MPS robotic

MPSr-Maestro supports Tool Changer features:

➢ with the help of Batch Sequences

➢ with PrepAction SYRINGE

➢ but not in the sequence table because this is impossible to handle for the Scheduler especially when you alter a sequence during the run

➢ and it is analytically useless to run headspace and liquid samples in the same sequence mainly when the syringe heater is switched off in thepark station

Page 7: MPS roboticdownloads/MPSr-Maestro... · 2015. 2. 11. · MPS robotic MPSr-Maestro supports Tool Changer features: with the help of Batch Sequences with PrepAction SYRINGE but not

MPS robotic

MPSr-Maestro has still missed features:

➢ Unlock Terminal (we are working on it)➢ Interactive Mode➢ Cleanup after STOP (only one vial)➢ Skip Cleanup (is ignored)➢ Change Tray Type➢ Change Syringe for the robotic from within Maestro (we are working on it)

Totally unclear if they can be implemented later...

➢ Change Standby Temperature is implemented now and the Standby Temperature is set automatically now when the HS Tool is selected

Page 8: MPS roboticdownloads/MPSr-Maestro... · 2015. 2. 11. · MPS robotic MPSr-Maestro supports Tool Changer features: with the help of Batch Sequences with PrepAction SYRINGE but not

MPSr-Maestro supports the following Integrations:

➢ GC ChemStation B.01.01 to B.04.03➢ GC ChemStation C.01.01 to C.01.07

➢ MSD ChemStation D.02.00 to E.02.01 (Tray name length is limited to 20 characters, and 16 characters in SingleRun Mode)

➢ MSD ChemStation E.02.02 to E.02.02SP2(Tray name length is limited to 20 characters in SingleRun Mode)

➢ Work around: new Vial Type Objects with short names has to be installedno longer needed: Maestro maps “-CV NonMagnetic” to “-CVNM” now

➢ GC MassHunter B.07.00 to B.07.02

typical tray name is “Rack 3,VT15/20-CV NonMagnetic”, i. e 30 characters

MPSr-Maestro does not support any Couplings:

Work around: install stand alone and let me know which Coupling is needed. Then we will discuss the priority of its implementation. Planned are the following Couplings:

➢ Agilent LC MassHunter ➢ Thermo Xcalibur➢ SCIEX Analyst

➢ all LC Couplings can only be implemented if LC injection is completed

MPSr-Maestro online shows all objects and incorrect limits:

At the moment in the MPS Parameters dialog the pull down menus show a lot entries even if they are analytical useless (e. g. “VT40/Tube” Tray Type in theMPS Liquid dialog).

➢ Also sometimes the limits of the input fields are wrong because they are notread from the sampler. It is very complex to handle them correctly with differentsyringe needle lengths, gripper heights, vial heights and so on.

➢ It is planned in the future to limit these parameters as it was done before with MPS and MPSxt but it is unclear if it can be done at all.

➢ So it is very tricky for the user to select the correct objects and find out the limits.

Page 11: MPS roboticdownloads/MPSr-Maestro... · 2015. 2. 11. · MPS robotic MPSr-Maestro supports Tool Changer features: with the help of Batch Sequences with PrepAction SYRINGE but not

MPSr-Maestro online shows all objects and incorrect limits:

In an online Maestro not only the currently installed Tools can be selectedbut all Tools that has been installed some day. They are all saved in the so-called Tool Pool (which is part of the file “C:\ProgramData\Gerstel\Maestro\MasCfg\LeftMPSrobotic_x.dmp”).It is needed to create methods and sequences with already installed but currently not available Tools.

➢ This Tool Pool is extremely critical when you are connecting one Maestro to different MPS robotic sampers. In such a case it is recommended to delete the “.dmp” file before you start Maestro.

➢ Tool Pool behavior has changed: only currently installed Tools can be selected now.

Page 12: MPS roboticdownloads/MPSr-Maestro... · 2015. 2. 11. · MPS robotic MPSr-Maestro supports Tool Changer features: with the help of Batch Sequences with PrepAction SYRINGE but not

MPS robotic

MPSr-Maestro supports offline installation only limited:

➢ It is planned to implement all files needed for an offline instrument. This is finished now.

