Welcome to the Newsletter. Good to see that the hot weather has not deterred members from using the Club facilities both internal and external. Field sizes appear to be increasing as is use of the cool conditions in the Club. Major works continue with ;

The new deck construction all but there, if not for some minor material supply issues we would have been very close to operational but good things come to those who wait.

It has been impressive to watch the guys working away in the heat to provide from what I can see a facility that will exceed our original expectations. We have been very fortunate to be able to employ local tradesman who are members and patrons of the Club with the quality of work being completed reflecting their pride in the work. After all we are local we support local.

Work on the 9th cart path has been completed as has the bunker replacement giving us

safer access to the green and an improved appearance the hole in the process, 8

th green is sprouting grass everywhere and all is looking well for reopening as per

schedule. Hole 8a has proven successful with many favourable comments from mem-bers and visitors alike. It's implementation has created very little interruption to the flow and quality of play.

Graeme Trew is back in action at the driving range and appearances are that activities on the range have picked up again. There are a number of options available there and I would suggest you take the time to talk with Graeme regarding assistance with your game. Also, the Hot Wok and Grill continues to impress with great dining from a varied menu that will meet the requirements of quality and value The course is your course so….. pitch marks, raking bunkers, avoiding high traffic areas around greens and tees by staying on designated paths and following signage around greens when driv-ing a cart are all our/your responsibility. Unfortunately “monkey see monkey do” and if one cart breaks the rules others follow and before you know it your chipping off dirt not grass. I almost feel I should apologise for having placed the concrete path on the first hole 2 meters too far to the left preventing carts from driving on it, he says with tongue in cheek. With the newsletter I try to leave my report until after the monthly Board meeting but this month is a short month with a late meeting does not allow, next month should be back to normal or as nor-mal as it can get.

Friday night’s Number One Membership Draw continues to build with the second consolation draw available to those who stay a lit-tle linger.. You must be there with a current member card in hand to have a chance to win. At all times be safe when driving home, have a plan B, the cour-tesy bus is available on given days to be used by patrons. Please use it and be safe to yourself and those around you. Anyway, good health and good golfing. See you at the Club. Chairman Keith O’Grady

Golf Shop Report Firstly, it is great to be back at work after my holidays, I am refreshed and recharged for the busy year ahead. I would also like to thank and congratulate Brad and the boys for running the golf shop effectively and efficiently in my absence. I received nothing but positive comments about them on my return. The first major event of the year is the Men’s Foursomes Championships which will be held on Sunday 4th March and once again will be a 27 hole event. Times are available in the golf shop while cart bookings will be essential. The next scheduled Titleist fitting day will be held on Tuesday 20th March from 9am-1pm. Fitting sessions will be available by appointment whilst all Titleist products will be on site to trial. The event also coincides with the launch of the new Titleist Vokey SM7 wedges. If you are in the market for a new set of irons or just looking to update your driver or wedges be sure to attend this event. Nominations for the Earle Williams 4bbb match play will open on Saturday 17th March and close on Satur-day 31st March. A fee of $10 per player will be required upon nomination and a draw will be completed once all competitors have been entered. If you haven’t organised a partner already there is still time to be part of this exciting competition. A new range of men’s and ladies apparel has arrived including premium brands Oakley and Cutter & Buck. Make sure you check out the exciting new designs next time you are in the golf shop.

See you in the shop, Adam Causley

The Club knows when it’s doing things right…..

HAPPY PEOPLE HAPPY FAMILIES GOOD CHEER

PITCHING Most golfers either struggle to judge distance, or miss hit small lofted shots poorly. There are several systems on how to hit pitch shots. THE ONE I USE IS REALLY QUITE SIMPLE. 1. Start without a club and get your golf posture. Now lets take a very small swing where by your hands swing just passed your right knee and finish just past your left knee to finish. 2. Next we go from hip to hip, chest to chest, shoulder to shoulder and head to head. 3.Now rehearse these length swings with a lob wedge or a sand wedge. 4.You need to have a consistent rhythm to become consistent.

5.Time to add a ball and to work out how far the ball will travel in the air with each different swing. Get to the range and practice this shot as you could shave many shots from your score!

JOKE - WHAT WOULD YOU CHOOSE...PARKINSONS OR ALZHEIMERS???

An old man was asked, "At your ripe age, what would you prefer to get...... Park-insons or Alzheimers?" The wise man answered, "Definately Parkinsons..... better to spill half my wine than to forget where I keep the bottle.....!!!!!

OUR VERY SENIOR MEMBERS - Cath Blissett I started playing golf when I was 19 due to my mother and fa-ther's influence as they were both members of Marrickville Golf Club so I became a Junior Member. Then I got married. Did not play again until 1971 when we were in Malaysia.1974 saw me in Melbourne where I played many of the courses.1978 we moved to the Blue Mountains where I joined Penrith Golf Club. Finally, we moved to Uki and I joined Murwillumbah Golf Club in April, 1980. In 1981, I became Vice Captain and for about 34 years served on the Murwillumbah and Northern Rivers Committees. In that time I have seen many changes both to the course and clubhouse. I can remem-ber.....Lovers Lane; now part of the Pump House hole. Glad and Laurie Jenkins looking after the food. Played a lot of courses but Murwillumbah is the most beautiful........have been a member for 37 years

Brian Harbison The well known golfer, Jack Newton, once said " Murwillumbah Golf Club is one of the hidden gems. HOW TRUE!!! Every time you turn around there is something new under way to improve the course and club. I am proud to be a member. My family which includes...son, father, mother and grandfather have been all keen members of this club.

Good Melodic Live Music

All about Beer! FIRST YOU TAKE A DRINK, THEN THE DRINK TAKES A DRINK, THEN THE DRINK....TAKES YOU Beer is the third most popular beverage in the world, coming in behind tea and water. Monks brewing beer in the Middle Ages were allowed to drink five quarts of beer a day. One the rea-sons the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620, rather than sail further south to a warmer climate was that their supplies were dwindling, ‘ESPECIALLY OUR BEER’… Bavaria still defines beer as a staple food. The oldest known written recipe is for beer. In English pubs, ale is ordered by pints and quarts. So in old England, when customers got unruly, the Bartender used to yell at them to mind their own Pints and quarts and settle down. This is where we got “mind your Ps and Qs” BUT… A BOTTLE OF WINE CONTAINS MORE PHILOSOPHY THAN ALL THE BOOKS IN THE WORLD. LOUIS PASTEUR
