Principle of Operation – An array of Piezoelectric resonators forming a Sensor Matrix – An electronic circuit manages all sensors and enable them to
work at high frequencies – The nominal frequency of a sensor is decreased by the
adsorption of foreign molecules on its active surface – The Sensor Matrix can operate in:
• Gas / particle phase (e.g. surface swipe) • Vapor phase (e.g. non-contact sample analysis) • Liquid solutions (e.g. inside fluids)
Selective Coatings Deposition Technologies – Existing bank of specially developed chemical coatings can be
applied on the active surface of the sensors – The two methods for applying selective coatings are:
• Polymerization in ultra-thin films • Formation of Self-Assembled Monolayers (SAMs)
Operational & Field Usability
‒ Highly reliable “Plug & Play” Sensor Arrays ‒ High probability of detection – P(d) ‒ Low probability of false alarm rate – P(fa) ‒ Resistance to humidity ‒ Immune to changes in barometric pressure ‒ High operational throughput

The Solution: Novel Sensor Technologies

Collected sample enters the “sensors chamber” and is then heated by internal heating units. The trace collected turns to vapors and is absorbed on the active surface of the selective coatings. The changes in mass affect the resonating frequency of the sensors and create a repeatable pattern, which can be detected, analyzed and identified.

Evolving Threats Are Leading to Tighter Screening & Inspection
© 2019 MS Tech: Proprietary Data | 10
The Screening Industry Challenges
Limited Detection Capabilities – Critical needs to detect home-made explosives – Slow adaption and response to new threats – Need for multi-threat capabilities (“one-stop shop”) – Stand alone technologies – High false alarm rates
High Cost of Screening
– High-cost of personnel – Costly infrastructure – Cost of ownership (price & service/maintenance) – Cost of consumables
Low Passenger Throughput
– Long queues – Cumbersome screening processes – Random selection
Public Pressure – Millimeter wave technologies have bad public image – Travelers refuse/avoid enter MMW portals – Radiation exposure publicly debated – TSA facing lawsuits and ongoing criticism by Congress