➢ Offline instruments often show all objects (tools, trays, wash stations) thathas been connected online some day.

➢ So it is very tricky for the user to select the correct objects.

MPSr-Maestro setup comes with proper Firmware:

➢ Each Maestro version only works flawless (and is tested) with a proper

firmware version.

➢ It is part of the setup file and can be found in the known folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Gerstel\Maestro\Firmware\

(Here also a long “readme” file can be found which tells how to install it.)

Page 14: MPS roboticdownloads/MPSr-Maestro... · 2015. 2. 11. · MPS robotic MPSr-Maestro supports Tool Changer features: with the help of Batch Sequences with PrepAction SYRINGE but not

MPSr-Maestro setup comes with proper Firmware:

How to install this firmware:

➢ Unzip the file "GERSTEL MPSrobotic FW 2.x StdConfig Templates.zip" file into the root folder of an USB stick (FAT32 formatted)

➢ power off the MPS robotic➢ plug in the USB stick➢ power on the MPS robotic (be carefully: ext. devices are started during boot)

When the USB stick and the firmware file is recognized the update process begins automatically and can be followed on the terminal.

➢ Please be patient: it needs a lot of time ! (up to 20 minutes)

MPS robotic

MPSr-Maestro setup comes with Syringe Templates:

How to install “Templates” for the syringes: ➢ For liquid syringes: select one of these imported syringes as "Syringe Type" of

the "USM" tool on the terminal (e. g. "10-Gn-Pr-T").➢ For HS syringes: select one of these imported syringes as "Syringe Type" of

the "HS" tool on the terminal (e. g. "2.5M-Hw-Dr-T").

➢ SPME fibers are already installed, so no Template Import is needed. ➢ For SPME: select "SPME2-01" for 10 mm and "SPME2-02" for 20 mm fibers

as "Syringe Type" of the "SPME" tool on the terminal.

Page 19: MPS roboticdownloads/MPSr-Maestro... · 2015. 2. 11. · MPS robotic MPSr-Maestro supports Tool Changer features: with the help of Batch Sequences with PrepAction SYRINGE but not

MPS robotic

MPSr-Maestro setup comes with a Standard Backup:

After setting up the individual hardware and the Syringe Templates: ➢ Before you start now the "Installation" wizard it is very important that you build

in syringes into all tools because they are needed during the tool calibration.

➢ If an ALX gripper is installed remove it because teaching has to be done without it.

➢ Finally execute the "Installation" wizard with "Option - Service – Installation"and follow its instructions until all green check marks are set.

MPSr-Maestro setup comes with a Standard Backup:

Trouble shooting in “Installation” wizard: ➢ whenever there is an error message like “cannot calibrate tool” or

“Plunger motor not within the limits” which are eventually caused by mechanical tolerances try to overcome by repeating the steps at least once

➢ if a tool is not yet calibrated, the MPS robotic pro is unable to park it. In worst case you have to remove the tool manually...

Page 23: MPS roboticdownloads/MPSr-Maestro... · 2015. 2. 11. · MPS robotic MPSr-Maestro supports Tool Changer features: with the help of Batch Sequences with PrepAction SYRINGE but not

Remove the tool manually:

➢ switch power off➢ remove the top cover with the screw

(Torx 20) on the back side➢ remove the front cover by loosing the screw

(Torx 10) at the bottom of the cover➢ hold the tool with one hand and press the metallic

cylinder with the spring (1) from above with the other ➢ then press the round plate with the

two holes (2) from above to release the plunger

MPSr-Maestro setup comes with proper Firmware:

Trouble shooting firmware update with keyword files: ➢ The firmware is automatically updated when the firmware on the USB stick is

newer.

➢ For a downgrade you have to create a file called “force.txt” in the folder “Autorun” on the USB stick. When it is found the firmware is overwritten even it is newer.

➢ Normally most of the objects on the sampler remain when the firmware is updated.

