The Rocks I climb. Rock by rock. Fingers bleeding and aching, feet stinging like 1000 wasps flying around in my socks. I am tenacious, hard-working man, so I will not let the pain get to me. Sweat drips down my face as I go up and up. I keep reminding myself not to not look down. My clothes and face are covered in red dirt. I keep assuring myself to keep going. I’m almost there, Just as I am a few metres away from the top, from glory, I slip. “Ahhh!” I yell. I hold onto a sturdy rock for dear life. I am dangling off a cliff 10,000 metres up in the air. I use all my strength to hoist myself up to the next rock. I stop. “What if I don’t make it?” I ask myself. I keep going. My body feels like acupuncture all over. My mettle is keeping me going. I reach up onto the last rock. I pull myself up with the last little bit of strength in the tank I didn’t know I had. I made it! A big grin spreads across my face as relief shoots through my body. I have accomplished my goal at last. By Tyson Before the setting sun could hide itself behind the mountains, I had to complete a test, achieve my goal, conquer my objective and most of all battle my fear of heights, until it left my brave, heroic heart. As I grabbed rock after rock, I had realised I was two kilometres from my goal, but then the sun began to turn against my side and began to hide itself behind the dark shadows of the mountains. I had realised I only had limited time to reach the top. And if the sun set I would fail my quest. As the sky began to turn orange and yellow, everything began to lose their shadows, including mine. Night began to rise, throwing away the sunlight like kicking out a roommate. I was now a hundred metres from my goal and the stars began to appear. I grabbed rock by rock, until I had finally reached the top. I realised I conquered my quest, achieved my goal and completed my test. Then another thought occurred to me. That’s another two weeks to get down this cliff. By PJ

Snowmen on the doorstep

“It’s almost Christmas,” I yelled before bed. “If you stay up too late and don’t go to sleep Santa won’t come,” replied mum. “But we have to leave him a cookie, a drink and a carrot for his reindeer,” I screamed. Tonight was Christmas Eve and it was nine o’clock at night and I was ready for bed, but we forgot to get Santa’s snacks ready. I ran down the stairs and ran into the kitchen. I grabbed the carrot out of the fridge, opened the cookie jar and reached for a cookie then lastly grabbed a drink for Santa. After I collected everything I put it all on the plate and placed it onto the table near the chimney. By Rebecca

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. My name is Eric Leech and today I will be talking to you all about my World War 2 experiences. It was a beautiful day with blue skies. It felt like everything was perfect until it happened. The dark green trucks with the Nazi flag painted on the side flooded into the city in the blink of an eye. The Nazis held our city for 3 months until me and my little sister were captured. One gloomy day one of the trucks stopped in front of our house. They stormed up our driveway, broke in and shot my parents. Daisy and I were horrified at what just happened. The Nazi general shouted some words in German and we were picked up and thrown into the back of the green truck. We travelled for days without food. I packed us two water bottles but they were empty fast due to Daisy’s growing problem of thirst. Day after day we kept driving, only stopping for gas until finally we arrived at the concentration camp. There, everyone looked at us strangely, eyeing us out for any water or food. After 2 years of living there, Daisy died of pneumonia and thirst. August 1945 a Russian officer and five Russian soldiers freed me from the horrors that I had seen. I had written a journal of my experiences in this living, nightmarish hell. Now the book lies in the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC. To this day I wish I had given my water to Daisy just to have the satisfaction that she lived. Just remember, when things go wrong, hold your head high and you’ll make it out alive. By Jack

OVERDUE LIBRARY AND HOME READING

BOOKS

To date we still have quite a few unreturned/overdue library books

and home reading books.

We have a great selection of books on our library shelves which we have spent time and

money cataloguing, covering etc. If they are not returned we have lost not only the

books but the cost of processing them as well.

Overdue notes and letters have been sent home with your child/children on a regular basis.

Please check with your child/children.

Please take the time in these

last two weeks of school to help your child/children look for any

unreturned/overdue library books and home reading books

and return them as soon as possible this year.

Some likely places to find them are on bookshelves, in cupboards, between the bedhead and the mattress,

under the bed, in the car and at grandparents’ houses.

If they are still unreturned when school finishes please continue looking over the holidays and return

them early next year.

Thank you for your assistance.
