NEW PLAYGROUND Last Wednesday we were able to open the Cat-erpillar Playground again and of course our new adventure playground. The whole school attend-ed an unofficial opening and watched as the SRC Seniors explained the obstacle course that is built within the playground itself. At the same time I went through the safety aspects of the playground so that we were all on board and familiar with the area.

The official opening will take place on the morn-ing of Grandparents Day, Monday 4th Novem-ber, with a short ceremony at 9.15am.

We need to replace our beloved Caterpillar in the ‘Caterpillar Playground’. If anyone has a contact for large playground ani-mals I would love to hear from you. We need to look at something a bit more substantial than the wooden one we had.

TERM 4 WEEK 3 OATLEY WEST LANTERN - The school by the park 28 October 2019

We had a few worried kids (and parents) last week concerned about our cow. She didn’t die and she didn’t fall. Mr Eric was removing her wheels so that she could take up resi-dence in the Welcome Garden for all to share. She has been without a home since her art-work was completed.

All secure now in her new home welcoming everyone to our school each day.

for us to determine our priorities for 2020.

Following on from the results, the Communication Team want to let you know that we have heard

you! We have chosen to commit to streamlining and improving communication at Oatley West

Public School and it begins with downloading the SkoolBag App and ensuring that it is up to date.

Please follow the instructions below.

YEAR 6 SCHOOL FETE DAY R U OK?

We will be hosting OWPS R U Ok Day on Tuesday, 29th October. Students should wear something yellow with their sport uniform. R U OK day reminds students and people to ask family, friends and colleagues the question, "R U OK?", in a meaningful way, because connecting regularly and meaningfully is one thing everyone can do to make a difference to anyone who might be struggling. It is also a nice time to give thanks to those around us who have a positive impact on our lives. Cheers, Miss Morgan and the Wellbeing Team

P & C NEWS

This meeting will have a focus on funding for 2020 and will also be attended by Relieving Director Anne Ross and the Georges River College, Oatley Campus Principal – this will be a wonderful oppor-tunity to meet them both and ask any questions you may have.

ORGANIC DIGGERS REPORT

CAKE DAY

TERM 4 WEEK 3 OATLEY WEST LANTERN - The school by the park 28 October 2019

LEARNING SUPPORT

SRC FUNDRAISER—HELP OUR FARMERS

As the heat increases, activity in the garden is winding down for the year. The Diggers are con-tinuing harvesting the last of the spring crops and removing invasive weeds from our produce and swale garden. We have applied for a grant that would allow us to eradicate weeds and plant out a second native garden. A working bee is planned for week 8, keep your eyes peeled to the news-letter for further information. Happy gardening! Mr Burr Organic Diggers Co-ordinator

Thursday 14th November, 2019 (Week 5) Australian farmers are the backbone of our country. Due to the drought they need our sup-port to keep their cattle alive and food in our stomachs. We can help by donating a gold coin to get the farmers through this tough time. If you can, dress in mufti or dress like a farmer on Thursday 14th November, 2019 to support our farmers that need our help during this drought. Your class SRC representatives will col-lect your gold coin donation on the day. Thank you so much - Annalise Farah and the SRC.

Our next cake day will be on the 4th November

(Grandparents Day). We kindly ask all Kindergarten

classes to supply the cakes.

If you can come along from 10.30am your help sell-

ing the cakes will be appreciated.

Please remember to label all containers with your

child’s name and class as we will have cakes from 4

classes, so labelling them will help us getting them

back to the right classroom. All cakes are 50 cents.

Thank you.

SPORTS NEWS RECYCLE YOUR ORAL CARE WASTE!

Sydney East Representative Congratulations to Madena (Year 3) who has been selected to represent Sydney East at the NSW Primary Schools 2019 Athletics Champi-onships. Madena will be participating in the 1500m track event and we wish her all the best!

BOOK CLUB

Wednesday 30th October

Every year, thousands of used pieces of oral care

product packaging ends up in landfills across

Australia. Colgate and TerraCycle have part-

nered to give a second life to your used oral care

packaging and Oatley West PS is jumping on

board this fantastic initiative. The Colgate Oral

Care Recycling Program allows us to collect and

recycle this oral care product packaging, to pre-

vent it from ending up in landfill. Rather than

ending up in the environment, the used oral care

packaging is melted, and remoulded to make

new recycled products.

Bins have been set up for collection in the

school office foyer area. They have been la-

belled with products that are able to be reused.

Attached to the newsletter is also a poster with

these details. Please encourage family and

neighbours to also join this great cause. Remem-

ber that the oral care products don’t have to be

the Colgate Brand. Thank you to everyone who

has already donated to this great recycling idea!

Miss Morgan (Teacher) and Mrs Grasso

Battery Recycling

We have a battery recycling box in the office, if

you have any old batteries please feel free to

drop them to our box in the office. Thank you!
