    Battery life depends on the network, signalstrength, temperature, features, andaccessories you use.

    Always use Motorola

    Original batteries andchargers. The warranty doesnot cover damage caused bynon-Motorola batteries and/or chargers.

    New batteries or batteries stored for along time may take more time tocharge.

    When charging your battery, keep itnear room temperature.

    When storing your battery, keep ituncharged in a cool, dark, dry place.

    Never expose batteries totemperatures below -10C (14F) orabove 45C (113F). Always take yourphone with you when you leave your

    vehicle.

    It is normal for batteries to graduallywear down and require longer chargingtimes. If you notice a change in your

    battery life, it is probably time topurchase a new battery.

    Contact your local recycling center forproper battery disposal.

    Warning: Never dispose of batteries in a firebecause they may explode.

    Before using your phone, read the batterysafety information in the Safety and GeneralInformation section included in this guide.

    battery chargingNew batteriesare not fullycharged. Plug

    the batterycharger intoyour phoneand anelectrical outlet. Your phone might take

    several seconds to start charging the battery.When finished, your display showsCharge Complete.

    Tip: Relax, you cant overcharge your battery.It will perform best after you fully charge anddischarge it a few times.

    You can charge your battery byconnecting a cable from yourphone's mini-USB port to a USBport on a computer. Both your

    phone and the computer must be turned on,and your computer must have the correctsoftware drivers installed. Cables andsoftware drivers are available inMotorola Original data kits, sold separately.

    Caution: Some phones ask for your SIM card

    PIN code when you turn them on. If you enteran incorrect PIN code three times before thecorrect code, your SIM card is disabled, andyour display shows SIM Blocked. Contact yourservice provider.

    seconds or until thekeypad or displaylights up. If prompted, enter your eight-digitSIM card PIN code and/or four-digit unlock

    code.To turn off your phone, press and holdOfor a few seconds.

    To answer a call when your phone rings

    Note: Your phone cannot receive dataover an EDGE network while it is

    playing videos or some sound files. TheEDGE status indicator appears at the top ofyour display when you can receive data overan EDGE network.

    You can store a phone number in yourPhonebook:Find it:s >n Phonebook, then press Options> Create New > Phone Contactor SIM Contact

    Note: You can store new contacts in yourphones memory or on your SIM card.

    Contacts on the SIM card only have a Nameand Number.

    1 Enter a name and other details for thephone number. To select a highlighteditem, press the center keys.

    2 Press the Done key to store the number.

    To edit or delete a Phonebook entry, seepage 57.

    To store an email address from the homescreen, presss >n Phonebook > New Entry.

    Enter the new contacts name and Emailinformation.

    Shortcut: Enter a phone number in the homescreen, then press the Store key to create acontact. To choose whether your phonestores these contacts in your phonesmemory or on your SIM card, go back to thehome screen and presss >n Phonebook,

    then press Options > Setup > Default Storage> Phone or SIM Card.

    You can do much more with your phone thanmake and receive calls!

    Bluetooth wirelessYour phone supports Bluetooth wirelessconnections. You can connect your phonewith a Bluetooth headset or car kit to make

    handsfree calls. You can also connect yourphone with a phone or computer thatsupports Bluetooth connections to exchangefiles.

    Note: The use of wireless phones whiledriving may cause distraction. Discontinue acall if you cant concentrate on driving.Additionally, the use of wireless devices andtheir accessories may be prohibited or

    restricted in certain areas. Always obey thelaws and regulations on the use of theseproducts.

    For maximum Bluetooth security, youshould always connect Bluetooth devices in asafe, private environment.

    Before you try to connect your phone witha handsfree device, make sure the device ison and ready in pairing or bonding mode

    (see the users guide for the device). You canconnect your phone with only one device at atime.

    3 Select a recognized device name, or[Look For Devices] to search for the devicewhere you want to copy the file.

    If your phone could not copy the file to theother device, make sure the device is on andready in discoverablemode (see the usersguide for the device). Also, make sure the

    device is not busy with another similarBluetooth connection.

