THE EDITORS COMMENTSThe other day I was thinking that I ve been attending aRotary meeting every week for the past 56 years and that Ihave heard some amazing speakers. Many of the speakerswere on topics in which I had a real interest, and quite a fewon subjects about which I knew absolutely nothing. Somewere great speakers, some just so-so, and a few just filledthe time. But the significant thing is how much you really canlearn each week about the work other people do, or hearabout an interesting subject or a different viewpoint aboutwhich you may have never given a thought. This line of thinking came to me when I recently read a quotewhich said: Listen to everyone and you will learn every time;because nobody knows everything and everybody knowssomething. That sounds like some of our Rotary speakers.Without a question, the toughest job in any Rotary Club isserving as the Program Chairman who tries to line up afascinating and interesting speaker every week. Our Club isvery fortunate in the fact that we attract some excellentprograms. But even the best Chairman eventually runs out of personal

friends who have interesting careers or have amazing storiesor accomplishments. So, it is important for all the Clubmembers to be alert to possible speakers or topics tosuggest to our Program Chairman, Colin Barnard. Often, some of our members have interesting stories to tell andthey provide some of our finest programs. I have nointention of opening a hardware store, but I d be interested inhearing John or Mary Sue Erickson tell a few stories ofunusual products customers want, or strange customers oreven a shop-lifter or two! What tales could TonySchoemehl or Al Simonsen share about weird passengerrequests, favorite world destinations or maybe even a scaryflight during their pilot days? Could Angelo Costanzarelate

a few experiences from his years before the Judgedefending his always innocent defendants? The point isthere must be many unusual programs right within our club,so why not step forward and share your story with MoragaRotary.

At the same time, suggest names of people you think haveinteresting experiences to relate, or even just propose atopic which might provide a worthwhile program. Everyoneis really a member of the Program Committee!

RECOMMEND AN EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTHDo you realize that 25 people who work in Moraga habeen honored as the Employee of the Month in the pasyears? It has been interesting to see the variety of busineand professional groups which have been recognized by oclub in cooperation with theMoraga Chamber of CommercHowever, there are many other exceptional employees wcould be selected as Employee of the Month, if they we

merely nominated. It is not a difficult task. Just get tnomination form from Kevin Reneau and fill it out. I cassure you that all of the previous recipients were vepleased that someone took the time to submit their namYou will be appreciated, too.

made special cash contributions; some filled tables withfriends; many bought auction items; some set updecorations; some did the clean-up work; some handledthe printing; some collected the money; some conductedthe Races; Interact and Rotaract kids helped out; anauctioneer added some fun; Polio and Shelter Boxeswere great causes; and we all approached the event as afundraiser not just as another activity!
