Music videos were created in order to let the artists be more creative with their music and allow the fans to understand the song lyrics and involve themselves in the music more.

The first pop video to be created was ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen released in 1975. It was known as a promotional video, after the creation of this one it became common for songs to be followed with promotional videos after release.

Top Of The Pops on BBC was where music videos first started to be shown, nowadays there are many music channels since the dimense of Top Of The Pops. MTV is a popular music channel that shows pop music videos.

“MTV was originally designed to be a rock

Michael Jackson was the first Black artist to have their music video aired on MTV. His ‘Billie Jean’ was a success and paved the way for more Black artists in the future.

In the 1980s, Black American artists such as Whitney Houston and Prince, dominated the music industry – allowing R&B music to become more popular – this meant that MTV was no longer dominated by Rock music anymore