    Note: Once you connect your phone to aBluetooth device, that device can start similar

    Bluetooth connections with your phone. Yourdisplay shows the Bluetooth indicatorO atthe top when there is a Bluetooth connection.

    If your phone and the sending devicedont recognize each other, place yourphone in discoverable mode so thesending device can locate it: presss >w Settings > Connection > Bluetooth Link> Find Me.

    2 Press the Acceptkey on your phone to

    accept the file from the other device.

    Your phone notifies you when file transfer iscomplete. If necessary, press the Store key tosave the file.

    Tip: You can listen to tunes on your way. Useairplane modeto make your phone safe touse with a wired headset, even while youreon a plane. See page 78.

    taken, see page 75. You can change settingssuch as Brightness and Contrast, or add effectssuch as Blur and Mirror.

    Your camera lens is on the back of your phone

    when the phone is open. To get the clearestpictures, wipe the lens clean with a drycloth before you take a picture.

    Tip: If you want to send your video in amessage, the video length must be set toMMS. To set length, press

    Options > Video Camera Setup > Video Length.1 Press the center keys to start recording

    the video in the viewfinder.

    2 Press the Stop key to stop recording the

    video. You can:

    Press the Options key to preview, store,or discard the video.

    Press the Send key to send thevideo in a message.

    Enter text and press Send To, then scrollto a recipient address and press thecenter keys to select it. Press theOptions key to enter a new number. Tosend the message, press the Send key.

    Note: Some other phones or networksdo not support messages with videos.

    A text message can contain text andpictures, sounds, or other mediaobjects. You can add multiple pages to amessage, and you can put text and mediaobjects on each page. You can send amessage to other compatible phones or toemail addresses.

    1 Press keypad keys to enter text on the

    page (for details about text entry, seepage 33).

    To insert a picture, sound, or otherobject on the page, press Options > Insert.Select the file type and the file.

    To insert another page in the message,

    enter text or objects on the current pageand press Options > Insert> New Page. You canenter more text and objects on the newpage.

    2 When you finish the message, press theSend To key.

    3 Scroll to a recipient and press thecenter keys. Repeat to add other

    recipients.To enter a new number or email address,press the Options key and select Enter Numberor Enter Email.

    4 Before you send a message, you canpress Options to choose Save to Drafts,Cancel Message, or open Sending Options (such as

    message Subjector CC addresses).

    5 To send the message, press the Send key.

    Your phone might tell you that this is aMultimedia Msg, if it has multiple pages or

    media objects in it. Some other phones ornetworks do not support multimediamessages. Press the Yes key to send themessage.

    To see all of your text messages:

    Find it:s >e Messages > Message Inbox

    If a multimedia message contains mediaobjects:

    Photos, pictures, and animations showas you read the message.

    A sound file plays when its slideshows. Use the volume keys to adjustthe sound volume.

    Attached files are added to the end of

    the message. To open an attachment,scroll to the file indicator/filename andpress the View key (image), Play key(sound), or Open key (phonebook vCard,datebook vCalendar entry, or unknownfile type).

    You can use a removable memory card

    with your phone to store and retrievemultimedia objects (such as photos andsounds).

    Note: If you download a copyrighted file and

    store it on your memory card, you can use thefile only while your memory card is inserted inyour phone. You cannot send, copy, or changecopyrighted files.

    1 Remove thebattery door(see page 11).

    2 To install the

    memory card,make sure thememory cardsmetal contacts are facing down, and slidethe top of the memory card under the

    metal band.

    To remove the memory card, slide itback out of the holder.

    3 Replace the battery door.

    Do not remove your memory card while yourphone is using it or writing files on it.

    To see the files stored on your memory cardand on your phone, open a file list, such asPictures (see page 74). Icons can indicate if a fileis stored in your phone memory () or onyour memory card ().To copy or move a file

    from your phone to your memory card,highlight it in the list and press Options > Manage> Copy or Move > Memory Card. You cannot copy ormove some copyrighted files.
