Someone once wrote:

“A woman doesn’t want an abortion like she wants an ice cream cone or a Porsche; she wants an abortion like a bear caught in a trap wants to gnaw its own leg off to get away.”

That analogy has stuck with me all these years as I see women viewing their unborn children as something to escape from, not someone to love. Fear of the future, of the child’s father, or even of her own parenting abilities can trigger a self-preservation response -- no matter the cost!

In an effort to counter these fear-based responses, MWC staff and volunteers provided nearly 900 hours of life-affi rming aid to 170 individuals. The results? Fourteen women chose life for their babies, 12 women put their trust in Jesus, four women chose adoption, and spiritual, practical, and fi nancial aid were provided. In short, love and hope trumped fear and panic, and nobody had to perish!

As we enter our 23rd year of educating the community about life-affi rming alternatives, we are pleased to announce the expansion of our life-affi rming care for pregnant women. The opening of the Amazing Grace Home – a residential home for four pregnant, adult, women – is the culmination of nine years of prayer and planning that involved more than 160 individuals, churches, and community partners. We are excited to welcome Keith and Meredith Henderson to our team as live-in house parents. Please pray for them as they serve the women in the home.

Thank you for providing the prayer, fi nances, practical and volunteer support for this life-affi rming work. As you page through this annual report, our prayer is that you will be encouraged and inspired by the impact our services have on lives physically and spiritually for the glory of God.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear.” – Psalm 46:1-2a

A Message from Metro Women’s

Center Staff

Mission Statement Metro Women’s Center strives to educate the community about pregnancy alternatives so that informed decisions concerning the outcome of pregnancy can be made. Metro Women’s Center places value upon all human life from conception onward. An abortion ends a life prematurely and unnaturally. Metro Women’s Center offers a compassionate Christian response to the needs of individuals confronted with challenging pregnancy situations.

Vision Statement By the grace of God, we desire to encourage believers to act positively on their convictions and to step forward to assist individuals with challenging pregnancy situations through our outreach. We desire to see men and women brought to a knowledge that life within the womb is God’s creative work, and we strive to share the Gospel with all who will hear.

Prior to receiving a pregnancy test at MWC, 31 women stated that they were abortion-minded or undecided about carrying a pregnancy to term. Out of those 31 women, 13 had positive pregnancy tests. After considering their options and visiting with an MWC advisor, 11 of those women chose life for their children! Prior to visiting MWC, 25 women had experienced 35 prior abortions.

Telephone Contacts In conversations with women over the telephone, three babies were spared from abortion, while 15 other callers were not willing to change their minds about having an abortion.

Amazing Grace Home – A Place of Love and Grace The Amazing Grace Home (AGH) was purchased in November 2011 for $158,000 cash. During this past year is has been lovingly updated to serve the needs of four pregnant women over the age of 18. The AGH project was managed by Diane Eliason for under $25,000 in renovation costs. More than 160 individuals, businesses, churches, and community groups partnered with us to accomplish this goal.House parents Keith and Meredith Henderson have been hired to live on-site to oversee the home and to provide the residents with a safe, Christ-centered environment in which to live. Each resident’s basic needs such as food and shelter will be provided. Opportunities for spiritual growth, life skills training and decision-making about parenting or creating an adoption plan for her child will be available to each resident. By providing this supportive environment, our hope is that each resident will begin equipping herself to manage her current situation, and to plan for her future, whether choosing parenting or adoption for her baby.

On-Going Operating Costs Operating costs of expanding our care for pregnant women will increase MWC’s budget by $45,000 each year. We invite you to invest in this exciting extension of our life-affi rming work. To donate, please send your contribution to MWC’s main offi ce address listed on the back of this booklet. For more information on this project, please e-mail [email protected] or contact the offi ce at 763-533-8642.

Advisor didn’t bring me down but encouraged me.

Advisor was respectful and gave good resources, very professional.

Earning stuff for baby while learning.

Encouraged me think about God and my relationship with Him.

Enjoyed talking to someone without feeling judged.

Everyone was friendly and polite; I got fast service and free pregnancy test.

Felt respected and understood; great pregnancy information.

Helped me choose life for my baby.

I learned that God can forgive me.

I like that they provide Bible study; that is a very good thing.

I was comfortable to open up; the lady was easy to talk to.

My advisor listened well, was respectful, and concerned about me.

Not being judged and having the freedom and being able to speak.

Positive attitude, very encouraging, yet straight to the point.

She gave me a lot of advice about choosing not to be sexually active.

Talked to me about my options and services that could help me.

The receptionist was very nice and welcoming. She made me feel at ease.

The support they give to help women.

They are helpful but should focus less on beliefs when in discussion.

They asked me questions concerning my options and beliefs.

They care and don’t judge and try to guide in the right ways.

Material & Financial AidMetro Women’s Center provides referrals for free educational ultrasounds for women who are undecided or abortion-determined about their pregnancies. An ultrasound helps the mother see her unborn child’s movements in her womb and hear her baby’s heartbeat. This is a life-affi rming experience for an abortion-minded woman. Four women accessed free ultrasounds through the Center this year and all chose life!
