High school teachers were asked what skills their students should have upon entering high school. The #1 answer: ORGANIZATION As a 6th grade team we have provided a specific system to help keep your child organized with their many classes, homework, tests, and projects. Planners and Binders Each student is asked to write in their planner as he/she visits each class. Some teachers have them write ONLY homework and others combine classwork and homework. Each assignment is kept in a specific location in their binder according to the class and assignment number. Assignment Log Each assignment is given an assignment number. That number becomes the page in that section of their binders. Students are expected to keep an updated Assignment Log page along with their numbered assignments until a Portfolio/Binder Check is announced. The Portfolio/Binder grades include points for completed work, organization of the assignments, and correct assignment log page. Please do not throw out any papers. Subjects we will be studying this year:● How to think like an Engineer (Problem solving)● Energy● Weather & Climate● Climate Change● Body Systems● Genetics

Most Homework is what is not finished in class and studying. Due dates will be Thurs-Fri.

Language Arts & Literature- No AR points this year!!!

- Two book reports that will require an A.R. test.

- Students will be required to log their nightly reading minutes (30 min. per night) on a monthly reading log, which requires a parent’s signature (a signature is required to be accepted).

- Reading logs are worth 25 points each and count for 10% of their overall grades in Literature!

- There will be Spelling & Vocabulary homework weekly with quizzes at the end of the week.

- Students will be required to print many assignments from home.

- If you do not have a printer at home, parents should fill out the Parent Contact Form on the homeroom portion of the classroom websites and check the box that states that there is no working printer at home.

- Once the teacher has been notified by the parent (not the student) that there is no printer at home, student have the option of hand writing the assignment in blue or black ink.

- Keep in mind that there are many benefits to allowing your child to type and print work (i.e. State Testing, practicing MLA format, etc.) in addition to it being a requirement from 7th grade and on. You may want to invest in a printer soon!

Parent Signature Required!!! Quiz Corrections- Hard Copy▶ Parent signature on Quiz

Results required. ▶ Can come to OTI hours to

for help, then do corrections for half point back on each problem.

▶ Students have one week from the day their quiz is returned, to resubmit their quiz with the corrections completed.

Math Projects Menu▶ Must Complete 30 points by end

of First Trimester. ▶ All students required to complete

the “Must Do” project. ▶ Can choose whatever projects

they are interested in to get the rest of their trimester points.

▶ Some class time to work on these during Sub days or when they are finished with their TEAM tasks early.
