Newsletter March was yet again another exciting month. We enjoyed a week for Spring Break, lost an hour to our annual time change and we still managed to fill every day with instructive, fun and stimulating activities. I would like to extend a special note of appreciation to all the teachers who are holding enriching, educational and “fun” lunch hour activities for all of Bancroft students. Celebrating Nutrition Month Our teachers have been enjoying various nutritional activities with their classes exploring the many joys of nutritious eating. School Play – The Little Mermaid Preparations for our annual musical are in high gear! This year’s production of The Little Mermaid promises to be spectacular. Children are practicing their song and dance moves. Magical huddles of parent volunteers are busy painting, sewing and crafting this year’s costumes and stage props. Our Saturday play painting blitz allowed us to set the scene(s)! Please reserve your seats for both dinner theatre and/or shows well in advance, as this production is already close to being SOLD OUT for all 3 nights. Don’t miss our “box-office’ dates (April 4 th & 5 th at school from 3:45 to 5:30). This year’s Play dates are April 9 th , 11 th and 16 th . Storytelling We hosted our very own Storytelling Festival/Competition at Bancroft on March 14 th . Cycle 3 students performed their English and French stories for a panel of guest judges and Bancroft students. The judges selected two winners, Aparna Padinjare, and Chloe Pinto-Kelly, and two runners up, Ramin Imam and Justin Bourque-Meloche who represented Bancroft at the Annual EMSB Storytelling Festival on March 14 th at Edward Murphy School. Congratulations to all participants and their teachers on a job well done. Robotics The students, as part of their Science et technologie’ program, have started their fabulous journey into the world of Robotics. They have learned how to build and program moving robots. Once again this year, some of our cycle 2 & 3 students will be participating and competing in the: Junior Robotics Competition Friday April 26 and Saturday April 27. Westmount High School, 4350 Saint-Catherine St, Westmount, QC. A big thank you to Mr. Charles for preparing our teams! A big thank you to all the parent volunteers as well. Please come out to the competition to support and cheer our students on! Reading Week This year’s reading week was a wonderful success! It was a collaborative effort between students, teachers and parents. The parent reading visits were enjoyed by the students. Their favorite storybook character costumes, were both funny and creative. In addition, each time a student presented a book they read, they were awarded a coupon for a chance to win a $10 Indigo/Chapters gift card. Grade 6 Graduation Trip Our grade 6 graduating class enjoyed a fabulous overnight trip to L’Auberge du Mont on March 28 th & 29 th . They learned survival skills and had lots of fun snowshoeing, participating in outdoor activities and nature exploration. Our thanks to Mrs. Steiner, Mme. Krim, Mr. Charles, Mr. Rubens, Ms. Carly Brown and Ms. Lindsey Jones for accompanying the students. TCBY TCBY sales start on April 3 rd . If you would like your child to purchase a frozen yogurt snack please make sure he/she has exactly $3.00 in a clearly labelled envelope in his/her lunch box as they are being sold at lunch. Teachers will NOT be collecting this money. The end of the year is quickly approaching. That means the culmination of our studies with End-of-Cycle Exams. Please note that our Grade 4 and 6 students will be writing compulsory MEES End-of-Cycle Exams in English, French and Mathematics, starting on April 15 th . A FORMAL AND FINAL SCHEDULE WILL FOLLOW SHORTLY. IT WILL ALSO BE POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE. ALL EXAMS ARE COMPULSORY. ATTENDANCE and PUNCTUALITY ARE A MUST. An absence during a ministerial examination will require a doctor’s note. Parents are kindly reminded to avoid planning visits to dentists/doctors and vacation time during this period. Time lost by tardiness or absence will impede success!
