Municipal Strategic Energy Planning Official Announcement March 24, 2015 Strategic Planning Funding Opportunity The East Bay Energy Watch (EBEW) is funding Strategic Energy Planning for East Bay cities. Our program team will work hand-in-hand with municipalities to plan, organize, and take action on municipal energy needs and interests. What is Strategic Energy Planning? A Strategic Energy Plan (SEP) is a long-term blueprint to guide cities to a desired energy vision. It articulates goals, strategies, actions, and allocates resources to move cities toward a more sustainable energy future. Benefits The implementation of an SEP provides many benefits for communities: Energy use reduction and the resulting cost savings Creation of local jobs and public funds staying in the community Reduction of GHG emissions to mitigate local and global Climate Change impacts Eligibility EBEW will serve any municipality that is interested in strategic energy planning for 2015. Cities must be located within Alameda or Contra Costa Counties. Participating cities are expected to commit a defined amount of staff time to working with our strategic planning team. Outcome This initiative will produce a Strategic Energy Planning template tailored to the needs, interests and challenges facing East Bay cities. The experiences and results of this process at each municipality will be incorporated into a final SEP template that will be available to all EBEW-member municipalities at no cost. Limited Time Opportunity EBEW’s Strategic Advisory Committee has approved funding for this initiative through December 2015. Interested municipalities are strongly encouraged to submit a letter of interest to [email protected] no later than April 10, 2015. High-Impact Strategic Planning Team Strategic planning is the first step toward realizing your goals, and our team is ready to help. EBEW has assembled a team of highly experienced strategic planners and engineers to work hand-in-hand with cities to support each city’s visioning and goal-setting process at no cost. The team includes expert staff from Newcomb Anderson McCormick, QuEST (MIT) and EBEW. What We Need From You 1. A designated individual to serve on our Steering Committee for this project. 2. Identify stakeholders within your city and establish a Planning Committee that will tailor the Strategic Energy Plan template to your cities needs. 3. Implement the planning process steps as outlined in the Strategic Energy Plan template. 4. Publish a draft Strategic Energy Plan based on the process employed using the SEP template.
