk about “Present Status of HIV/AIDS in India & Tamil Nadu and
RRC Implementation” and Mr. P. Madhavan, District Programme Manager,
Thanjavur spoke about “Celebrating Life”. The participants were raised many
questions and clarifications and that was cleared by the RRC Coordinator.

Eye Testing Camp
The NSS unit of Christhu Raj College, Panjappur, Trichy conducted a one
day eye camp on 14.08.2014 on the college. Dr. Ramesh and Dr. R. Meenakumari
of Mahatma Eye Hospital, Tennur, Trichy. Together with a few Para medical staff
screened 46 professors and 500 students for vision test. Error in the vision was
detected for 20 students and were diagnosed with defective vision, suitable
counselling was provided. The one day eye camp was inaugurated by Dr.
Sivakumar, Principal of the college. All the college students welcomed this
programme.
Independence Day Celebrations
The 68th Independence Day was celebrated in a grand manner in
Bharathidasan University. Dr. V.M. Muthukumar, Vice-Chancellor hoisted the
national tri-colour flag on 15th August 2014 in the university campus. NSS

Personality Development and Career Planning
The NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University organised a one day seminar on
Personality Development & Career Planning in association with Learning
Compass Private Limited, Bangalore on 19th August 2014 (Tuesday). Around 120
NSS volunteers and NSS Programme Officers from various colleges of Trichy
district participated in the seminar.
Learning Compass Private Limited is a Learning & Development company
formed by a group of highly skilled professionals, led by Mr. Rohit Sinha, CEO.
The company, with its corporate office in Bangalore, specializes in skill based
training to enhance the employability of students and corporate professionals.
Dr. M. Daniel, Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of
Bharathidasan University presided over and delivered the chief guest address on
the occasion. He enlightened the students with his speech which emphasized the
need to focus on career building. He emphasized on the application of education
in the real world. He also threw light on the evolution of education system from
teacher centric to learner centric. He stress on the fact that now the knowledge
that students require can be effectively accessed or gained through internet and
other media, which help the students to enhance their employability.
Mr. Rohit Sinha then delivered the keynote address, in which he educated
the participants about the dynamic job market scenario and the importance of
skill building. He emphasized on the fact that in the current customer oriented
industry, communication, presentation and inter-personal skills play a key role
in building a successful career. He elaborated on how changes in market
conditions impact hiring pattern and industry expectation on fresh graduates.
He also encouraged students to start early on their career plan and take learning
as a continuous process.
The seminar included three highly interactive and activity driven sessions
on the main theme of the programme, specially designed for the benefit of the
participants. The seminar ended on a high note with students expressing
immense gratitude for the wonderful event and the awareness it created in them
about employability. The participants were briefed on factors to choose the right

career for them. They were made aware of innumerable fields which provide a
stable career options as well as different job opportunities arising in private as
well as government sector. There were made to participate in mock group
discussion and mock interviews.

Jamal Mohamed College, Trichy proposed the Vote of Thanks. The other

Joseph, Business Operations Manager (Tamil Nadu Region) and Mr. Deepak
Kumar Patro (Lead Trainer), all from Learning Compass.
