PROJECT COORDINATOR FOR COMMUNITY HERITAGE PROJECT “BRINGING JAMDANI to ENGLAND” The Muslin Trust would like to appoint a Freelance Consultant to work as Project Coordinator on a new 18 month long project funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund. “Bringing Jamdani to England” will undertake oral histories of older members of the Bangladeshi community in Merton about their relationship with Jamdani, a handwoven fine cotton sari from present day Bangladesh" The post is part time (2.5 days per week) over 18 months working on a freelance basis. Remuneration will be £23,500 over the 18 months. The Project Coordinator will be responsible for the following tasks: Recruitment and management of 10 community volunteers who will learn heritagebased skills and training (in oral history, film recording, transcribing, photography) and produce outputs for the project Recruitment and management of 24 older BritishBangladeshi (or Bangladeshi) women from Merton to be interviewed by the community volunteers. Some of these women have already agreed to participate Organise educational trips to museums and the British Library to investigate the history of Jamdani in the UK Oversee the production of a video documentary and project booklet Manage, design and build content for a month long public exhibition in Merton Manage the archive and digitization of the oral histories online Manage all outreach and marketing aspects for the project The Project Coordinator will be managed by the Chair of the Muslin Trust and will report to the Muslin Trust’s Steering Group The post would suit a graduate with experience of managing community projects; an understanding or appreciation of South Asian heritage fabrics would be an advantage. Ability to work on your own will be essential. Experience of having managed a National Lottery funded project would be an advantage.
