Lewis & Clark

Before Thomas Jefferson made the Louisiana Purchase he sent Meriwether Lewis & William Clark to explore the land

Expedition lasted from 1804-1806

They reported the plant & animal life in the region as well as information about natives & chances of settlement

Since they told tale of streams full of beaver, trappers headed west to take part in the fur trade
