Mycotoxin Screening Services
The ISU VDL Toxicology Section is now offering a new rapid screening test for analyzing feed or
grain for mycotoxins.
Due to recent weather conditons, this year’s corn harvest may be at greater risk of my-cotoxins forming. Prevalence and concentra-
tion of mycotoxins in grain can be sporadic and vary annually, even in the same location.
Mycotoxins are potentially toxic to humans and animals; therefore, detection is impor-tant.
A few of the mycotoxins known to occur in Iowa are aflatoxin, fumonisin, vomitoxin (DON) zearale-none, and infrequently, ochratoxin and T-2.
Contact Drs. Steve Ensley ([email protected]) or Paula Imerman ([email protected]) at the ISU VDL 515-294-1950 with ques-tions or for more information.
