Twomonthsinto2017anditalreadyhasbeenanextremelyunprecedentedandnervouslyexcitingtimeinourcountry.AswepreparetoenterintotheseasonofLentweareremindedofwhenMaryandJosephbroughttheinfantJesustothetempleandthewordsspokentoMarybySimeon:"ThisChildisappointedforthefallandriseofmany,"Luke2:34,andthesecond,:"Andaswordwillpierceevenyourownsoul"Luke2:35.Lent,knownasthe“GreatFast”inRussianChristianity,isaseasonoffortydays,notcountingSundays,

beginningonAshWednesdayandendingonHolySaturday.Lentcomesfromthewordmeaning“spring,”andistheseasonofpreparationforEaster.Itwasandisatimewhenpersonswhohadseparatedthemselvesfromthecommunityoffaithwerereconciledbyrepentanceandforgiveness,andrestoredtofullparticipationinthelifeoftheChurch.InthiswaythewholecongregationwasremindedofthemercyandforgivenessproclaimedinthegospelofJesusChrist,andtheneedweallhavetorenewourfaith.Tothatend,wewillbeginourLentenjourneyincommunity,sharingtheMarch1,AshWednesdayServices,withRev.StephenRickettsandtheLinganoreUMCcongregation,noontimeatProspectand7:30p.m.atLinganore.Thisbeginsourtimeofself-examination,fasting,andprayer,inanticipationofthecelebrationof

Easter.Fastingisaperiodoftimewhichapersonabstainsfromsomethingintheirdailylifeinexchangeforaspiritualpurpose.AllthroughoutLentwewillobserveaNegativityFast.OurscriptureofreferenceisPhilippians4:13“IcandoallthingsthroughChristwhostrengthensme.”Duringthisfast,everyonewillreceiveabandtowearasadailyreminderofourfast.Youmaybeasking,whatisaNegativityFast?Afastcanbeabstainingfromfoodorotherthingsinourlivesthatweneedtoaddressbesidesfood.Wemaynotalwaysbeawareofthepoorhabitsthathavebecomeapartofusuntilwepauseandreflectonwhoweare.Itisthenthatwemaybegintoseeourselvesmoreclearly.Weneedtotrytoreplaceunhealthyhabitswithhealthierones,likegettingridofnegativity,grudges,apathy,bitterness,envy,self-pity,andanyotherattributeswhichcanleadtobothourphysicalandspiritualdeath.IinviteeachofyoutoobservethisholyLentenseasonwithself-examinationandrepentance;prayer,fasting,andreadingandmeditatingonGod’sHolyWord.AswethenpreparetoenterintoHolyWeek/PassionWeekwhichbeginsonPalmSunday,April9th,weobservethe“GreatThreeDays”fromsunsetHolyThursdaythroughsunsetEasterDay.ThesedaysaretheclimaxofLentandabridgeintotheEasterSeason,atimethatproclaimsthemysteryofJesusChrist’spassion,death,andresurrection.

OnMaundyThursdaywewillworshipwithLinganoreat7:30pmatProspect.OnGoodFridaywewillworshipasacommunitywithLinganoreandothersurroundingchurchesat7:30pmatLinganore.OnHolySaturdayProspectwillbeopenfrom10am-noon,MarvinChapelwillbeopenfrom1-3pmforyoutodrop-inandprayandrememberyourbaptism.Cometoeitherchurchatatimethatworksforyou.YoucanprayinsolitudeorIwillbetheretopraywithorforyou.Stayafewminutesorforawhile,it’suptoyou.IencourageeachofyounottojustcelebratePalmSundayandEasterSunday,buttocomeasacommunityandjourneywithJesusfromtheupperroom,tothecross,tothetomb,andtothegarden.ThenwecantrulysaywithconvictiononEastermorning,“CHRISTHASRISEN,CHRISTHASRISENINDEED!Andfinally,pleaseplantojoinusatourJointWorship,April30thatMarvinChapelat10:00a.m.tocelebratethewomenofourtwoUnitedMethodistChurcheswiththetheme,EmpowerUsOLord.Weareawaitingconfirmationfromaspecialguestspeakerandotherexcitingthingsareplannedforthatservice-youwon’twanttomissit.Moredetailswillbemadeavailableastheyareconfirmed.Beblessedandencouragedaswejourneytogether.Pastor Lorraine

SpringinFebruaryisamazing!!MotherNaturehasbeenverykindtousherethiswinter.In1Corinthians14:1scripturesaysPursueLoveanddesirespiritualgifts.Hewhoprophesiesedifiesthechurch.Weprovideaservicetothecommunitytohelpthoseinneed.ManycustomerswhohaveshoppedtheThriftStoreforyearshavebecomefriendsofthechurch,alltotheglorificationofGod.PleasemarkyourcalendarforMarch27thUMWmeetingwhereinbothchurchesareencouragedtoattend.Dinnerwillbeservedat6:00followingthemeeting.OnApril30thaspecialservicewillbeheldatMarvinChapel!Therewillbeaguestspeaker.LookingforwardtoseeingeveryoneinMarch.GodBless.

ProspectTrusteesReport2017hasbegunwithmanyprojectsfortheTrustees.1.Our2016windowreplacementprojecthasbeencompletedandwearenowinvestigatingreplacementoftheEducationalBuildingoutsideentrance.2.Wehavealsobeenworkingonthesanctuaryrooftoreplacemissingshinglesandmakingsureanylooseshinglesaretackeddown.3.Wewillbeworkingonawaterleakinthehallwaytotherestroomareainthesocialhall.4.Wehavesignedacontracttoreplacethelightingintheparkinglotleadingtoboththesanctuaryandthehall.ThenewLEDlightingisabigstepforwardtosolveproblemswehavehadinthatarea.5.Wehaveinstalledmotiondetectionlightinginseveralareaswithinthechurch.
