WEEKLY WISDOM

St. JudeSt. Jude is also known as Thaddaus, so not to be confused with Judas Iscariot, the man that betrayed Jesus. There is a school of thought that few Christians prayed to St. Jude for fear of accidentally praying to Jesus’ betrayer, Judas Iscariot. The ignored St. Jude became quite eager to assist anyone who sought his help to the point of interceding in the most dire circumstances. St. Jude is the patron saint of lost causes and desperate situations. St. Jude is a respite for the faithful as they persevere in an environment of harsh and difficult circumstances. St. Jude is the patron saint of the Chicago Police Department, Club De Regatas De Flamengo (a soccer team), and many hospitals including St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Saint Jude as the patron Saint of lost causes also can be looked on as an avenue of hope. This prayer from the Dominican Shrine of St. Jude Dominican Friars can give some peace during this current pandemic and the challenges we are all facing during this time, and give us hope that it will end soon!

Most holy Apostle, Saint Jude Thaddeus, friend of Jesus, I place myself in your care at this difficult time. Help me know that I need not face my troubles alone. Please join me in my need, asking God to send me: consolation in my sorrow, courage in my fear, and healing in the midst of my suffering. Ask our loving Lord to fill me with the grace to accept whatever may lie ahead for me and my loved ones, and to strengthen my faith in God’s healing powers. Thank you, Saint Jude Thaddeus, for the promise of hope you hold out to all who believe, and inspire me to give this gift of hope to others as it has been given to me.

THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER APRIL 26, 2020

2020 Annual Diocesan Appeal:Building Our Family of Faith

In honor of this landmark year for our Diocese, Bishop Knestout has announced a special Bicentennial Challenge to raise $5 million through this year’s Annual Appeal. To date, 74 families have donated $28,460.00 toward our goal of $58,760.00, putting us at 48.43% of our target. If you have already made your 2020 Appeal gift, please accept our gratitude for your commitment.Reaching this challenge will allow the Diocese to fund three key priorities: the education of our youth, care for our elderly poor, and support for our mission parishes. In addition, this success will flow back to all parishes and provide significant boosts to all the ministries supported by the Appeal. It is with these goals in mind that we hope our parishioners will join with us this year in making a pledge to the Appeal to help us launch our Diocese into the next 200 years.

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYER:My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

PRAYER LINE PHONE TREE MINISTRY: Holy Family has a Prayer Line Ministry which consists of a phone tree that is used to pass on critical situations which are in need of prayer. If you or a family member or a loved one are in need of prayer, please call the Parish Office at 481-5702, and ask to be put on the Prayer Line Phone Tree. If you would like, please share a little about your critical situation that needs prayer. If you have asked to be on the Prayer Line Phone Tree and prayers have been answered, let us know so that we can pass on a “Praise Report.”“Whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you receive it, and you will.” ~ Mark 11: 24

“CREATION CARE CORNER:”Several weeks prior to the Corona virus shutdowns, a few members of the Environmental Committee paid a visit to the TFC Recycling Processing Plant to inquire about what types of items can be recycled. Here’s some of the information they passed on.• All clean paper and cardboard and wax cartons can be

recycled. Clean paper and cardboard exclude hardbound books, pizza boxes, paper coffee cups, paper plates, Kleenex type tissue, or toilet paper. In general, items with glue, food, grease, or other deleterious substances are excluded.

• Shredded paper can be recycled if it is in a paper bag. The top of the bag can be stapled to prevent opening.

• Plastic pourable bottles numbered 1-7 that have been rinsed out, and lids can be recycled, either on or off the bottle. This excludes yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. plastic containers, plastic bags, pill bottles, K-Cups, bubble wrap, ziploc, dry cleaning bags, or dispensing pumps. Plastic grocery bags can be recycled at most Harris Teeter, Food Lion, or Kroger stores.

• Steel and aluminum cans can be recycled if empty. This excludes all other forms of steel and aluminum, which should be taken to the scrap yard.

• Glass bottles can be recycled from households only. There is not a market for recycled glass, and most of it winds up at the landfill.

• Here are some items other that should not be placed in the recycle bins.

• Wood items• Aerosol cans (these should be saved for hazardous waste

collections)• Styrofoam, and styrofoam food containers including

clamshells• Do not put items into bags for recycling. Other than shredded

paper, items should be loose in the recycle bin.Glenn Rodriguez – Holy Family Environmental Ministry

SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING“CREATION CARE CORNER:”Dear Parishioners, The Parish Environmental Ministry’s weekly articles about the environment will not be published anymore in the bulletin after the April 25/26 issue, until our Bishop allows us to gather again as a community to engage in church activities. We thank you for your faithful reading of our articles and your encouragement through the positive comments you have given us.Currently, our attention is fastened on the Covid-19 pandemic, and rightly so! Everyone is being affected in one way or another here in the present! However, let’s not become numb about the climate change crisis, which has not yet reached the stage of a pandemic. Climate change is a much slower threat to human life, but a much more destructive one. The crisis of climate change that we have been dealing with is a much more serious and much more lasting threat to life on our planet. So, do not relax your efforts to diminish your carbon footprint as you are struggling with the caronavirus’ effects. The health of our Earth is still a major concern.Thank you,The Parish Environmental Ministry
