But time after time, the thoughts come into focus; the feelings of appreciation for our members and gratitude for their talents and efforts all come to the surface to be formed into words and phrases. The inspiration I derive from considering the goals and aims of our fraternity, the contributions our chapter has made to increase children’s exposure to fine music, the presentation of excellent music to our community, the varied and interesting programs we enjoy at our chapter meetings all these provide so many reasons for commentary. And so the words come forth and voilá, with what seems like so little effort, over a page is filled with gratitude for what has recently occurred and happy expectation of what is soon to come. And so it continues……. A beautiful balmy evening, a gorgeous park setting and a lovely spacious home provided the scene for our September Potluck. NEWSLETTER President’s Message

Each month as I gather my thoughts about what

to communicate in my newsletter message, I am

convinced this time the message will be rather

brief. But time after time, the thoughts come into

focus; the feelings of appreciation for our

members and gratitude for their talents and

efforts all come to the surface to be formed into

words and phrases. The inspiration I derive from

considering the goals and aims of our fraternity,

the contributions our chapter has made to

increase children’s exposure to fine music, the

presentation of excellent music to our

community, the varied and interesting programs

we enjoy at our chapter meetings – all these

provide so many reasons for commentary. And

so the words come forth and voilá, with what

seems like so little effort, over a page is filled

with gratitude for what has recently occurred and

happy expectation of what is soon to come. And

    so it continues…….

A beautiful balmy evening, a gorgeous park

setting and a lovely spacious home provided the

scene for our September Potluck. Our many

thanks to Beth and Brent Howell for providing

their home and welcoming us with their gracious

hospitality. Gail Mellert, Linnea Eades and

Shirley Yamamoto did all the arranging and

organizing of your delicious contributions to the

dinner. Isabella Ma performed magnificently on

Beth’s almost antique Steinway, providing tone

and resonance so characteristic of the Liszt and

    Kreisler/Rachmaninoff selections she chose.

At the meeting Debra Shrader arrived with our

yearbooks that she had heroically just completed.

But to her shock and great disappointment, it was

soon realized a page, which actually meant four

pages, was missing, due to an error by the printer.

    President’s message cont.

Since there was no easy, convenient way to supply

this missing information, we hoped the printer would

re-do the order at no expense to us. Thankfully, that

was the case and we now have complete yearbooks

for everyone. Thank you, Debra, for your

    additional efforts!

Please plan to attend our October meeting which

will include our Founders Day Ceremony and

observance. This is always a very special meeting

and gives us all the opportunity to think about Mu

Phi and appreciate again its noble purpose and

importance in our lives. In addition, we will be

honoring our members who have enjoyed more than

50 years as Mu Phi’s. The meeting is very soon, this

Saturday, October 20 at Pat Arand’s, from 4 to

6:00 pm. Because we are striving to increase our

membership, both by inviting new people to join and

by encouraging un-affiliates to become active, please

plan to invite a prospective new member or

unaffiliate. Just inform Pat or one of our hostesses,

    Nancy Carr or Joanne Satterburg.

November 10 is a date you will certainly not want to

miss – our District Conference at CSUDH. You

have been receiving information about this important

event over the course of the past several months.

Ruth Cuccia and the planning committee have been

working for almost a year to present a day of

    inspiration, education, fellowship and music.

Enclosed is a registration form and flyer with more

details. We are extremely honored that our

    International President, Rosemary Ames has

agreed to come all the way from Massachusetts and

    our International Executive Secretary/Treasurer,

Gloria Debatin, will come down from her office in

Fresno. Also, some of our own members will be

featured either as performers or presenters, including

our brand new member, Peter Schueller. If you

cannot stay for the entire day, please plan to attend at

least the morning or afternoon session. This is a

conference you don’t want to miss!!

    Lovingly yours in Mu Phi,

    Darlene