➢ For an update with all objects removed you have to create a file called “ResetSystem.txt” in the folder “Autorun” on the USB stick.

Page 25: MPS roboticdownloads/MPSr-Maestro... · 2015. 2. 11. · MPS robotic MPSr-Maestro supports Tool Changer features: with the help of Batch Sequences with PrepAction SYRINGE but not

MPSr-Maestro setup comes with proper Firmware:

Trouble shooting the firmware for correct Input Output settings: ➢ Sometimes the Input Output settings are lost when the firmware has been

updated. Then no “Inject”, “Start”, and “Injected” entries can be found on the start page.

Check the following settings:

➢ Input Output 1: "TTLIn1" - "Low Active" not set➢ Input Output 1: "PWMOut" "Output Voltage" set to 35.000V (needed for the

HS flush gas line)

MPSr-Maestro and CTC’s .NET driver:

Trouble shooting “Kill Program Tasks” and start-up problems:

➢ When “Kill Progam Tasks” is used a “Cannot get lock for Sampler” message isoften shown during the next start. Then it is recommended to let Maestro completely finish its “Initializing” and “Shutting down” process. When you kill Maestro hereby you will never be connected to CTC’s driver again.

➢ When Maestro is started sometimes an “Access denied, cannot execute activity. Activity execution requires a valid lock.” or an “ActivityBatch runtime error” happens. Here a re-start of Maestro/ChemStation may help.

➢ If none of the tips above help re-start the PC and power cycle the MPS robotic.

Page 28: MPS roboticdownloads/MPSr-Maestro... · 2015. 2. 11. · MPS robotic MPSr-Maestro supports Tool Changer features: with the help of Batch Sequences with PrepAction SYRINGE but not

MPSr-Maestro and Firmware:

Trouble shooting an ALEX system:

"[MoveToObject]:Runtime error 'InvalidState_HardwareError' occured. (M2023):" in Maestro and

"Tool Control 1 has reached current limit." as blinking pending messageon the Terminal means

➢ the ALX gripper is defective

MPSr-Maestro and Firmware:

Trouble shooting an ALEX/TDU system:

It is not intended to place the ALEX/TDU Tray with the Tray Type “VT40l” or “VT40t” in the Slot of a Rack. For ALEX/TDU a "Tray" with a special name is needed that has to be teached here:

"Options - Setup - PALmodules - Trays – ALXTray1/TDUTray1 - Options - Teach PALmodule".

MPSr-Maestro and Firmware:

Trouble shooting: ➢ Familiarize with long error messages. One part eventually contains the helpful text:

“Parameter SetValue Error: [PenetrateWithConstForce]:Parameter [Target] does not comply with capability. Allowed capabilities:IConstForceInjector,ILcInjectorValve (Undefined Exception)”

This happens when you try to inject with an LC Maestro into a GC Injector.

MPSr-Maestro and MSD Integration limitation:

Trouble shooting MSD ChemStation < E.02.02: no longer needed due to mapping ➢ import Vial Type Templates where the original name

“xx-CV NonMagnetic” or “xx-CV Magnetic”is shortened to“xx-CVNM” or “xx-CVM”

➢ Change “Rack Item in all Racks and Trayholders➢ Change “Rack Item in all positions of the Agitators

Shouldn’t we use the short names generally? Cause tray names are too long for every Integration (in GUI and reports).

Page 36: MPS roboticdownloads/MPSr-Maestro... · 2015. 2. 11. · MPS robotic MPSr-Maestro supports Tool Changer features: with the help of Batch Sequences with PrepAction SYRINGE but not

Advantages over PAL3:

➢ MPS robotic Pro, MPS robotic and MPS liquid allow Sample Preparation

by mouse click

➢ Thermo TriPlus RSH does allows Sample Preparation but only in verylimited manner with per-assembled scripts

➢ Agilent LSI and RSI do not allow Sample Preparation ➢ Agilent RTC allows Sample Preparation but only with very complex

scripting language so Agilent needs a “Script Writing Service”, where an Agilent software engineer writes the script for one customer case.
