Dear Chairman Stein,

We, the undersigned, 1400+ individuals, in the attached petition, respectfully request that theConnecticut Siting Council deny approval to CPV Towantic, LLC to construct a 784 MW electricgenerating facility located north of the Prokop Road and Towantic Hill Road intersection in theTown of Oxford, Connecticut. The signatures are primarily of tax paying citizens of Oxford,Middlebury, Naugatuck, Southbury, Woodbury, Seymour, Beacon Falls, and beyond voicingtheir opposition to the power plant.

Objections to the plant include, but are not limited to the following issues:• Risks to health, especially to children and the elderly, as 2.7 million tons per year of toxicpollutants spew from its two 150 ft smokestacks. These dangerous toxins are linked torespiratory and pulmonary problems, lung cancer, and heart disease.• The depletion of aquifers and serious water pollution;• Hazard to small planes at Oxford Airport;• Decreased property values;• Increased traffic on our roads;• Changes that have occurred in the region since 1999 such as the dramatic increase inpopulation;• Connecticut’s 20/20 agreement to use 20% renewable energy by the year 2020.

the hill from the proposed site. I will tell you that many daysa year we get a natural gas smell that settles into the valleywhere we live. The gas that gets released by the pipelinecomes directly to this neighborhood and it's strong. Wehave to call the fire department it's so strong. The fire depttells us they will contact the pipeline. If this plant is buildwhatever emissions the plant creates are going to settleinto this valley the same way the natural gas releasesdo...this will be every day the plant operates and my familywill be breathing it in. They said the pipeline andcondensing station would have no affect too...until it did.This plant is a danger to families and kids in the area.
