WELCOME Moxie Enthusiast! On behalf of the Town Council and me, we want to welcome you to the 2016 Moxie festival. We are delighted to have you here to help us celebrate the 34rd anniversary with “Moxie It’s Out of This World.” We promise there will be something fun for everyone. – Diane Barnes, Lisbon Town Manager
The festival volunteer committee’s work continues throughout the year to bring you this festival. People visit from all over the country to witness where “Moxie” is celebrated during the three-day annual event. The festival is an opportunity for those to reunite and gather with fellow classmates, friends and family members and reflect on the history of growing up in Lisbon and drinking Moxie.
This year’s festival theme is “Moxie It’s Out of This World” which you will see displayed through-out Maine’s largest parade. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9th with a special Grand Marshal.
The festival will begin with Friday evening in the Lisbon High School parking lot. The Moxie Festival Block Party will begin at 4:00 p.m. with the talented dancers from Alma Lea’s Dance Studio, from 6 to 7 p.m. Velocity Cheer will perform on the softball field. Bring your lawn chair to listen to the 195th Army Band from 7 to 7:45 p.m. and after you feel the music from the Army Band it will be dance party time with Entertainment Plus DJ Services. As always we will have the Touch-A-Truck, and Fireworks. The Lisbon High School will be a great spot to view the fireworks. There will also be vendors and Moxie Gear available for sale.
The festival will continue on Saturday, July 9th, with plenty of activities along Main Street and School Street.
New this year will be a “Whoopie Pie Eating Contest,” and a “Moxie’s Got Talent Contest” so check out the registration form at http://moxiefestival.com/. There will also be plenty of kids activities…..stay turned!
The Moxie Concert in the Park sponsored by Oxford Casino and Positive Change Lisbon will feature: “Cold As Ice – the ultimate Journey Tribute Band.”
We will have an ATM onsite as well as an ATM at the new Frosty’s Donuts. Although there are ATM’s in this location, you may want to carry cash as not all vendors take credit cards.
Kavanaugh Amusements will be back again at Don’s Automotive. They will offer day bracelets as well as individual tickets for the three days. Please check the schedule for times.
Although the majority of activities take place on Saturday, there is still more activities on Sunday with the annual Moxie Car Show, Ridge Road School Open House and Carnival.
This is only a sample of the festivities. For a complete schedule of events, check the insert guide or visit our website at MoxieFestival.com.
As you can see there will be plenty of activities and Moxie FUN for ALL AGES. On behalf of the 2016 Moxie Festival Committee, we thank you and hope you enjoy yourselves participating in all Lisbon has to offer!

Experience the top-hit rock ballads: Waiting for a Girl Like You, and I Want to Know What Love Is, along with all the rock classics — Cold
as Ice, Urgent, Hot Blooded and SO MANY MORE! With years of live performances, award winning vocals, and national touring, the Cold As Ice line up consists of some of New England's best musicians that undoubtedly captivates audiences with spot-on recre-ations of Foreigner's hits. Celebrating over 40 years...
By Dan MaroisSpecial Section Feature Writer and Photographer
There’s a special event hap-pening at this year’s Moxie Festival that will allow the general public to own a bit of Moxie and Lisbon Falls history.
Da niel Buck Soules f rom Da n iel Buck Auct ions & Appraisals will hold a Moxie Store and Graziano’s Restau-rant Auction on Saturday, July 9 during the ever popular Moxie Festival. A unique col-lection of memorabilia will be auctioned off at Soule’s loca-tion at 501 Lisbon Street in Lisbon Falls.
“I am honored to be asked to auction items from the per-sona l col lect ion of Frank A n icet t i, k now n a s “Mr. Moxie,” whose family ran the Kennebec Fruit Company in Lisbon Falls,” said Soules, who has been an auction-eer and appraiser for over 40 years. “This auction will have a variety of items.”
There are common items like lighting fixtures, display
racks and signage taken from the 100-year-old company that stood on a busy corner in downtown Lisbon Falls, which stil l remains as the town’s Moxie headquarters.
“It is the unusual items that w i l l have some interest,” said Soules. “There’s lots of Moxie related items including bottles, glasses, signs, hand fans, and tins. There are also other collectibles from the soda counter.”
Soules noted that there are two old fashioned cash reg-isters in the auction that were used at the store as well as large vintage Coca-Cola button signs, vintage metal Moxie signs, and a Moxie crate. There’s even sheet music with songs about Moxie including the Moxie Fox Trot Song published by The Moxie Compa ny of A mer ica i n Boston, Massachusetts.
“Here’s a Little Lemons Little League Baseball uniform,” said Soules. “It was a team that the business sponsored in the 1950s and 1960s.”
The auction will also feature
items from another Lisbon Falls iconic landmark, Gra-ziano’s Restaurant.
“I have worked with the Gra-ziano family to offer items that were part of the restau-rant,” said Soules, noting that the collection includes t he sp or t s photog r a ph s that were displayed in the popular eatery. Other items include signs, displays, and collectibles.
Soules expects that there will be about 150 to 200 items in each of the auctions from t he Mox ie a nd Gra zia no collections.
While the auction is slated to begin on July 9 at 1 p.m., a preview Open House will take place on Friday evening, July 8 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The auctioneer and “Mr. Moxie” will be on hand to answer any questions about the items up for auction.
“I encourage people to look at the items and do their research in advance to know what they are looking at and purchasing,” said Soules. “The items will be sold to the
highest bidder.”
Soules believes that people who collect Moxie and old store memorabilia or who have an interest in the local area and its history will be pleased to attend the auction.
“There will be a broad range of items for sale,” adds Soules. “The range of value will be $7 to $10 to upwards of several hundred dollars.”
Sou les f i rst entered t he auction business when he first saw his two uncles pick up col lectible items. “I’m a lways fascinated by old items where I think back on when the item was first made and who made it,” said Soules, who claims a love of Ameri-can history.
Soules is a bit of a celebrity having appeared for 11 years on the popular PBS “Antiques Roadshow,” where he trav-eled the country appraising items brought by thousands of collectors.
“I was pleased…dealing with people and helping them know the value of the items
that they had.”

Parade Grand Marshal
Did you know that NASA is preparing for human explo-ration of Mars, via MOXIE. The Grand Marsal for the 2016 Parade is Michael Hecht who is an Associate Director for Research at MIT’s Hay-stack Observatory, and the Principal Investigator for an instrument called MOX IE
that will f ly on NASA’s Mars 2020 rover mission. MOXIE, which stands for the “Mars Oxygen ISRU Experiment” (ISRU is itself an acronym for “in situ resource utiliza-tion”) will make oxygen from the carbon dioxide in the thin Martian atmosphere, much l i ke t he “ox ygen-ator” in the recent film The Martian. A native New Eng-lander, Mike spent 30 years at the Jet Propulsion Labo-ratory in Pasadena, CA, the hub of NASA’s solar system exploration program, before returning to New England and MIT. He doesn’t always drink tonic, but when he does, he prefers Moxie.
