Striving for great thingsPage 1 Moura Minor 28 th March, 2019 In this edition: Cross Country Wrap Up SEP Snapshot Drawing Competition Dear Students, Parents/Caregivers and Friends, Firstly this week, a massive congratulations to Mrs Kylie Chater and the P&C in general for organising and hosting a fabulous Big Night Out last weekend. Good food, good company and great entertainment made for a successful and spirit raising evening. A final balance sheet is still being prepared but we know it will show a reasonably sized profit. Keep an eye on the P&C facebook page and section in the newsletter for further P&C fundraising activities. The Cross Country yesterday was a fantastic showcase of all students having a go. Long distance running is not an easy activity, but there were students participating who had chosen not to do so in the past. They were super proud of themselves for the rest of the day. Other super proud students were the placegetters and those selected to represent Moura SS at the Dawson Valley trials in Bauhinia next Thursday. Congratulations to all involved in the morning! Students across the school have been working very hard on completing assessment tasks. Teachers spent a couple of hours after school earlier in the week moderating some tasks from each class to ensure that what students produced matched the rating on the guide to making judgements. The moderation process also ensured that a C in one class of a year level was the same as a C in another class of the same year level. Thank you, Teachers, for focusing on the task and taking the extra time to ensure alignment of curriculum, teaching and assessment. Even though Term 1 assessment tasks are completed, or nearly are, there is still much teaching and learning happening in classes. In some cases, the next unit has been started. Attendance at school every day is essential! PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS In the second week of next term (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 29 April-02 May after school), parents/caregivers have the opportunity to meet with teachers about student progress for Term 1. A separate note about this will be sent home. I strongly encourage you to make an interview time in the next week as you do not want to get to the Semester One report card to find out your child’s progress in their learning. A big thank you to parents and teachers who have already taken the opportunity to meet or chat with each other about student learning. These have made a difference with the students’ progress.

EASTER ACTIVITIES An Easter Bonnet parade has not been added to our school calendar this term. Instead of creating hats throughout the last week of term, the Year 1-6 students will work in groups to complete some STEM challenges based on an Easter theme on the Friday morning. The Prep classes will provide separate information about their plans for the day. PARKING IN MASTERS STREET Please note that in Masters Street (the street that runs along the prep side through to the Rec Grounds) parking is limited to certain areas. Parking on the bike racks side of the street and into the Rec Grounds, especially on the school side, is NOT a safe option. It is very busy with bikes, scooters, prams, students etc at the end of the school day. There is also a No Parking sign at the Rec Grounds that needs to be taken notice of. Please ensure you park correctly and obey the speed limits. Children’s safety, and yours, are our top priority! RESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUR PLAN FOR STUDENTS Bronze Certificates: These certificates will be presented at the Week 10 Parade (ie Monday 01 April). Bronze certificates are awarded to the students who have had 8 weeks of being safe, responsible, courteous and learning this term. They will also have needed to be at school for at least 3 days per week. THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Students of the

Week

Autism Awareness Week 1-7 April

This term is nearly over. Students may be stressing over exams and assignments, as well as being tired. It is important that the students have a good night’s sleep, a healthy diet and some exercise. This will contribute to their well-being. It is also important to stop and take time to listen and talk to them. Next week is Autism Awareness week. This is a

good opportunity to familiarise ourselves about

Autism. Below are two posters with some

information.

I am privileged to work in a community where people are accepting of each other. At our schools, we celebrate and embrace differences. Our staff model acceptance for our students and it has become a seamless practice. Below is a link to a Youtube clip of ‘Meet the Trummies’, showing how autism can affect people differently. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSVdpAfIxnQ&feature=youtu.be Wishing everyone a wonderful and safe holiday.

Thank you to the P&C for operating the canteen and all the supporters who came out and

cheered for the morning.

Good luck to Team Dawson Valley next week. Please have your notes returned to the office
