BUSINESS ACTIVITY
President Roger Gregory opened the meeting. Debbie Roessler offered an amusing invocation on common sense and led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Our guests included Marilyn Simonsen and our speakers for today, Erica Kolmeister and Andy Hashimi.
We were also joined, from the Rotary Club of Dixon, District 5160 Governor for 2015-16, Ken Courville.
Also, from the Rotary Club of Berkeley, District Governor for 2016-17, Fred Collignon.
And, from the Rotary Club of Danville, District Governor for 2017-18, Gary Vilhauer and his wife, Leslie.. Finally finally,our esteemed Assistant District Governor, Mark Roberts

Announcements from President Roger:
Planning is going well for the OMPA Swim Meet
project on August 7th through the 9th. Thank you
to all members and friends who have agreed to
help us out. There are still a few wrinkles to iron
out but we are looking forward to a successful
event. Send a note or call Frank May if you
would like to join us on this great community
activity.
TGIF Social to Be Held at the Home of Marv
and Joyce Ellenberg on Friday, July 31st.
Joyce and Marv are hosting this social event on
Friday, 7/31 from 6 PM until around twilight!!
There home is at 300 Constance Place, Moraga.
Please bring whatever you would like to drink as
well as an hors d’ oeuvre to share!! This is a
great way to meet new Rotarian friends, socialize
with old friends and enjoy a relaxing summer
evening!!
RECOGNITIONS AND HAPPY BUCKS President Roger recognized Jim Campbell
who celebrated his birthday on July 6th. He and
Linda enjoyed several days on the North Coast
that included a birthday dinner at the Little River
Inn.
Evie Michon offered a Happy Buck for receiving
her red badge last week. She said she felt she
was wearing a “2nd In Show” red ribbon.
Evie’s grandson had asked her whether she had
received a “fez” when she joined Rotary?
President Roger heard about this and awarded
Evie with her official Rotary Fez pictured below!!

Peter Metzger offered a Happy Buck for being
both back in the country and at a Rotary Meeting.
Dick Vance offered a Buck for surviving the
earthquake in the east bay this morning.
Fred Collignon was happy a plan authored by
his daughter is being used by both New York City
and the Vatican – Wow, an advisor to the pope!!
Al Simonsen offered Happy Bucks for the
successful operation on his foot (he will be laid
up for six weeks) He also thanked John
Erickson for staying at the Soda Center to get
folks to the new meeting location today.
Marv Ellenberg was ten bucks happy
celebrating his mother-in-laws 100th
birthday.(which was today). She is a Rotarian
and belonged to Oakland Club number 3. He
also mentioned that his brother-in-law, Charles
Ericson, was a past member of Moraga Rotary.
Mark Roberts was asked to select the raffle
winner this week. Before selecting the lucky
winner, he thanked the club, and specifically
President Rajah, for our support of the Crutches
for Africa Project.

Barbara Bruner was the lottery winner. She
received just $10 as the white marble eluded her.

PROGRAM
Our speakers today were Erica Kolmeister and
Andy Hahimi from Lighthouse Professional
Placement. They were introduced by Debbie
Roessler who had met Erica when seeking care
and support for her mother. Debbie found their
services to be invaluable in helping her
determine the best plan for her mother and
family.

Lighthouse Professional Placement works
with families to find the right senior care facilities
for their loved one. Erica talked about how she
works with families to develop a care plan that
takes into account the person and their interests
as well as attempt to stay within the family
budget.
Andy discussed their ability to work within a
hospice setting as well as supporting residents
with dementia problems.
Lighthouse Professional Placement is available
24/7 365 days a year to assist families when
problems occur. Support can often be offered on
the same day. They pre-screen facilities to make
sure that quality services are offered.
Erica also talked about offering connections to
Veteran’s resources as well as support for
younger patients requiring residential care.
Other Community Happenings
2015 Moraga Night Out, is an event designed to
bring neighbors together to discuss emergency
preparedness, is on Tuesday August 4.
Friends of the Moraga Adobe (which is actually
in Orinda) are holding “Fantastic Fandango”
fundraiser to preserve and renovate this historic
structure, on Saturday August 29 at Wilder.

Botanica; all things plant life, a juried art
exhibit at the Bedford Gallery in the Lesher
Center in Walnut Creek opened last Sunday. It
runs through Sept 6 and includes a scanograph
by Carol Irwin. www.bedfordgallery.com
FAB 5 Rotary Club Sponsored Veterans
Celebration Concert
Last Saturday evening the Fab Five Rotary
Clubs sponsored a great, free concert at the
Lafayette Reservoir. Three solid hours of
entertainment with the “Swing’in Blue Stars
(think Andrews Sisters),” “The Big Band of
Rossmoor” with Mo Levich (a Lafayette
Rotarian), and a special guest appearance by
Mic Gillette (formerly of “Tower of Power,
opener for Carlos Santana, performed with
Creedence Clearwater Revival and many other
musical groups.) The weather was perfect and a
crowd of about 250 picnicked and listened from
5 til twilight. Our club was represented by
Debbie & Lou Roessler, Frank May, Tony
Schoemehl, and Roger & Jan Gregory. Our
Moraga Rotary banner was prominently
displayed along with Lafayette, Orinda,
Lamorinda Sunrise and Rossmoor.
