“SURVIVING THE RIVER OF DEATH”

Max Lucado, in his book, “Six Hours OneFriday,” tells the story of a missionary in Bra-zil who discovered a tribe of Indians in a re-mote part of the jungle. They lived near alarge river. The tribe was in need of medicalattention. A contagious disease was ravagingthe population. People were dying daily.

A hospital was not too terribly far away —across the river, but the Indians would not cross it because they believed theriver was inhabited by evil spirits. And to enter its water would mean certaindeath.

The missionary explained how he had crossed the river & was unharmed. But they were not impressed. He then took them to the bank & placed hishand in the water. They still wouldn’t go in. He walked into the water up tohis waist & splashed water on his face. It didn’t matter. They were stillafraid to enter the river.

Finally, he dove into the river, swam beneath the surface until he emergedon the other side. He raised a triumphant fist into the air. He had entered thewater & escaped. It was then that the Indians broke into a cheer & followedhim across.

Isn’t that what Jesus did? He entered the river of death & came out on theother side so that we might no longer fear death, but find eternal life in Him.

A blessed Easter!

In Christ,

Rev. Milo Ken Anderson

THANK YOU FOR YOUR MINISTRY!

Thank You Mount Calvary Ushers. Romans15:7 tells us to “Welcome one another, therefore asChrist has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” Arrivingat church on Sunday morning it’s wonderful to be greetedby a friendly smiling face. Whether you are a regularattendee or a visitor, that first hello sets the tone for yourworship experience. We at Mount Calvary are fortunateto have ushers waiting in the narthex who always warmlygreet us and welcome us to worship. Welcoming us andproviding us with a bulletin is only part of their job. They also make sure each pew has a “sign in booklet” tobe passed down to record our attendance. Ushers alsoreceive our offerings, guide us to receive communion, and help worshipers as they need the nursery or rest-rooms. Worship would not proceed smoothly withoutthem. Our ushers are such a necessary part of makingworship accessible and enjoyable to all who come toMount Calvary. We thank them for their service and en-courage others to be part of this much needed group.
