How to convert MOV files to Sony Vegas

This article is divided into two parts, the first part tells you some general knowledge

about MOV and Sony Vegas, and the second part focuses its mainly attention to the

problems of importing MOV files to Sony Vegas, the reasons and solution

Part I: MOV and Sony VegasMOV is a native QuickTime file format which functions as a multimedia container

file that contains one or more tracks, each of which stores a particular type of data:

video, audio, effects or texts (e.g for subtitles).

Sony Vegas is a professional non-linear editing system originally published by

Sonic Foundry that can be workable with Microsoft Windows XP, Vista and 7. It

supports unlimited video and audio tracks, any aspect ratio, pixel aspect ratio and any

frame rate.

Part II: This part is further divided into three sections: problems of importing MOV files to Sony Vegas, the reasons and the solution.

Section 1: Difficulties encountered when importing MOV files to Sony VegasAlthough promised to deal with a wide variety of video files, people may still face

many problems when importing MOV files to Sony Vegas for editing, as to my

research, there are several issues summarized below that people may commonly run

across.

Category One: No reason specified"Whenever I try to import a MOV file into Sony Vegas 8 it instantly crashes."

Category Two: Camera importing problem"My files on my Aiptek camcorder come out as HD MOV files, these aren't

compatible to Sony Vegas, what should I do these files that make them good on Sony

Vegas and not download the quality."

Category Three: Codec missing"Help I can't import MOV files to my Sony Vegas 7. It says I have to download

QuickTime. I already downloaded it and it still doesn't work."

Page 2: MOV to Sony Vegas Converter

Category Four: Audio or video missing or out of sync"When I import my camera video clips (mov) to Vegas I only get video no audio,

when I watch them normally in Windows Media Player I got sound. Why is this? In

the file explorer built into Vegas it says 'audio: can't determine'""I've recently just bought a new camcorder (Toshiba Camileo H20), which export

video in MOV format. On importing them into Sony Vegas 9 I have had a few

problems.1) The video starts a few seconds after the actual start.2) The sound starts at the beginning of the clip."......

Section 2: The reasons for failed importingAs to my own research, there maybe several reasons relating to these problems. The first reason: PC unsupportedMaybe Sony Vegas is not supported by your PC, Sony Vegas currently can only run

on Windows XP, Vista and 7 and Mac versions available, so check your PC. But, this

may seldom happened because people like to use advanced version of PC.

The second reason: application or codec missingMOV is a native QuickTime file format, and QuickTime is bundled with every Mac

bought which can be available for both Windows and Mac, but in order to use the

MOV files, your PC must have QuickTime installed, but this can't solve problems

completely, you still have to install the proper codec.

The third reason: file compatibility, corresponding settings or unique camcorderSometimes, Sony Vegas may not accept your MOV files from your camcorders, and

there will be audio, video problems, or some other problems etc. This may result from

file compatibility, improper camcorder or Sony Vegas settings or types of camcorder

(for example, MOV files do not always work in Sony Vegas, the new JVC GY-

HM700 records in MOV (for FCP) format and they don't show any video but do show

audio)......

Section 3: The solutionAs we can see from above, MOV importing into Sony Vegas is really a hard nut to

crack, but how? The most effective and comprehensive way to tackle the above
