All money raised is given to the Children’s Society. During the year we have had few fund raising events as we no longer have a team to organise such events, other than members of the DCC and recruited helpers. This year we were very grateful to a donor who gave her sponsored run money to St. Paul’s. Obviously to maintain the church there is always a programme of repair and upkeep and if anyone would like to have a fund raising event it would be much appreciated. We would like to again welcome everyone to our special Christmas events and it is an opportunity for new villagers to come and see our lovely church. Our thanks go to Jim Moncaster and Alan Clapman for all the time they put in as church wardens, not to mention their wives who help in various ways. The music from Gwenda and Terry for his technical support and Philip and Sue Robinson our treasurer and secretary. Unseen but leaving beautiful floral displays a huge thanks to Joanne Holmes. Without our readers Sue Ritchie & Mary Cooney supporting our vicar Mike many events would not be possible. Doreen Rogers, with help from Carol continues to organise the monthly get together lunch at The Ship. We all pray that the new year will bring us a curate to support Mike who is covering a large parish without the usual back-up of a curate. Appreciation to the small number of ladies who make refreshments, readers and sidesmen. A Lewis

Entertainment Evening at the Village Hall The Collingham Singers entertained us very well on October 27th at our last evening’s entertain-ment organised by the Village Hall. Apart from the singing there were poems and amusing anecdotes and the evening was very enjoyable. It was decided to give the proceeds of the evening to Scotter Ward at John Coupland Hospital towards the refurbishment of the palliative care suite. Unfortunately the evening was not well attended so we weren’t able to give as much as we had hoped, but every little helps and we are pleased to be able to send them £200.

Out and About around Morton Now the nights are drawing in thoughts stray to what to do for a change from sitting indoors watching daytime telly or the evening soaps. We were lucky to have two pubs in Morton, but unfortunately The Crooked Billet maybe closing, a decision as not been made yet. We still have The Ship Inn which has a pool table if you fancy a game with your mates, or why not try a quiet game of dominoes? The Ship also has a Quiz on Thursday nights and meals on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Community Playing Field is available when the school is closed for a kick about, kite flying or a game on the hardcourt. And the riverbank is always there for a walk to Walkerith or the other way to town. The middle section of this Newsletter has all the information about what’s on in the Village Hall, from Indoor Bowls to the Art Club, and a social afternoon every fortnight. There are also special events held at the Village Hall, details are

always in the Newsletter, so there is really no reason not to get

out and about and enjoy what your village has to offer!

Morton residents will no doubt be aware that the grass verges in the village are only being cut by Lincolnshire County Council twice per year due to economic cutbacks. The verges are the responsibility of Lincolnshire County Council and Morton Parish Council do not currently have a budget to undertake more cuts to the verges throughout the year, but is aware that the appearance of the village is suffering due to the untidy verges. This is something that the Parish Council will discuss for the next financial year. In the meantime, the Council would like to encourage householders to cut the verges in front of their own property where possible. If anyone knows of residents who are unable to cut the verges near to their property for any reason, could we ask that the community pull together to help each other out? Please do contact the Clerk to the Council on: 01427 617611 (answerphone) or [email protected] With any suggestions, concerns, issues, or to let us know of any residents who are unable to cut the verges. With thanks. Morton Parish Council XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

WANTED ! Wanted, someone with a little spare time to organise the deliveries of this Newsletter at the end of each month. It would suit a retired person with a car, or anyone with a car, and takes about half a day to count out the Newsletters and distribute them to our happy band of volunteers who deliver them to you. Penny Lightfoot has been our distributor for 2 1/2 years and cannot now manage to juggle doing the distribution with work, school and family commitments. We thank Penny for the job well done, and if anyone feels they could help please contact her for more information on 330020. This could be a job share, or if you were unable to do the job one month we could find someone to step in to help out. If you would like to make a contribution to your village life, please consider taking on this role as the Morton Community News is a valuable way of passing on local information to all of our residents. It is edited, written and delivered by volunteers and all help is gratefully received. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice in your local communities

Join us and REMEMBER SOMEONE YOU WILL NEVER FORGET

We are very pleased to be returning to the United Reformed Church on Tuesday 5th December 6.30pm for our Light up A Life celebration, which provides an opportunity for you to remember, loved ones and light personal candles of remembrance this Christmas time. This will be followed by an optional torch-light walk to the nearby Market Place where we will enjoy further songs and readings around the `Tree of Life’; our sincere thanks to Gainsborough Town

Council their support with this. This special evening is open to everyone, not just those touched by Hospice care; booking in advance is not required.

You are also invited to dedicate a light (s) to someone special on our Trees of Life across Lincolnshire this Christmas time, to do this please go to www.stbarnabashospice.co.uk/LUAL

A great time was had by everyone at our recent `35th Birthday Celebration Coffee Morning’, which saw visitors enjoy delicious homemade cakes, take a turn on the tombola and join in with a hearty rendition of `Happy Birthday’ as we celebrated 35 years of St Barnabas Hospice care throughout the county. Many Thanks to everyone who came along and supported the morning which raised £376.40. Special Thanks to Dawn for making the most incredible Birthday Cake to help us celebrate; you are a star!

I had a `yummy’ time completing my latest `35 for 35’ Challenge; `Tasting 35

different Ice Cream Flavours consecutively’! My sincere thanks to all at Blyton Ice Cream who supported this challenge, enabling me to choose from almost 70 different flavours; I did identify one or two favourites; so I know I will be

returning again!!

With many thanks for your continuing support.
